Superchats are probably less than 50% of their earnings.
Iofi gets about $60 of superchats per stream, with only 5 streams a month. But over a year ago had about 800 members (she mentioned it in one of the streams), which means she gets roughly $4000 monthly. Probably less, because of the way Youtube calculates membership prices.
Some autist calculated that Gura had about 27000 members in early 2021 by adding up greennames in her chat. So I'm convinced memberships and merch are the main source of income for Holos.

Youtube is collecting the superchat money, they definitely are taking their cut prior to income. For if Cover's cut is an expense or not it depends on how their agreement is structured.
Most likely Cover owns the channel so they receive the check from youtube and then distribute funds to the streamer. In which case cover's portion would be taxed at their level but the streamer would only pay taxes on their cut.
Or less likely the streamer owns the channel and gets paid out by youtube, then has to cut a check to cover for their portion. That is very unlikely, but in that scenario then yes the streamer would have income of the SC after youtube's cut and they would deduct the payment to cover as an expense.
In addition to SC and memberships I assume they are also printing cash on merch drops.

Keep in mind she hasn't moved from her current place in years and she says she won't. Compare that to other holomems who move around many times a year. Also her mom is to some degree in charge of her money.
She's just an otaku country girl who loves being an idol and streaming. Money sometimes change people but there are also people who just stay living the same way even after getting a ton of money.

I have a serious question, how do you think she should have handled it? Join VShojo and then never say anything about it and pretend it didn't happen? Stream normally and just say "oh yea I joined Vshojo" and then move on without elaborating a little bit? She made a major career move and did a 1 hour Q&A with questions she collected from her fans. Kson said a lot of nice things about corporate vtubers. In particular she likes the comradery that comes with belonging to a group you can constantly interact with and support each other, as well as how helpful management can be. The first vtuber she collabed with was a corporate vtuber. She also never said she wouldn't join one, but she did imply that she would only be interested in one that didn't take full control of her and her content, which is what nearly all of them do. The subject came up a several times in her zatsudans and superchat readings but it was never really reported here so you are regurgitating a /vt/sisters narrative rather than her real opinions. There was actually one time where Kson was talking about company vtubers, and a shitty matome site quoted her out of context and made it seem like she was shit talking Hololive, and she flipped out on them and defended Cover. So not sure where you came up with this narrative. Actually I am sure, but the point is it's the opposite of her actual stance lol

For the first part, in her mind "company vtuber" means Hololive/Nijisanji/etc. where the company completely owns the rights to the character, and the "soul" is just an employee who works for them and can get fired at will, like Coco. And if you aren't in that system, you're an indie vtuber. So the point of that section was to explain that VShojo does not operate like those vtuber companies, and she is basically an indie. And she explained this with bad English because she does that often.

So basically you're acting as if a poorly translated slide is a "gotcha" that makes her a lying hypocrite, except she never actually said the thing you're accusing her of being hypocritical about. So it's weird and sad to see you guys still seething after 6 months.
