Naaa, I've been reading disc world recently and I kinda like the way that magic and spells are basically just sentient. Weird but understandable bullshit soft magic is very based, I know Risuners have their own kind of variant magic but I don't think we've ever really looked at if spells are a thing looking through alot of our magic quanta and chuubanite autism outside of the glyphs and rune discussion. Maybe that's because I've always kinda viewed chuubanite as crystal technology instead of magic despite it definitely not being limited to that.
Also, I don't want to pull too many ideas from /risu/ since /horni/'s economy is essentially just risuner nut economy except with representative currency through chuubanite bits but I think the idea of every nation having some form of traditional (aka less magitech based) magic that they have either forgotten or not discovered to be a very fun one. Industrial and Tech Revolution are whatever, Magic Evolution is where it's really at.

Really depends on your methodology I'd say. Some people like writing about their agriculture and geography first, and others like to do their culture and religion first. What aspect of your nation have you developed (both in your head, notes and have actually written down) the most? Start with those first and then work backwards, anons in the thread can help you.

I'm not very good at it either but the obvious way is to write down a sort of storyboard first, but most importantly the characters, since you can't write convincing stories without a convincing cast.

It's pretty casual, for starters just write down what sort of relationship you have with your neighbors or any other threads of interest. If your thread have some kind of blood feud with another one that's a continent away on Vitubia that would be reflected in the lore. Otherwise, just holler in the thread for any nation with an active writer if you have a plan or idea you want to do, or want to discuss what sort of relationship you would have with them.

Storyboards are more of an animation/film thing but the idea is that you plan the sequence of events that would happen in the course of the story so everything makes sense and doesn't feel disjointed. Again it's just one way of doing things.

So yeah, the monks are supposed to be weak to arrows and direct combat, but they never engage in that type of combat because they only take favorable combat (which is why they engage so much in guerrilla and defensive warfare)
Also its there to avoid inserting a goku/wuxia character in the world, so i avoided "energy projection" and shit like that in favor of peak human conditioning.
TLDR: i dont want kung fu wuxia gohan blanco characters running around so they only gank you and You cant parry a projectile

Oi catalognaut bros I've been reading that new mistborn book and got some things I wanted to ask nanora.
Deadbro, do Deadbeat Catalognauts have a diverse ability set, as in could their abilities vary or be reinterpreted in some ways or refined by certain skilled deadbeats and how available would you say they are to non-Moriji (if they're available at all) organizations that may be criminally aligned, maybe not openly criminal but shady. What freedoms or power do Catalognauts enjoy from Moriji and do those go away if one were to operate solo for a brief period?
I dont remember whether or not we've discussed chuubanite synthesis in Catalognauts but can it occur and how would you assume it works? If a Catalognaut carries chuubanite with a full charge could it refill their power or would it be an additional aid to draw from, I know Catalognauts are assumed to refill their magic quanta naturally but is there any way that one could quicken or add to the process or even perhaps overfill themselves with magic quanta as awkward as that sounds.
Also also, while this might sound odd, could a catalognaut synthesize with chuubanite or a chuubanitrophic substance that's in a state of instability or criticality? Say there was something that used magic quanta as a fuel source like that one schizo device I mentioned, could that be forcefully pushed onto a catalognaut?

In a general sense, since the catalognaut's power are essentially a flavor of "divine blessing", I think it's plausible for different catalognauts to have varying powers even if they have the same "patron deity". All catalognauts of a certain type might have access to the same powers; maybe some are better at some things than others; maybe each catalognaut has abilities that other catalognauts of the same type don't have. I think all three are valid.
I don't think catalognauts would "synthesize" chuubanite as such, as in, they wouldn't create new Vitubium particles. Mass synthesis is kind of a rabbithole. Rather, I think they can interface with the magic quanta (MQ) chuubanite can supply.
A way I've visualized it is that the cells of a catalognaut, and chuubanite can both draw MQ from the Heavenly Realm, and they can also store it. And if the MQ of a vitubium particle is used, instead of drawing another MQ from the Heavenly Realm, it can be replaced by an MQ drawn by the catalognaut.
So basically, the chuubanite artefacts of a catalognaut can be used to add an extra buffer storage of MQ available to them. And accordingly, if the catalognaut uses the MQ faster than they're replenished, logically the MQ drawn by the chuubanite would supplement that MQ generation (though that would deplete the chuubanite). Maybe I should draw a diagram to explain this...
I think unstable or critical chuubanite mostly works the exact same way, except its MQ output is erratic and possibly higher than is normal, so if the MQ "storage" of the catalognaut can be filled by chuubanite, doing it with critical chuubanite should be possible, if dangerous.
I think it might be easiest to see MQ as electrons drawn from the Vitium Field that distribute themselves wherever there are spaces available in either vitubium or catalognaut cells.
That's some of my thoughts on it, anyway, not anything agreed upon formally. If anyone has thoughts on this I'd like to hear them.

For Moriji in particular, that's hinted at in the last story, but the Goddess Faithful considers itself responsible for all catalognauts. Preferably, they'll be recruited and trained into useful assets, but if nothing else they're kept out of trouble. Skilled and trustworthy catalognauts may be lent to trusted organizations, like the Black Fleet. If trusted, those catalognauts are quite free and enjoy a high status, though they wouldn't be allowed to go off-the-grid. A deadbeat catalognaut who refuses to enter this system entirely would be considered a "rogue catalognaut", and be hunted down, captured, and rehabilitated or terminated. I'm sure there's a few of those running around in the world, especially if they escaped from Moriji.

So yes, depending on how easily the MQ can flow through the chuubanite-catalognaut system, chuubanite artefacts and catalognauts should be able to make use of one another's stored MQ.
The conscious question is a good one. If the catalognauts are to be able to use their magic abilities consciously (Like Xohildr's vines or Nathanata's cryomancy), then I guess they should be able to increase the activation of their MQ consciously, like activating your muscle to move your arm.
That would mean that there's a pathway which connects the catalognaut's neural system to the activation of the "catalognaut organ/particle/organelle" or whatever it is.

For /moon/ south eastern US seems to be on point. Though the climate would be less like Florida and more Louisiana where the Mississipi delta is. The rains would drain in the river's floodplain. That said the lands are also very flat which means the coasts will have bayous. Humid subtropical climates have heavy rains but not nearly as much as monsoons. You do have cold winters with frost but the year is wet all around.

Its not all swamplands. Fertile lands are possible but they require work. Only high humidity crops can thrive here. And you'll need drainage networks for flood season. Clear enough land to grow pastures and you'll have good room for cattle and horses. A wide variety of humid flowers and trees can grow here. In fact tobacco would grow really well here.

The northwest beach is dryer. So you can grow some more hardier plants like cactus and some tubers for trade. Northwest would make a better fishing spot with safer waters.

And the Mediterranean north can grow mediterranean crops. There's grapes and tomatoes but there's also wheat, rye, and other grains. Also based on your region you can look into what Asian crops you can grow.

Florida's a penninsula. So its surrounded by water. Which is why it has lots of wetlands. That's not to say Florida crops and magic mushrooms can't grow there. There's a bit more buffer between the bayou coastland and the middle. Also upriver will be prime farm land due to easy irrigation. Though you can have some interesting crops like onions (the herb not the bean) in the deltas. Potatoes would be a difficult crop but some lettuce closer to fall would be alright.

But this is probably an autism layer beyond what is necessary for most of our authors' applications.
The way I'd do it is have a specific organelle found in most cells, like a mitochondria, which is defined in all DNA genomes, but is only able to be produced in individual with a matching personal concept. This organelle can synthesize an organic alternate form of Vitubium called Vitubium Neutrino, which quickly dissipates when not bathed in the right matching concept. This organelle responds to neurotransmitters like others do, and in this instance uses a protein folding mechanism to arrange the Vitubium-Neutrino into a simple bio-glyph which activates it.

I chatted about this a bit with nasfaqronie, keeping in mind meatbro's ideas, and the way I see it, catalognauts are essentially powered by something that shares characteristics of Vitubium, but also has some key differences. Something they share is that they form this link that allows the movement magical energy between realms. I jokingly call this something "Vitubium-Neutrino" above, but it could be called anything.
If chuubanite is vitubium bound to matter, then I guess Vitubium-Neutrino (VN) bound to catalognaut cells might be chuubanite-neutrino, or whatever we want to call it. I don't think it would be exactly true chuubanite, since it's not really standard vitubium.
As for why use a glyph, that's just one way to "activate" the VN so that it can have an active and an inactive state (so that this can be a conscious action, instead of always active). Using this kind of natural glyph could explain how catalognauts end up having a variety of powers; their powers depend on the glyphs which vary a little bit based on the individual. So that's why Xohildr is a vine thing, while Misaki has that limb regen thing, the natural glyphs formed by their VN is a bit different.
The neurotransmitters themselves could be also the activator substance for the VN, cutting out that glyph step.
Mind you, all this is up to the scrutiny of the original catalognaut anon, I could understand a desire to keep the inner working of catalognauts a bit more spiritual.

Non-chronological storytelling can be pretty cool, you just gotta make sure the narrative is following some kind of logical order. Like, showing past events which explain the current events that the story just featured, or will feature in the next chapter. Or jumping forward to foreshadow at the climax of the story. Lots of good ways to pull it off I think.

What materials chuubanite of a certain type have the most affinity with varies, for example /meat/ chuubanite has a lot of affinity with living stuff, while /rose/ has affinity to rosestones, and /risu/ with plants and gems.
So /horni/ chuubanite could bind itself to a variety of things. Crystals is a classic, but something a bit more thematic could be nice... Nothing suitable for currency comes to mind though. Something I'm pretty sure about is that given the value of magic in the world of Vitubia, /horni/ would probably have two sets of currency, one "mundane" currency used to like, buy bread and stuff, and then MQ storage which is much more valuable and more comparable to gold ingots. That's because for small amounts, the storage device would be worth a lot more than the MQ stored on it, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense.
I think it's pretty straightforward to have MQ be highly valued though. It could be useful to power magical instruments, including military applications, so that makes it very desirable from the start. /horni/ could be a net exporter of stored MQ to militaries who use magic in their equipment, like /meat/, /morig/, /risu/ and others.

That was extremely well done, and I will definitely steal some lessons from this. The economy part was actually really good because instead of saying "We sell xyz", it gives you a concrete idea about the economy itself and more importantly, how it relates to the rest of the nation. You said that you used your economy this way as a way of showing Salome's rapid growth. That's an impressive way of tying a Chuuba to your thread that I never really considered at all. It's very realistic and down to earth about the problems a state founded on crusade and genocide would have economically. It also really helps me with Warkop lore too, since I know what is going on in the frontiers.

The teddy-bear cholla specifically is found in arid climates, but I think you could very plausibly have a spec bio'd cactus species that is similar but more suited to your wetter climate. For example, the Parodia rubibuenekeri is found growing in highlands in a lot of tropical south america. The subtropical highland on /moon/'s map is interesting. Its like a short mountain but also a humid jungle. I don't think there'd be that much difference in crops but it should have unique flora and fauna. Could be a unique climate for some monkeys.
