Which chuubas in your opinion feel the most like "real" anime characters? The ones that make you completely forget that there's a person behind an avatar and not just some twitch thot putting on a high pitched voice?
To add to this, I'm not a unicorn but I don't think I EVER saw a male Vtuber that gives off this vibe, that's why they ruin everything that they are a part of. They just act like literal retarded flesh streamers.

My hot take is that deep down, most people know how cringe and gay it is to keep to kayfabe without the language/cultural barrier to act as a buffer. Which is why even the better EN chubas often use a fair amount of irony to keep that fourth wall down a bit.
Try watching videos of western weeb girls at cons acting in character to test this theory.
TL,DR: Full on or high level kayfabe will ever only really work for JP chubas due to culture, maybe other Asian regions as well.

Speaking of JPstars, Kanade Izuru does great job at playing his character, which is A Young Man Who Plays Guitar.
I also like Roberu (The Bartender Who Talks A Lot) but my oshi will always be Oga (Smoothvoiced Demon Very Into Retro Games).
The simpler the character setup the more naturally it mixes in with person behind the avatar I think.

Definitely these two.
I couldn't pin down what it was when I finally watched one of their streams but upon some reflection is was just that: these two vtubers felt more "artificial", as in they really felt like animu come to life rather than a virtual anime persona of an actual living breathing person.
That's why they felt weird to me at first, but when I got it they became the most authentic vtubers I've ever seen.

Bro, I don't think she's playing a character though. She does so much weird shit off stream that she can't be considered to be playing a character. I remember her telling her viewers about a story of when a guy asked her out on a date so she said they should do karaoke, then she started singing random songs while they were still on the road side and then urged him to sing along so he started singing nervously. I'm assuming you're asking about the consistency and believability of their kayfabe. I rank them based on immersion, and whether they feel like they're putting on the mask, or genuinely the mask on their off hours.
