What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Hey guys, let's say I build up my own VTuber agency. We all know what big agencies are about but what should a new agency be able to do in order to get you to apply to them? What do you want to see from them? I'd love to hear your genuine thoughts about it.

Rewatching your content for ~10min/day seems like the quickest way by far to build up good speaking and streaming habits from 0. That said, it's uncomfortable and a pain in the ass, so people starting out probably wouldn't bother. I think the main thing small streamers need to get through their skulls is that the viewers usually aren't there because they view you as a friend. They might even think "oh yeah, this streamer is a friend" but it isn't the case. They're only going to stick around so long as you're entertaining. And with small streamers, the entertainment comes from the idea that you could see yourself being friends with that person. But overtime, that excitement fades, as there's nothing "real" to keep it glued together. So what ends up happening is viewers want to get that friend entertainment experience again, and they have to look for new streamers to get it. You never want to fall for the reverse parasocial trap.

To people recording their streams in parallel. What are your recording settings?
At first I was using "same as stream" but the image was too muddy for my tastes so I tried tweaking things around, but what ever I do I can't find a good balance, I always get HUGE file sizes and sometimes not even with better image quality. I still haven't tried everything, next I am going to give VBR a shot.

Uploading tiktok videos is kind of addicting. Ive only done a few so far, but each video seems to go through this phase of being heavily promoted, where views, likes, and comments just flow in so quickly. Then they just stop suddenly, presumably based on how well the video was performing. Quite fun to watch the numbers and stuff. Much more fun than I've had actually using tiktok itself, the algorithm must require a ton of training to actually show you interesting videos. Almost all of what I have seen so far is just the most absolutely braindead garbage.

ClioAite. She asked questions and promoted herself here a decent amount before debut. She never had a single stream below 2 digit ccv and now gets over 100 viewers on almost every single stream. If you look at her numbers its an extremely consistent amount of growth, absolutely insane

She did pretty much everything right. She streams a ton(5+ hours a day this month), has a nice model, seems to network with bigger streamers pretty well (and smaller streamers which is nice). I dont think she even self promoted much, she got picked up by a bunch of /here/ groomers and just started growing like crazy.

I think I remember asp convincing her not to stream to youtube back when she first posted here. Actually great advice.

I’m somewhat convinced that the only reason why I get nothing for viewers is because I can’t promote and network at all

>> No.36609195

>>36608758
This may sound weird, but one of the easiest ways to get followers sometimes and even viewers very early on if you are stuck as a 0 view is to just go to other 0 views streams and try to befriend them. These people are often so starved of attention they will become quite friendly to you if you just watch them for a little while and fill up their chat a bit every once in a while and they will often return the favor by stopping by in your streams. Later on if both you and some of these friends end up growing you can start raiding these friends and getting raided by them as well. This kind of thing really can start to propel you into 2 view status.

New vtubers start streaming every day. And most of them start as 0 views. Its not even that hard to find some reasonably promising looking streamers if you just spend a little bit of time at it.

Just look through the twitch catalog sometime, sorting by vtubers and from lowest to highest views. You can also check out certain games you are really into to find streamers you might like to befriend, anything you can use to get closer and bond over. You can get a pretty good idea of how good somebody is in just a few minutes of stream watching, and you can vet their twitter or whatever in the meantime. But you dont really have to vet them all that much, its not like you are inviting them to a collab or something. And if they start acting like a retard in your own chat just ban them.

From what I have seen of her, it seems like her biggest strength as a streamer is being a female who on first glance seems rather pure, while also being quite open to entertaining the coomers and sexual deviants in her chat. Basically she comes off as rather groomable.
Many females make the mistake of either being completely pure to the point of coming off as an frigid bitch, or just going the complete opposite and just maxing coomer content (to the maximum amount possible on the persons chosen platform). Both are very suboptimal from a growth perspective.
Being almost completely pure is doable, but the streamer has to really be careful not to go into a really unpleasant version of "How dare you sexualize me you jerks". Ideally they have to allow the sexualization to take take place (and even 'accidently' encourage), while not really acknowledging that it exists at all. This strategy requires a really large amount of skill and talent compared to the others.
Going full coomer is a bit of a trap though. At that point you are basically just competing with porn. And the problem with trying to be porn is that nobody is going to watch you for hours, they are either gonna coom and leave, or get to a point where they are revved up enough that they will leave you for more extreme content. So this strategy will probably leave you with fairly low viewership.
Ideally you want to be in-between the two somewhere.

Obviously none of this applies to males, they run off a completely different paradigm.
