YES!!! This is what makes me confused. Looking up what these regions mean with the Köppen climate classification, Hagu would be Dfa and Dfc mostly.
First, why is there no Dfb??? From the looks of it, no Dfa actually goes directly into a Dfc, there is a whole climate skipped!!!
Second, why even are we this??? From the description given, these climates only exist in the northern hemisphere, but we are in the south, should we not fall under an arid, semi-arid, mediterranean or humid subtropical climate if we go by that system? Or is this a different system?

>>38845250
Alright, so two disclaimers to start! The world map is a rough representation of the climates, so some climates that are basically a transition zone between two other climates instead of really markedly different were folded into other climates. So yes, there is probably a band of Dfb between the Dfa and Dfc regions of /hag/. This could be represented in a more detailed climate map, the simplification above was mainly to protect climateanon's sanity somewhat.
^ this is my understanding and loose recollection, correct me if I'm wrong.
Second, these climates only exist in the north hemisphere in the real Earth, but Vitubia is distributed differently. Our south hemisphere land masses are much closer to the poles compared to australia or the southern parts of South America and Africa. So stuff like Dfb/Dfc climates can happen in Vitubia's South hemisphere.
Latitude and ocean currents are much more important than whether the country is in the south or north hemisphere.
Does that help? I can explain more.

Oh, something new people might miss is that climate isn't everything. Biome is probably even more important and depends on a lot of factors, and there isn't a world biome map because that would need to take hydrography, biosphere and even sometimes geology into account, and would generally make whoever is making that map insane.

I'm not really one of the big climatefags, so you'd want them to take a look (there's a few). But for variety, I think you'd probably have some highland climate on the West near the Uoh plateau, and the plateau also creates a rain shadow resulting in a semi-arid climate in the south-west. Not sure that would be Csb iun the middle there, not sure what color that is actually.
>>38846779
>>38847018
Ah, context. Some time back, a new system was instated to make it easier for new threads to select their land. This opened up unused land for use by new generals. But, since the /hag/ land wasn't selected by a new nation, you can just use the land from the first layout. Or you can place yourself elsewhere, if you want! Up to you.

>> No.38847398

>>38847018
Nope, gone, reduced to atoms. With the province system, as /hag/ did not have a rep or any lore at the time, it didn't qualify to stay on the map. This was done in order to free up space for future splits, as at the time we went through quite a timeloop regarding the placement of a few new nations that weren't previously on the map.
Now with this system, you have the option of either keeping your old borders, as 3 said, or selecting a completely new area for /hag/(and preferably providing some reason for it, but it's not necessary) and then we put it up to vote just so it's official and stuff, and you're done!

Hello and welcome to /vtwbg/!
Regarding /hag/'s climate classification, it should be noted that the coloured map has a somewhat erroneous legend - if you check the colour blind-friendly version which was what I made a while ago, you can see that the Dfa zone is actually meant to represent the humid continental climates, which include both Dfa and Dfb. In practice, you can probably assume somewhere between a third to half of the humid continental zone in /hag/ to be Dfa, with the rest being Dfb.
As for /hag/'s climate in general, the thing is that you are in the southern hemisphere, which means that the further south you go, the colder the weather is because it is closer to the south pole. As such, the warmest part of /hag/ is in the north, hence its humid subtropical north compared with the more continental south.
As mentioned by >>38845633, on Earth, the continental climates are pretty much confined to the northern hemisphere, but the lack of continental climates in the southern hemisphere is mostly because of the lack of continents in the southern hemisphere rather than anything intrinsic to the north-south distinction. Since the continents are distributed more evenly in Vitubia, the southern hemisphere has its fair share of continental climates here as well.

>>38848104
The alpine tundra's extent is due to a combination of its high latitude of the /uoh/ highland and the katabatic wind it generates - basically, its huge ice sheet forms a semi-permanent high-pressure zone that constantly pushes out cold wind into the surrounding lowland. While the nearby ocean and its currents can counteract the effect to a degree, the surrounding highlands are still cooled enough to be considered alpine tundra. It does not really have an Earth analogue because there are no such large ice sheets that close to the Equator - the closest we have are the Greenlandic and Antarctic coast, but those places would be freezing even without the effect of the ice sheet.

Beautiful descriptions, I especially love the descriptions of Rei approaching the ritual and using the support of her sisters as a source of strength, and also when she's put under, very nice! Somewhat - the biome will be affected, particularly in the area adjacent to the humid subtropical climate. The colder weather would lead to it being dominated by conifers instead of broadleaves, but climate-wise it is probably not distinct enough to have a place on a zoomed-out map.

>>38850144
I don't know how cold you expected /hag/ to be, but the katabatic wind would only be dominant along your border with /uoh/. The rest of /hag/, as suggested by the climate, would be relatively mild by definition:
>humid subtropical (Cfa)
Warmest month above 22°C (doesn't really matter that much), and coldest month above 0°C. Snow is uncommon but not unheard of.
>humid continental (Dfa/Dfb)
At least 4 months above 10°C (a and b is differentiated by whether the warmest month is above 22°C), and coldest month below 0°C. Snow is expected every year.
>subarctic (Dfc)
No more than 3 months above 10°C, and coldest month below 0°C. Snow is common outside the relatively short summer.
>tundra (ET)
Warmest month below 10°C. Snow is present most of the time (although in the region bordering /uoh/, the dry wind might be too dry to form snow) with brief summer. Also known as moorland.
>cold semi-arid
Coldest month below 0°C, but usually too dry to experience regular snow.
Overall, you can probably expect winter snow to be fairly common in at least half of your country, but the winter is usually not too cold for human life, although the southernmost part of the country will likely have to rely on hunting and fishing for food due to the short growing season for most Earth crops.

The majority of /hag/ would be warmer than /vnug/ on average (outside the subarctic and tundra regions), but the temperature range should be fairly similar as far as the D climate zones are concerned - you just spend more time in the warmer part of the range than /vnug/.
I should also add that you can expect some variety of biomes depending on what you want. Subarctic climate and the wetter part of the tundra-subtropical border will be primarily conifer forests, while subtropic climate is usually dominated by broadleaf forests. For humid continental, it can be anything from a mixed forest (of broadleaf and conifer trees) or a mix of that and grassland. While some continental climate naturally has grassland (see the Pontic steppe or the Great Plains), it can also be created by mass deforestation since both humid subtropical and humid continental climates are fairly decent in terms of farming weather-wise. It is ultimately up to your people to decide how much of the forest should become grassland (either for husbandry heh or farming - most RL crops are some kind of grass, after all).

For clarification, the ritual is the graduation of trainees into fully-fledged shrine maidens, traditionally undertaken at age 14 (for reasons, Rei is taking the trial for the second time at 15). "Classes" of girls are brought before the Shitomo in the ritual hall, inundated (drugged)), then undressed and placed in ceremonial coffins that are carried out to scattered, deep parts of The Underworld along with the white ritual robes, their mask, and a weapon. Their objective is to slay one of the Lost (which, in the most extreme cases, have not only gone completely feral but also been grotesquely transformed by chuubanite) and find their way back. If they pass, they can assume the full duties of a shrine maiden and be moved into their new accommodations on the temple campus. I didn't really envision the black robes to be in use by anyone except the most senior shrine maidens or the administrative/elite body of the Faithful

It has always meant to be more a suggestion than anything concrete, but I guess the act of making the map itself makes disagreement on what kind of climate is "natural" inevitable. Maybe that is why everything just feels so pointless to me. Ultimately the point of this project is for everyone to have fun, so at the end of the day, one's preference is always going to trump whatever map we come up with when it comes to climate and biome. I do think that at least in theory, the province system will also aid in how anons that want to place their thread in the world map will have less of a need to change their own weather, but it's not like I can predict how people will act. Anyways, if leaving the world as it is would be the best way to avoid overwork, then yeah, that's probably the best option, especially if anyone that comes in would just decide not dealing with it.

Mt. Mori is fairly small on the map, and the supernatural temperature change is confined to a circle with a radius (or is it diameter? doesn't really matter either way) of 500km. Its existence nonetheless affects pretty much the whole island. That should be a good indication of what would happen to a good chunk of a continent if a country got its entire climate zone changed.

>>38858826
No, all things considered, /risu/'s climate change is fairly minor as frustrating as I might seem at it. Ultimately I fail to see the point of forcing people to conform to a global climate system even if it is 100% accurate (which I know mine is not) so I am not advocating that people need to revise that, no matter how severe the logical aftermath would be.

>>38859078
>that would leave us with a world that makes sense
It won't. That is the core of the issue. I can list out all the inconsistencies we already have, and what kinds of scenario will more inconsistencies happen even with the province system, but I reckon that is only going to cause even more timeloop and frustration. The bottom line is, I just do not see the point of putting this issue to vote if there is only one option that is acceptable, or making new climate maps when they are only going to be mild suggestions where additional accuracy would not matter.

By the way, if you're interested in giving feedback, I'm curious what you thought of the characterization in this piece. Obviously I have my own (mostly) comprehensive thoughts on what their personality and relationships with one another are and stuff, but I deliberately made them really vague because I like writing intrigue, but hopefully still with just enough info to infer your own conclusions. I'm wondering if that intent came across how I wanted.

I'd be happy to! Rei fits into a classic heroine archetype. She's a girl who has feelings of inadequacy, of not being enough, but those feelings motivate her to do more, perhaps if her friends can push her out of bouts of crippling self-doubt. If she can fully mobilize herself, she can be a very determined person.
Saya is the classic mentor figure, instead of passing down a sword to the hero, she passes down a Mask to Rei. Well, maybe she passed down the sword too, but I gathered that was part of the standard equipment, while the mask has Saya's personal touch. Do all neophytes have a mentor like this? That would be a good feature to have in this type of organization.
My interpretation is that Maya is Rei's equal, and will probably undergo the same ritual at the same time? She's Rei's rock, maybe the girl that convinced her to attempt the challenge a second time.

Rei's relationship with Saya is a little unique, but it's common for younger shrine maidens and trainees to seek guidance from their seniors. It's very much a sorority on that side of the temple grounds. A pious, stabby sorority.
Saya is a Holy Ghost and member of the Shitomo, so it's not like she's familiar with Rei on the level like it would be for two girls just a couple years apart, but she is a mentor and sort of surrogate older sister-type, yeah. Rei's a nervous wreck of a girl who despite her faith and competence is wracked with schizo shit like actual dangerous schizo shit, so Saya is specially protective of her. You pegged Maya right. She's Rei's roommate and only friend.

I have no opinion either way, but we have to remember that most of the nations that "messed" with their climate came in before the system was in place. One of the unfortunate truths of how things were was that some nations got priority in their placement, so climate was hardly a factor for them.

For me particularly, as long as a chuuba is /here/, even if they are subtle about it, you guys are allowed to use divinity as part of your lore.
Risu here-baiting is enough justification for /risu/ having magical trees.
/pyon/ is already /here/ enough to do whatever they want.
As long as your implementation of divinity is through effort. Not intervention.
For example, Risuners constant planting of trees to revitalise the land.
/mep/ could employ something similar where it was Reine's instructions and magic that helped you guys irrigate and fertilise the land until it's no longer a desert. Over the course of generations that is. Use a chuuba's /here/ divinity as a catalyst.
Don't feel bad about it, /mep/bro. Just shift your attention elsewhere and let the idea cook over time.

I have a note about biomes. The biomes depend on a variety of factors from soil nutrition to acidity of soil to other sediments underneath soil that forms aquifers. If your soil is over-saturated with water then you're going to get a wetland or swamp. If your soil drains through sediment, trees, or evaporates quickly enough then that affects biomes too. Forests further away from the equator are often old growth forests as the climax environment. Desertfication can also happen when the soil nutrients run dry or over irrigation ruins the water table. The Great Plains went through the dust bowl for example.
