when 1st wave first debuted rin figured it'd be hard to follow 8 vtubers at once, so she formed the sub-unit jk gumi and they held their first stream around valentine's 2018. since then it's been a yearly tradition for them to collab on valentine's. Nijisanji and Mito are directly responsible for lowering the overall quality of vtubing forever. They popularized the cheap and low quality Live2D and the common "streamer" format where you just do mundane shit for long hours with entertaining being optional. So every tom, dick and harry jumped aboard regardless if they had any talent or not. Now we enjoy a literal ocean of shitty vtubers who think all you need is an anime avatar to become something even though it won't mask having no personality.
