I've been a fan of Nijisanji EN since Lazulight debuted but the direction the branch is going is almost as bad as Hololive EN. At least the new hires fucking stream unlike Holos, but they're so fucking boring I find myself skipping any streams outside of the first 3 waves. The amount of effort someone like Shu or Ike put into their content is almost as bad as Gura, it's fucking embarrassing my oshi is associated with them.

What is a vtuber fan to do when both corpos are becoming completely soulless and all the indies just copy them? When is the next big vtuber group going to rise up and deliver us from mediocrity and lazy whores?

Enna is talented, and has quite a morbid personality.
Reimu works well with NijiUK.
Nina is safe to ignore her existence.
Selen is perhaps the most entertaining livestreamer I've ever seen.
Rosemi is creative and cute
Petra is a talented visual design artist.
Finana is lewd and dumb.
Pomu is perhaps the most beloved vtuber of all time, also very creative.
Elira has zatsu powers that eclipse human understanding.

It's a pretty good group of people, I'm always going to be fans of them. If new waves come it will be fun to see how they interact.

I stopped watching shortly near the end of 2020 when it became obvious none of them care about their channels beyond making money except Kiara. NijiEN's problem is they keep hiring people whose only knowledge of vtubers is ironically through Hololive so they just emulate Hololive's style of GFE with male vtubers. If we actually had male vtubers like JP who put out fun zatsudans like Kenmochi or organize cool events it'd be a totally different situation. Unfortunately none of NIjiEN's hires after Ethyria have any idea what Nijisanji is or what vtubers are outside of the Hololive clips they encounter when they search "vtuber" on Youtube.

I try Phase Connect from time to time but the majority of their streamers are below even Hololive's level. Either they're just generic 2views who play the same flavor of the month games or Pippa and her Pippa-likes that only get attention by invoking 4chan in all their streams. It's quite annoying when someone so soullessly tries to turn being on 4chan into their entire identity despite knowing nothing about its culture pre-2016, like the virtual equivalent of a carpetbagger.

Of course there's exceptions like Hololive where creativity goes to die due to their overbearing management, but for the most part even a garbage black company like Tsunderia has gems like Amiya who shine entirely on their own merits despite being attached to a shitty brand.

It's not about keeping up with everyone, the fact they haven't debuted any good waves in almost an entire year is the issue. It marks a huge shift in the company's hiring practices that will make any original fan feel very discouraged from supporting the company. If they at least brought some interesting people into Iluna I wouldn't mind how bad Luxiem and Noctyx were. But I just don't have any faith in the company to hire anyone to match the original 9, it's sad. Well, you could always just not stick with a single corpo and just focus on the chuubas you like
I'm not exactly a unityfag per se (as in, I don't care if there's collabs/outreach b/w the corpos/indies), but I kinda wish there wasn't as much stigma against watching vtubers regardless of which corpo they belong to
For ex, what's wrong with watching all of:
- Ironmouse for her interview series
- Selen for her (relatively) top-tier gaming and laugh
- Gura for cute humbleshork on her idol journey
- Pikamee for best kettle laugh
Just watch whatever you want
Granted, it's a bit harder in niji EN with the open VC culture, but there still are solo-only streams (or at least streams without luxiemshit)

Well it's probably a symptom of how little niji JP TL clips there are, and the lack of a relevant forum that talks about both branches together a lot (e.g. r/hololive) but there's a far higher percent of holo EN audience that watch of holo JP, than niji EN of niji JP

I think you bring up a good point regarding the accessibility of JP chuubas (though I'd also argue NijiEN has far more output than HoloEN so if you follow multiple talents you have more to catch up on and therefore less time to follow NijiJP).
That's probably why the majority of EN talents are the way they are, they don't have the language or cultural skills to engage with the older guard so they are limited in who they base themselves off of.
