My rrat is that it’s much simpler than people think: Idol Corp was probably able to raise way more money than other small corpos. I think it’s an Israeli company that managed to get it right because Israel is one of the few countries with a big start-up scene that isn’t America. In America, not that many people will invest in vtubing because people think of it as that foreign weeb shit. In most other places, American and Japanese cartoons are equally foreign, so I think there’s fewer raised eyebrows if you pitch anime girl streamers to a room of investors.
It would explain how the company managed to survive for six months after the disastrous debut of its first gen, and it might mean that other small corpos don’t do this sort of thing because they can’t afford to.
How much do you want to bet that Fishman had to repeatedly tell investors that no, you can’t just use western cartoons as avatars instead and that it has to be anime.

In Phase Connect, Lumi got a redesign from a new artist partially because her old artist basically dropped off the face of the earth (also, that design was from back when she was in Cyberlive, so it was getting kind of dated).
The new artist was Veibae’s artist, which was…unfortunate. I mean, I’ll probably get used to it (I really wish she’d soften the eyes a bit, though). But for now, well, thank god I started watching Lumi for her personality.
