You guys ever feel depressed or demoralized that your story will never be something that is truly important or affect anyone's life? No matter how much effort you put into it, it'll probably end up being forgotten in ten years or something. Or that there are works out there objectively worst than yours but because it's a movie or TV show, it gets waay more attention than it deserves.
I don't know how to cope with this feeling, and it really kills the motivation whenever I think about it

I mean, you're writing vtuber fanfiction on 4chan of all places. Even if your story is very impactful for our standards, it's unlikely any stories here have impacted people for life. It's possible, but I guess what I'm saying is that's not often what we're going for.

In any case the reality is it sounds like you're writing of creating for a third party's sake, and not for yourself. Movies or TV shows do this. They have a focus group full of consoomers being asked questions about what they like, then the product is built around the most popular thing so it can sell. Rarely do people's lives get touched or changed because of the subject matter in a piece of media that was blueprinted to be popular from the get-go. Even if you take an easy target like, say, Harry Potter, it's not the powerful life lessons or incredible message of the work that resonates with people who are fanatical about it, it simply is because they're nostalgic about it because they grew up with it. And that's ultimately fine.

This is a you problem, and I'm not saying this to be mean, but it's because you're letting your motivation be dictated by things you simply cannot control. Yeah it sucks when you don't get the recognition you think you might deserve, or even any recognition at all, but if the desire to be impactful or popular is what's propelling you to write, then ironically that's when you fall into the pitfall of chasing trends. Write what makes you happy and is fun for you, and learn to enjoy it for what it is. It's really the only way to stay motivated.

I dunno, sometimes I read a book or whatever and I compare it to what I would've written given the same circumstances and think about what I lack or have as a creator of stuff. I don't depend on other people for writing to be enjoyable, but I don't know if there is enjoyment in creating fiction if nobody sees it. Obviously I want my story to be the best thing that's ever created, but it definitely won't happen so I don't think about it, but when I do I wonder if I'll ever create something better than what I have now.
Anyway, I feel better now, posting here makes me motivated, so I'll get back to writing

Think this idea might work as a CYOA style story or a basic text adventure or game. Idea is this:
Since childhood (You) remember being friends with a nearby Atlantean, who, even as you've grown older and more mature, still seems to be the same clingy, bratty, mischievous girl she's always been, physically and mentally.
At the age of 18, you're hoping to move out of town to begin pursuing a college education and a career in the city, and decide to tell Gura about your plans for the future.

But Gura doesn't want you to leave. You've only known each other for 15 or so years. She can't let you leave and just disappear, not before you do all the things you were supposed to together.

(You) politely remind Gura you've only got 80 years on the clock, and can't spend them all with her, and try to get her to accept you'll be more distant now and to maybe spend time with some other friends.

Then she has an idea. One last game of hide and seek, in the watery caves of the beach, where she says she has something she'd hoped to show you for a while. Just one last chat and one little game, and if you win, she'll let you leave.

(You) think it's cute, and go along with it to make her feel better, up until you reach the cove, where she pushes aside an astoundingly large rock to reveal darker, wetter tunnels, leading to a large, deep pit in a room full of glowing crystals.

It's her "special place", where she keeps countless things she never wants to suffer from the ravages of time, a portal to a coral-encrusted, half-submerged, labyrinthine pocket dimension whose only living residents are either loyal old pet creatures of the sea and enchanted security mechanisms. Nothing gets in without her permission, and so far, nothing's bothered trying to leave.

You notice her grip on your arm becoming almost painfully tight, and as you try to pull away, you find she's much stronger than her tiny frame should allow.

If you're truly determined to leave her, she says, and all you've done together simply can't compare to the rest of the world outside, you'll have to prove it, and she throws you into the pit, sending you plummeting into the salt-soaked prison.

Rest of the story is (you) running around a dark, eerie catacomb, trying to avoid yandere Gura and find a way to escape before you're too physically or mentally broken to continue.

The basic outline for the world at large is

China has a civil war between two communist factions and seeing the writing on the wall, a bunch of North Korean Generals defect. They tell the South Korean government the obvious, that NK is full of shit, doesn't have nukes or anything and with China busy is ripe to be liberated. South Korea puts the call out to its neighbors and allies to see if they'd aid with Korean reunification. Pretty much everyone says yes, but America would prefer an invasion of the destabilized mainland China to get Taiwan and maybe more. Nobody else is feeling that ballsy and since time is of the essence with the Chinese civil war probably not lasting too much longer, most Pacific countries say fuck it and team up. South Korea, Japan, SEA on the whole(minus the Philippines who stuck by the US), Australia and New Zealand(which leads to UK and Canada helping out their Commonwealth brethren when push came to shove) form the Korean Reunification Expeditionary Force(KREF- pronounced kay-ref) and go hard on NK. It's a resounding success, and Pyongyang is captured in just under a year. Long lost families are reunited, peace and liberty spread to another despotic shithole, the works.

Despite rumors and sparse reports of ghastly misconduct among gung-ho KREF troops, all the countries involved with the 2nd Korean War are feeling pretty good. Japan takes it a bit further and with a disgruntled States feeling disrespected, they agree to break off their long standing security treaties. With The Commonwealth and most of the Pacific being better friends now, the Japanese public are on board with this new taste of independence.

Chinese Civil War ends without much fanfare, new Commies on top proclaim to the world the standard "Final Warning" spiel and how they feel taken advantage of for their close personal ally North Korea being annexed by SK. Few people are worried that China may be serious this time to show they aren't weak after their war, but nothing happens that isn't from the old insecure powers playbook.

Japan's election happens and is very controversial. The party responsible for joining the KREF and axing the Treaties narrowly loses, even though nothing short of a landslide was predicted. The new party in charge immediately begins tripping over their own dick, and in just three years Japan is doing terribly . Rumors of either Chinese or U.S meddling are abound in the news and on the streets, unemployment and homelessness at a rate not seen since the end of WW2, and crime skyrocketing are making for a very shaky nation. This is where Heartbreak Tokyo begins to take place.

I've made people nut a couple dozen times that's enough impact for me in a fleeting hobby that I'll likely forget about in 10 years just as they will. I don't particularly care about being remembered as far as fics go, so long as people enjoy it in the moment, it's fine. If they don't, I'll destroy it from existence and try again next time.

Personally, the only reason I think about being remembered is due to stupid human genes that tell me to procreate and leave a legacy behind. There's no real benefit to it, if you truly think about it. With prehistoric monkey brains such as ours, It's best if you don't think about things so emotionally. Leave that to the women.

My work has, thankfully. My ryona stories have actually touched quite a number of people and (at least on AO3) I've had a few people come to me and say it helped them a lot to read it. The comments I got when I finished Building Block Doll were touching and made me so happy.

But even if that weren't the case, I write because I enjoy writing, not because I want to make my mark. To Slay A Monster barely gets any views but I continue it because I'm having fun with it, not because I want it to be the thread's standard for adventure storytelling.

To me, it's a hobby. Even if only one person reads my work, I'm happy with it. Do it because you want too, not because you're trying to impress people.

Dracula/SCP style of writing where Watson tries to recruit all of HoloMyth alongside Ina. Ina is still a mere human that was thought by her family the arts of the depths. Both of them go on a journey to try and summon and contain each of the myths with the help of Ina's power and Ame's time stopping watch.

The thing Watson doesn't know is that the more Ina uses her power, the more she morphs into the Ancient Ones' vessel. Small at first, like her black hair turning a deep purple. I had a dedicated Hoshiyomi read what I have so far of that topless Suityan at the beach story, and his feelings are similar to mine when I re-read the story: that outside a few isolated and very particular moments, you could swap in basically anyone else in the story and it would fit just as well.
