The point is that audiences do not convert so easily. He doesn't need everyone to follow him, but he needs enough of his audience to follow him for each successive endeavor to be viable. How many genuinely good artists of some form or another (or hell, even porn stars) try to jump to another medium and bomb? Money and fans don't automatically make it work.

A couple of reasons. People suck in their paunch when they have photos taken. The assumption is that he's sucking in for the photo which means when he's rested his belt buckle will be holding on for dear life. Also you can tell the belt is slightly angled out from the top which is classic signs of belt getting stretched out. But the most damning is his reaction to it all. The fact he even responded seriously means his ego was bruised i.e. he's insecure about his weight meaning he's fat or at minimum thinks he is fat.
