This is definitely the biggest thing holding Mel back, I'd rate her as an average to above average racer but she has never bothered to figure out the items and how/when to use them. It is beyond frustrating watching her squat on 2 items and pointlessly hit an item block. One of her races where she got beat at the fashion line she had 2 mushroom boosts that she neglected to use. She self-sabotages herself by putting in minimal effort in preparation for the event.

Ironically she WAS using the meta for the past couple years, during offstream practice she decided to switch things up at the 11th hour and go to Princess Peach and a different cart. Still learning and feeling out the racer and not following meta just added onto her many other issues.
