What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

When is it okay for me to make up an art tag? It sounds like I'm a bit full of myself if I believe that I get enough fanart to warrant an art tag.

literally no one will care WHEN you have an art tag, the important thing is if you even HAVE an art tag in the first place. slap it on your bio if you really don't wanna make a tweet about it and you better make sure in advance it isn't being used

So I know what I want in a model, I even have references to communicate the details better. What's the best way to put it together for a live 2D artist?
Do live2D artists have a preference for commissions? I can't draw btw

>> No.37262330

>>37261905
Use AI to generate some stuff based off your preferences and references you like. Create a few "examples" this was and then give them to the artist with more details scribbled on top. Boom no drawing skills needed and you give your artist shit they actually can work with.

>> No.37262784

>>37261905
1) moodboard and preferences of designs if you want them to design you a vtuber
2)
if you have a design, front view sketch is all you need
3)
if your artist hasn't done vtubers before/ is inexperienced I highly recommend including a sketch of how you want the art separated

Can someone please explain to me what this stupid vtuber vs IRL thing going on in Twitter is? Are people unironically posting their irl faces for everyone to see? Did they get memed into sort of doxxing themselves?

Make a big picture with anything you think can help. Grab photos of anime or whatever you want (clothes, eyes, hairstyles, etc.) and just build up what you want in those pictures to send someone.
You can make your own shitty mspaint sketch so they can understand a bit clearer things you want that you might find hard to do.
Artists usually charge a different fee for character design, mostly because it can take a while for some commissioners to get the actual thing they want a model out of.

What is your price range, btw?

If you are someone I follow, I'll try to make time to at least lurk, but most of the time the /asp/ies I follow overlap with other chuubas I watch or stream when I'm wageslaving or sleeping.

>> No.37271062

>>37262330
I'm kinda doing this? Just trying to get a visual idea to play off what's in my head, helps keep it all reasonable and helps me think about it. Realized at some point I can roughly combine overlapping parts I like to see what works or doesn't.
>>37262784
Okay, moodboard, that sounds good. I should pretty much have references for everything I can think of. More worried about what's most important.
>>37268526
1000 - 1300 USD
I'd probably be fine with just the design + live2D now and worrying about the rigging after. I have the time, just not money since I'm not working to try and interact with family a bit more. It is the holidays pretty soon so it's a bad time extra expense wise.

I probably won't start streaming anytime soon though, so not like I need to now either.

>> No.37271425

>>37271062
Anything in particular you are looking for? I don't know if you chosen what capture stuff you have, I recommend testing it because for that budget you can get a full kit, unless you wants tons of extra rig stuff (that unless you got a recent Iphone or a really good RTX card you can't take advantage of)

>> No.37273763

>>37259054
Ban the groomers, that gets you publicity.

>> No.37274035

>>37271425
Yeah it looks like you’re right. From one artist I could get model and full feature rigging for just over 900 and another 200 including iPhone X tracking features. I have an iPhone with depth sensors (XS) already so it works out.

I’m not sure I need to be looking out for anything? I wasn’t aware. As far as I know just the range of movement you get is the only thing to look out for and if its full range great. Extra angling is better but not necessary

>> No.37274055

i got 200$ off a year of working on tiny art commissions, and i wonder is there anything i can spend it on for my vtuber? i feel like the l2d model and l2d rigging prices have skyrocketed a whole lot or maybe i need to look somewhere else. i am not that bad at art, but i am slow at it (and i am still working on a bigger sized l2d model for my vtuber), so i guess i should just somehow try finding some great rigger...

I don't have an Iphone so I never searched, but go look around for what would be your "ideal setup" and example models of such, some riggers offer free versions of their rigs for that purpose or just as "learning tools". Mostly to see if you can handle everything you wanna do, I had a few clients who got a full model and then realized their PC couldn't run half their games AND VTS and the face capture in a single device.

>> No.37281458

Figured this might be the best thread to ask this. So, I submitted my 3rd audition for hololive last month, but they never got around to watching my audition video this time.

I'm thinking maybe it got buried under other applications and they never got to it. Do you think it'd be worth it to send the application in again instead of waiting the whole 3 months?

I'd also accept that maybe they just didn't like my written screening so they didn't bother watching the video, yet they've watched my audition videos before.

I need some advice. I've just started streaming and it's going OK, I'm having fun, but there's a thought constantly looming over my head.

I'm a fully grown ass man using a voice changer to play a female avatar because I like girls, she's really cute, and my voice is too deep and manly to sound girly. I have to change usernames for games with already existing accounts among other things, but is this all worth the effort in the long run? I like my female avatar but I feel it's glaringly obvious I'm a guy with a voice-changer. Should I just start over with a male model? I made it myself so there's no sunken cost.

Nobody ya know since I been working through DMs and acquaintances atm. Will probably put out a few showcases within the week, but right now the public portfolio is null since I'm waiting for the guys to do their own reveal/debut and whatnot.
https://twitter.com/_Monster_Made_
Artist I work with specifically doesn't want to do the default anime artstyle of 90% of the VTubers, so take that as a good or a bad thing. I like the model she is making for me tho.

Absolutely fucking not. They didn't miss it, it didn't get buried. Wait another three months and send a new one. You are recording a new audition every time, right?

A little late to reply but yes of course. I've made a new audition video each time, and adjust my written answers to reflect my current experience. No copy/paste here.

>>37296747
Yeah fair. Just kind of sucks because this one I put a few hours into editing unlike my previous ones. I don't think I've put anything weird in my written because my answers were similar (not exact) to last time, and they still watched that video.

>> No.37297612

>>37281458
My guess is that they are not actively looking for new hires to hololive right now. I mean they have likely already selected all the members for their 3rd en gen already, and judging by how slowly they have been debuting new gens it is probably at least 1 year for the 4th gen to be hired and debut. I would wait at least until the 3rd gen to debut before sending another.
