But it also meant vastly reduced exposure to the general public, which led to far fewer impulse buys from kids (the main demographic).
They got desperate and tried a whole bunch of sales gimmicks (and no it wasn't fucking "girl power"). Constant reboots and retcons, consistently relaunching titles, and variants galore have turned off the older collectors and confused the general public.
AND THEN, couple that shit with comics being seen as a perceived investment by big corpo, focusing on artificial inflation, and before they could see it wasn't the case, the market crashed.
