The game works on a constant resource stream of mass and energy rather than static stockpiles like AOE. The "armored command unit" (ACU) is the objective; every match is essentially an assassination mission. Kill the ACU, the enemy units self-destruct.

Also, it's somewhat asymmetrical. The three factions (4 in the expansion) aren't identical in unit types and play differently. Finally, the scale of the map and armies make multitasking invaluable.
