It was awful. If anyone's found themselves in a slump and unable to write, I've found that reading a book actually helps. I was stuck for a while and hadn't put down a single word for about a week then decided fuck it, I'll read something since I haven't done so in a while. Whaddya know, the moment I finished the book I pumped out 8k words in two days.
Might not be for everyone but if you're really struggling to write, I recommend reading any book. It'll also improve your skills.

I like that idea but if the narrative is going to hinge on dialogue made by the fly then you can't just leave his dialogue as "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" or something because the subsequent character reactions of shock are going to leave the reader bewildered as to what's actually going on.
Maybe have characters listen to the fly buzzing then repeat everything they heard back to themselves, purely for the benefit of the reader, like...

"bzzzzzzz"
