What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Make a list to have by your side beforehand.
Rehearse the stories, talking points is a good idea, train your delivery of the 'punchline'.
Reuse past conversations with irl people, maybe sprinkle with a little exaggeration to add flavour without going even slightly reddit tier.
Some even like just common stuff you do every day, like food experiences, or what you do as a hobby.
It's a one way conversation, except for the comments, so think of it as a dinner date, with a introvert that just like to hear you talk, given you have some talking skill.
Keep the streams short and sharp.

>The incredible amount of competition you must go through to get in
This too. I don't know how many people genuinely understand how big a competition there is now.
One of the first thing I forced myself to accept when I started vtubing last months was to accept that I'm probably never going to make it big because of how much competition there is right now. If you're starting now and you hope to achieve big fame, you're more than a year too late. I'm doing this now not because I want fame, but because I genuinely want to do it.
>significantly lower rewards you get from even the top tier corpos (the numbers for basically every en youtube based corpo chuuba is in the dumpster these days)
Joining HoloEN gen 1 or maybe early NijiEN was a goldmine. Everything else is pointless. Joining a small corpo feels completely pointless too, at least to me. You get all the negatives (such as limits to what you can do and what games you can play) without any of the benefits (such as big numbers and everything resulting from that).

I guess technically that could be true. Assuming that being poor means you have less free time, you spend more time either working or in your parent's home. >Streaming on youtube is harder than you might think.
Right, because of the lack of a proper page for livestreams and that.

>Twitter I think can be lived without, it never amounted to a whole lot for me.
What do you use to network, though?
I assumed people went to twitter because they can attract people to their stream and meet other vtubers.

I have a reaper plugin for OBS, a tool called reafr I think. It works, but it lowers the quality of the mic sound which I fucking hate because it takes away the background noise and so naturally it fucks with your sound. And if the fucking faggot frogs get louder over time (which they do) I have to manually let the mic pick up the noise again so it adjusts to it, otherwise the beepy frog sound leaks in to my speech. It's terrible.

If anything, people here might learn to use it for themselves. Though family being in the background making noise, which was the initial post I replied to that sent me on my autistic rage for faggot cunt frogs, might get by with a simple noise gate and be done with it. Most of you that don't live near nature will absolutely for sure get by with just a normal basic noise gate with the basic settings in OBS.

It's horribly unlikely you'll get anyone in your chat, so it'll be an agonizing three hours of waiting for somebody to show up that never will.
Since you don't want to upload the recording, nor make a video out of it, there's very little you can do. The only thing I can think of is taking the other guy's idea and reacting to it but that's a three hour bit that you'll have to commit to.

Vtuber voice matching has never really mattered unless the voice is INCREDIBLY dissonant from the model, and even then some people get away with it or make it a part of the character. This just means the voice you gave is perfectly fine.
I would just ask yourself, could you put that on for several hours at a time? Are you going to be fine with this voice being the voice of that character for the rest of time unless you do a major retcon?
IMO, so long as it doesn't completely lack character, just do a voice that you're comfortable with and you'll be fine. The design is sick and if you don't overthink everything you'll have fun and do fine.

Youtube is only a decent streaming platform if you plan of actually making "content" instead of just being a personality that streams random games. It means learning to edit, potentially keeping up with current content creation trends, and actively producing more than just "Hey we'll be playing Rimworld today!" and then playing while you talk for 4 hours. The fact is that 100% of the YT indies would still be doing better on Twitch, which has been shown time and time again.

No Twitter means no place to network with other chuubas and one less place to advertise yourself, and since you're probably the type of autist to avoid Discord is well it also means any sense of community basically cannot exist.

tl;dr
stop being a faggot, they're just websites
