The problem is we can't tell how much of it is Cover hating Kanata and how much of it is Kanata hating Kanata. Some holos have to fight their own managers for opportunities. How much Kanata has to do it, we'll never know. We do know that she has changed quite a few managers so she has done some fighting but that was long ago. If she had to fight for everything I can understand if at some point she just got tired. I feel like she has just resigned to go with the flow as far as streaming goes. I can't help but notice the signs that Hololive isn't about participation, being in the thick of things for her anymore. I don't think it's a bad thing but I have to accept that her pace is different from the Hololive members that shape what Hololive is. People bring up Towa's example but Towa was dragged through mud the first few months and she had to claw her way up top and now we're at a point where kenzoku join Hololive. Kanata's situation is entirely different.

It's unfair to say Kanata hates Kanata. She might still have shitty self-esteem, but she really did learn to love herself much more. The problem is that she's pathologically averse to imposing on others or demanding things, even if it's things she ought to be entitled to, so she'll just accept whatever treatment she gets without complaining or at least trying to get a better deal. She obviously loves Kanata the character, by this point it's well established she sees her as someone who saved her. At the end of the day she's well aware she's adored. But she's not of very favorable opinion on herself as a person. Like how before debut she imagined senpais would be strict with her, she doesn't like her voice, doesn't assume she deserves anything and so on. It's a typical impostor syndrome coupled with insecurities stemming from her handicap and lack of entertainment experience. Which isn't really a rare thing in vtubing, obviously, but Kanata's case is special.

But as much as I think she's right to find her own pace and keep at it, it's frustrating to see her neglecting content possibilities because of obvious insecurities. We should be way past the point where she's unaware this is a part of her appeal. We've been steadily regressing in some of those areas. Things have been rough for Kanata, I get that. But it doesn't mean I'm expected to turn a blind eye on surface level occurrences like 80% of the Rust playtime being spent offline for no particular reason other than her personal desire to not show it, constant 3D recordings juxtaposed by complete lack of involvement in 3D streams. I understand why this happens but I don't think Kanata is aware it's this transparent. Or she knows and doesn't care. Or she cares but hides some horrible circumstances she's in from us.

There's no reason she should feel obligated to stream everything she does in the game. If she were actually procrastinating on streaming just in order to have fun you'd have a point, but not only is she streaming nearly every day, she spends most of that time doing the "boring" stuff she doesn't think worthy of streaming just so that she can deliver the stream the way she envisions it. I'd love to watch all of that too, but it's really up to her what kind of content she wants to deliver, and she clearly is not comfortable with the idea of doing a stream without a clearly laid out plan.

The fact that she's trying to show only entertaining content rather than just being casual about it is what scares me, since it feels like she's reverting to having less and less confidence in herself. Having a split between her on and off stream personality isn't something I like since I love Kanata and I want to see all sides of her, not just what she prepares to try to be entertaining. Things like "it's not fun because she's inexperienced and fails at basic tasks" or "this content is boring to watch" don't work in Rust. The reason I say it's a regression is because she had no problem showing those things when she was playing ARK. Obviously she played offline too but she was a lot more open to streaming it too. If Kanata feels otherwise then maybe her opinion on what counts as good Kanata content also shifted. But if that's the case what's even her opinion on Kanata these days?

Might have to do with the fact that people enter Rust stream and expect high octane stuff usually in a stream like raids and fights while ARK stream content was just grinding and taming, can't say for sure. Either way, most members tend to do the mundane stuff like grinding for upkeep off stream so this isn't just a case of Kanata.

This is one of the main reasons I hope they adjust the upkeep for their bases, any time they try to make any higher tier base it requires pretty crazy upkeep. I know some members like Miko mentioned they'd play Rust less in season 3 partially because it's too much of a hassle to do the boring stuff compared to interesting stuff.
Plus, this is a more personal wish, but I do hope season 3 has a bit less interest from members in general, I like the streams but almost all her solo streams since she got into Rust have been Rust plus the fact that she streams it for pretty long periods means she has another really long superchat reading backlog which she will want to get through. Alternatively, instead of less interest I'd also be fine with very high interest from more members so that there's stuff going on in the server constantly, although that seems way less likely.

Most people keep upkeep off stream but we know for sure that Kanata isn't keeping just that off stream. I don't think base building or hanging out with other members is boring. Some members stream gambling, fishing or farming and they still get interest from viewers. Kanata used to stream things like that too. You could say that it's hard to guarantee that she'll run into people on stream so you can't make a stream out of it but she is deliberately streaming Rust when there's not a lot of people online just so she can do her solo idea, end the stream and then play for 20 more hours. It is her choice to do that. I'm all for her striving to deliver more things of substance but I'm not sure it's the game where this is actually needed. She clearly has an on and off mode, but she streams both of those. The off mode is reserved to superchat readings, member streams and spaces, which is also understandable. She has a completely different approach when she's streaming for the "general audience" than when she's streaming for her fans. No, I'm good with Kanata's approach, I'm way past entitlement and owning my oshi's time and all that. What bothers me isn't that I'm not getting content but the fact that Kanata might think that she needs some kind of special approach to make things entertaining. She's one step away from following entertainment market research guidelines on how to attract viewers. It all comes back to her confidence but it doesn't sit right with me that we're 2.5 years into this. Kanata is very selective with her content these days but back in the day her more relaxed, simple streams of building and gathering resources weren't bad content. The discussion is about why she would feel otherwise now because Rust is the perfect reason to do these kind of streams since people are entertained by practically anything happening in Rust. And naturally when fun interactions happen people want to see Kanata's PoV as well and Kanata is well aware of that, see her tweets about the war event and subway adventures with Nene, Lamy and Flare. Either way Kanata says way more negative things about herself than anyone here. Wanting your oshi to have more confidence in her entertaining skills and overcome anxiety is far from negative.

Maybe the archenemy Pekora plan wasn't the best, it was a fun bit and good content but if you weren't watching Pekora POV it got pretty overwhelming closer to the final assault, there were like 10-15 people talking, everyone funneling in small rooms so most people can't do much of value. It was fine. There were times when Kanata ended a stream by joining a different group due to the stream's objective but she always ended up in Suisei's group by the start of her next stream so they played offline with no problems.
Kanata was laughing normally and Suisei even parroted some things that made her laugh to the Rust VC because Kanata didn't have it automatically on. They were qlso chatting up normally before the group got too big and Kanata was hit by motion sickness.
