I think publishing it was the right thing to do, although I can definitely see why you didn't feel like it made the cut. Surrealism is a really difficult concept to wrangle, because too far gone and your readership either gets bored or doesn't understand. This one's more of the former category.

Still, to reiterate, I think publishing it was a good idea. Worse than a bad story by far would be simply deleting it.
Still think you should add a little disclaimer noting it's a reject-fic and not a genuine offering, though.

What I was intending originally was a abstract tackling of inner demons. For instance, what this would have been was Flare, after discovering her heart wasn't beating, defeating something that represents trauma in some way and regaining her life.

The problem being is it wasn't really suited to a short story if I wanted to really sink my teeth into it. I think I'll keep FTK more grounded instead.

First impressions, the beginning monologue kind of felt really fucking OOC for marine, and the sudden shift into second person from third person was really fucking rough; enough that I couldn't really get into it. Which makes this a pretty rough prologue to start a story on.

The perspective switch wasn’t as bad to me as it was the other Anon, but it was a tad jarring. The monologue in the beginning was too long IMO, I didn’t want to bother reading all that when it meant nothing. Other than that, I don’t have much to say. Your prose is fine, and I assume you have something interesting planned because as it stands this is pretty basic and doesn’t have much going on. It’s short so you could probably tack it onto the first chapter, that way something could happen.
