Depends. While you are right about idols, keep in mind that their "acceptable" interactions with males are all within work-related matters. You will still get drama if tabloids find idol X and actor Y having dinner in a nice restaurant outside of work without managers.
So that brings up the question: are collabs between males and females VTubers purely just work? Sure, there are work-related-only collabs such as sponsored streams or company-wide events. What about collabs organized and started by the chuubas, though? Are they work, or are they leisure activities? Depends on how you see it, it will be more, or less acceptable.
It might not be a coincidence that top Hololive members in term of viewership (both in JP and EN) don't collab with males outside of work

No it's a personal opinion. Ame's 'addressing' of the matter particularly irked me enough that I didn't even bother watching Kronii's 'statement' because I'm sure I'd find it annoying too. Most JPs (not all, admittedly) had to go through the days of 2views and 3views before, had to fought hard for viewers, had to go through drama or (and?) are ambitious as fuck. Thus, they treasure each and every viewers unless the viewers go really really out of line.
EN enjoyed the benefits of their seniors too much and pretty much had much easier time building their fanbases. Several of them don't even care about success that much nowadays. This is basically what HoloJP went through circa 2019 - 2020 when Fubuki and Matsuri were collabing with Holostars. I remembered Watame got sent a SC asking why she would talk to Holostars on Twitter, to which she responded she doesn't feel like it's wrong to talk to your coworker no matter who they are.
Fubuki and Matsuri did suffer some loss of gachikoi, but long term nothing really happened. Fubuki is still trucking along as the official shill chuuba and Matsuri's decline is mostly due to her Apex spam. But then again Hololive wasn't as big nor did it have as much presence in the West compared to right now, so maybe the backlash could be bigger. The JP also doesn't really collab with Holostars that much. I can't remember the last time Fubuki collabed with a Holostars outside of shill stream.
