So many fun touches in that fight, using the sheath to block the bardiche is awesome, and then you just wrote that complex maneuver to let the Palkyrie vault over him perfectly, I could see it like manga panels. The man throwing himself into the fireplace is such a striking image...
And then she ties the trophallaxis to a mind altering substance, it's all wrapped up so neatly and creatively. This is great work anon, thank you for creating it. The Palkyries are awesome.

I tried to make both sides not stupid (despite all the mind-altering issues the convoy has been suffering from) so the captain predicted the Palkyrie to try slashing him with the bardiche, and the Palkyrie’s light weight limits the strength of the blow to something he can block with the sheath (which is something used in some schools of martial arts). He’s correct, just that he didn’t expect the same light weight also makes the Palkyrie easier to vault over him and kick his ass (almost literally). At least he’s quick enough to elbow the Palkyrie from biting off a chunk of his neck and spitting poison into it

Hey, at least he dies feeling warm… that portion’s inspired by both terminal burrowing caused by hypothermia (the core of the convoy’s blight) and that one time in the Kalevala where a young man gets played into a swamp in a magic music duel. It’s a pretty good read and quite fitting for /vnug/ given the similar environment and how much a role music and singing plays in magic

The way at some point the captain kind of breaks and goes "never had a choice..." was fucking great, reminded me of that moment in horror movies when the character is going through the worst time of their life and kind of lets themselves be taken in by the events that are already way out of their control... It's probably because I watched it recently but the whole setup with lots of mind altering substances kinda reminded me of Midsommar.
The Owl having so much personality went a long way towards humanizing the Palkyries btw.

I’m told it’s a pretty common staple of horror and I guess losing control and being subjected to the whim of nature is a primal fear that most of us still have even after we have dominated the food chain for so long. I think in a way that’s part of the reason why we fear cold environment like taiga and tundra, as they’re the last true wilderness (outside deep sea) on the planet that we still haven’t quite conquered.
I had that realization when I was (re)reading To Build a Fire for the writing – the intriguing part of the story is realizing that the main character (spoiler) dies long before he freezes to death, namely long before the story began, when he decided it’s fine for him to walk across the Yukon Trail at -50 alone with his dog, and how that fact only hit him when he’s already made multiple lethal mistakes and is pretty much screwed

It’s hinted a bit earlier in the story where one of the soldiers decided to write letter when hearing the songstress perform, although in a way what was written on the letter didn’t really matter. I guess you can say the medium is the message here, that the occupiers’ greed for the alluring wealth of /vnug/ will be the cause of misery and bloodshed that will sooner or later be their downfall. This is especially more apparent if you ignore some inconsistencies and consider what the company man was worshiping Mechaffyna and the bloody ingot being the one from the altar
The sentiment’s more overt in the songwright and her song, which was what inspired me to write the story in the first place. I ended up using two translations depending on which one is more fitting in a given moment, but Fukurou’s lyric makes it pretty clear that uninvited guests will not be welcomed unless they observe the forest’s way despite the calm tone. I also might’ve gotten too heavy-handed in the symbolism at the end in hindsight, given what rainbow (and the moon, to a lesser degree) and dark woods represent in the story

Ahhh it's that letter! Nice, I see now. I got that the silver represented self-destructive greed, but with the letter this ties the themes together nicely. I don't think the symbolism was too heavy handed, bringing them up together at the end kind of brings all the foreshadowing earlier full circle.

Peijaiset’s pretty awesome and gives a different (more “civilized”, maybe?) tone to what the Palkyries were doing, which was why I threw that in near the end of their “hunt”. It’s also kinda funny that we’re apparently not the only ones who found that cool, as the Ainu also has something called Iomante, which is basically the same ritual despite the two being on opposite side of the globe

Not enough of them… it’s sad (if expected) that most art about pole dancing focuses on eroticism even when weapons are involved. I basically just sieve through pole dancing+polearm manually and pick the few that were suitable for blue board and also look nice. Dragoons from FFXIV and Insect Glaive from monhun (also Liora’s favored weapon and one of the inspirations for Palkyrie fighting style) also fight with pole-arm with a lot of flying around, so those tags something give fitting images too. I guess pole dancing isn’t tagged as such unless it’s at least a bit erotic

I’m glad that I’m not alone in this! Even though it’s mostly known as “the lewd thing strippers do” to the point that the pole’s usually called stripper pole, it’s ultimately an acrobatic sports and performance that requires a lot of muscle strength (holding your entire weight with only your thighs and/or hands is hard…) and coordination (… especially if you want to spin and turn around it in an aesthetic manner). Few other sports demand as many muscles to pull off, which also helps it to train your core strength. In Palkyries’ case, their stronger muscles (compared to their size) and light weight might well make them some of the best pole dancers in the world. It’s also an important part of their culture for the aforementioned reasons, since the same skill set translate well to both tree-climbing and hunting

Unfortunately no, I live in a fairly conservative place so activities like that aren’t well received, and I’m not the healthiest person to begin with anyway. I think in places where pole sports are more popular you can usually get proper classes for training. I think most classes are gender-segregated so that might save you some embarrassment and yes Liora’s cute as always! Hard to top her handcam gunpla stream though

Try to get a more modern kit if possible since they’re generally better-built and look better as snap builds. They might look more intimidating but it’s well worth the extra effort! Panel lining’s also a good idea if you want to go a step further – it’s relatively easy to do and the effect’s very prominent in most kits

Hooman are considered to the "Star Aligned Friendship" our best friends. I am not sure truly of our relations with the Saplings given I have not spoke to them, but old rep told me it was close. idk.

Hate is a strong word, as we really don't hate them as much as we have grown to distain them greatly over the years because they seemingly believe themselves to be the police of the worlds oceans and entitled to send even their biggest ships on missions like yours, without informing us. What we want is them to respect other naval powers enough to realize that they can deal with the Schizos and Pirates in their own waters just fine and to not send ships of the line into those waters because Ships of the Line aren't built to fight pirates, but other nations. There could be sea schizos with strong ships, but we truly believe that other navies can handle it, without their interferrence. This is also in light of them having many enemies at home. Sort of a pride but also national honor sort of thing because Ships of the Line are the greatest show of Naval Prestige and to have them from a neutral power in your own waters without being told is very insulting to the nations that are there, especially when we are one of the largest fleets in the world. In the end, I just want no more ships of the line being sent by them into our territory without a good reasons why and our consent (which will come with a good reason). A VIP isn't that to us, as we can just transfer it to our ships.

While the rep wrote that we hold military exercises together I personally want to walk back on that on a limited scale. Not only due to the logistics involved but also because large scale wargames like this are a relatively late invention. The asymmetry between the administrative capabilities and slow communication would probably mean that when not in times of war coordination between the two nations would be limited. I'm not even sure if there would be a joint/supreme command in times of war not least due to the Principality's intense pride.

In terms of the division of work between the allies The Republic would control the gulf and parts of the North Sea. While the Principality maintains direct control of their sovereign waters. Other areas that are not considered sovereign waters would most likely be a sort of mutual security zone. Where patrols are planned and delegated to flotillas of the allied nations (with the Principality bearing the brunt of the responsibility, naturally). Probably.

When talking about collaboration, mostly meant in communications, we're still 2 separate navies and nations with different structures, Hoshiyomia would've been consulted as a sort of advisor in certain matters where other experts are needed I imagine, with our defense treaty allowing us to be able to do certain tasks and easing communication, but the scale of collaboration is obviously still limited by logistics and differing national goals.
There would not be a joint command by the nature of communications.
What I mean is, I've always meant to have relatively limited collaboration due to difficulties of organizing things. You do make a good point on the war games.
Fortunately we haven't written much on the structure of the navy, so we can move things around as much as we like.
On the map, might as well just cover the entry way into the northern ocean, but I'm unsure of how sea control was defined back in the day.

If you would go to that levels of detail, I would consider that in this timeline, there are two weeks between the Marina Stellare learning of the BF presence and Martinelli being at Port Here. Did Martinelli lie in wait next to Port Here to jump just as they arrived? How did the Marina Stellare know that the convoy was going to be in Port Here before they got here? It seems more likely that the Marina Stellare would hear of the BF presence only once they're in Port, since there wouldn't be communications while they're in transit. No we all made errors in this. Lots of things that should have been talked about more beforehand kind of got put aside and we also assumed too much towards each other. Unfortunately, nations within the general area of where an interaction is going to happen is rarely considered. Its got nothing personal to do with you, its just how things are. As far as I know, OGsuner just wanted to write a sapling story, and he offered to involve the deadbeats and nasfaqg in it since they hadn't interacted with /risu/ a lot as of late and the nations are supposed to be on at least friendly terms. And thats it.

Might be just me, but I dont like the idea of nation A being forced to interact with nation C if they want to do a story with nation B. I like storywriters having some freedom to choose what and who to include in their stories, so when a forced interaction with nation C interferes with the nation A's ability to interact with B, that forced interaction is a bad thing.

Thats a little bit what has been going on here I feel. /Risu/ wants to interact with /uuu/. If /risu/ are forced to interact with others in a way that would limit their ability to achieve the interaction with /uuu/ then that forced interaction should be changed to allow /risu/-/uuu/, or be cut out entirely.

Play your nation the way you want to, but be consistent. I dont think the prideful and HONOR-BOUND hoshiyomia navy would allow an attack on civilians, nor would they sneakily scheme with an ally to hurt a neutral power. I plan on initially making claims on those first strategic spots outlined and then progressing further down to the border of Watson on the eastern front either due to aid from other lords or due to more dynastic claims, probably a mixture of both honestly. At the end of the war I want to control all of the territory outlined in pink as well as those that make up the coast of /hlgg/, which I now realize is a BEEG amount of land so lore building for /hlgg/ is very needed before war is initiated to not make it look very stupid and cheap, nanora. The way I visualize /hlgg/ is akin to byzantium. Big, heavily fortified cities, lots of art and culture and nice buildings and riches. Geographically, it'd be far easier to aim for the East then the west when you consider the geographic formations in play. I see a strategic plan of using our mountains to create a hard and powerful land defense before extending that defense to seperate the east and the west of /hlgg/ and then rushing quickly to take control of rivers that could be used to bring troops further inland, nanora. We'll probably be burning alot of ships on our way and doing everything we can to make sea support as difficult as possible. One is dynastic claims made from the Candy Kingdom to /hlgg/ nobility which would imply them being subject to the will of the Hime Vessel and to follow lunaito laws as well as much of /hlgg/ being speculated to be the same ground which lunaito ancestors traveled upon to get to the Candy Kingdom. This is more of a back drop to a different issue which I'd have a character made to represent. Lunaitos recognize that they're in a favorable position as of now, however they also realize that schizos are growing in number and are getting more powerful, that alongside the instability of meidos has caused some to become nervous if these are signs that point to a world wide incursion. These fears were held before the fall of /nasa/ but with the graduation of Sana and the destruction of /nasa/, many lunaitos feel a grave anguish that they were not able to protect their new allies despite being a nation doing exceptionally well in deterring schizo incursions. /hlgg/ getting hit with more schizos with every new Yab that occurs has many lunaitos under the belief that both nations would be better under the jurisdiction of the Himedom which along with being known as a powerful and noble nation, is also famed for being able to quickly build up and defend against schizos. /hlgg/ also controls the southern ports and lunaitos desire a navy that is capable of protecting and aiding their allies like that of the Black Fleet and while it isn't entirely out of the question that /hlgg/ would allow the Candy Kingdom to create a gigantic naval fighting force on their ports, it puts lunaitos in a far better position if they control it themselves. Unsure if the main character to represent this will specifically have guilt about the Sanalites being a motivation but alot of it is the desire to make sure the future generation is protected.

Anyways at the end of the war, the territory claimed by the luknights would either have the same leaders reinstated or new lunaito leaders put in place. Luknights would help rebuild but also begin to start sowing their chuubanite within the soil to see how compatible it is and at what speed it might be estimated for widespread candyification to take effect.
In terms of policy changes, for the most part no immediate great changes would be put in place aside from the presence of armored luknights and those trade policies which give the allies of lunaitos cheaper deals in trade markets and the construction of lunaito naval bases and fortresses. Lunaitos would treat these city dealings with the /hlgg/ lords like they do with normal lunaito nobility, in fact there's a solid chance that the city lords would immediately become lunaito nobility if they were cooperative with us. All in all, outside of reaping a certain amount of income from /hlgg/ in terms of taxes and using their ports as harbors for their ships. Lunaitos won't begin to impress their own culture of knightlyness onto their /hlgg/ territory and on maps it would still read as part of /hlgg/ however it would be noted that this is the part owned by the Himedom. The big difference would be more candy shops and candy based buildings, more naval military bases, more half luman children, and presumably a generally more honorable nation and less crime due to the presence of lunaitos however outside of that it should still operate the same as /hlgg/ normally does, or at least that's the plan.

Because I did some math using the more accurate Map3.0 (Latitudes in the interactive map are a bit distorted, especially closer to the poles), and actually, the south of /vnug/ is juuust in the Antarctic circle (66.5 deg latitude). The lands below the pink line in pic gets at least one day of 24 hour sunlight. Could be something to play with. It might not be a long enough to justify naming a season after it, but I reckon it would be at least a couple days at the very southern tip.
