Japanese has almost no exceptions at all. For the most part it's only the irregular verbs (like する or 来る) plus a few words like いい・良い. In comparison, a massive part of english relies on memorization to be spoken correctly.

(Srsly though, duolingo is limited to keigo. I've also have anki, my phone has installed japanese speech recognition/speech typing, and my chrome has furigana, also downloaded kanji dictionaries and grammar books like by Makino, etc. etc... but free stuff can only do so much. Live classes with professors, wheren there is actual interaction, are psychologically the most efficient way to learn a language (besides actually living in Japan) but of course, profs demand a lot of money.)

i disagree. i self taught myself english. it's really a matter of having time and often being too tired to actually put your mind into studying, but you can definitely self teach yourself japanese too, especially with all the materials available today

you will need a teacher/japanese speaking person after a few years to learn how to speak/write like a nip but before that you should already be able to read even books and say whatever you want (even if you might sound like a caveman at times, or end up writing like a shounen mc mixed with a slice of life little girl)

This. For example, the particle "yo" in Duolingo has to be translated as "you know" when in fact "yo" is just an exclamation mark. Duolingo is too strict (it is based on keigo after all), which is inefficient if you want to speak Japanese in a flexible manner, like a native or yakuza.

I can recognise all of them now just from seeing them so often but there's some pretty rare kanji in some of them. Most like 夏色, 猫又, 姫森 or 大空 are easy as fuck though
