Wasn’t Reboot on Toonami? I remember watching it on Cartoon Network but I also remember having to wait years for Cartoon Network to get the rights for the final episodes. They had the same problem with Zoids for some fucking reason and the wait was so fucking long because it was hard to find on the internet at that time that the ending ended up being so fucking anticlimactic for me

While the channel YTV was always the carrier (and partial producer) of ReBoot in Canada, the show switched US networks between seasons 2 and 3, from ABC to Cartoon Network.

ABC's censorship board was EXTENSIVELY anal about the show's content, and since ReBoot needed to be approved for both Canadian and US broadcast, the studio was forced to bow to ABC's demands while YTV was giving them no trouble. The hassle with ABC was bad enough that the studio made an entire episode mocking them as early as season 1: Talent Night.

Talent Night's plot was that it was the kid character's birthday, so his older sister was organizing a night of entertainment as a celebration. While the kid was kept busy, the sister and a "Prog Sensor" oversaw act auditions, with the censor vetoing nearly every act. This censor was based on a real ABC censorship employee, who was reportedly "not happy about it".

While ABC was being bashed all episode, YTV instead got a shoutout: one of their characters they used for advertisement and channel bumpers was placed in as a cameo during one shot. Non-Canadian networks got a different version of the episode to air, where the YTV was removed, causing an odd pan up to a seemingly generic robot for no reason.

Eventually, Disney bought ABC and decided to drop ReBoot from it schedule. Already tired of ABC's bullshit by this point, ReBoot had started to introduced darker themes into its plot anyway. In the final episode of season 2, the tanks the villain's forces used were named "ABCs" (Armoured Binome Carriers) in the line "The ABCs! They've turned on us! Treacherous dogs!"

Cartoon Network then scooped up the show for US airing, putting it in its Toonami block. With new, relaxed rules on one side of the border and YTV always being okay with what they were trying to do, ReBoot started season 3 on a DECIDEDLY darker and more serious tone. Also, more boobs.

As an example of how tight ABC's censorship board's assholes were: they disallowed HOCKEY to be depicted, convinced viewers would equate the word to some obscure sexual slang instead of the sport. The only time ReBoot referenced hockey was on the trading cards, being outside ABC's control.

And remember, ReBoot was Canadian.
