Very much a bunch of new things to shake things up here in /uuu/. As much as Hamdani is excited I'm certain that the magic artifact economy would turn into a bloodbath of Risuners fighting over meager amounts of artifacts that are provided over the careful relations put in place by Hamdani. I expected Risuners to eventually set up ports in /uuu/ as well, I will allow this as Faunatics do not have much development around the beachhead areas and also if they are unintrusively constructed. There's some loose ends here that need to be organized but I'm sure we could develop a story to straighten up how this relationship would look. Commander Seijuna Damus is your woman. There isn't really a concept of nobility in Moriji, but as an officer graduated from a Naval Academy she'd have an education comparable to a Baccalaureate or a Master's degree. She's a demure lady, especially for a Deadbeat woman, but she's very goal-oriented where diplomacy is concerned. Also very pretty, which is part of why she was chosen for this task (whatever it is). Ah, a direct followup to that! Hmm, I think she'd find the Kronie's paranoia silly while jerking her nationalist ego off over how much more hated by the international community the Deadbeats are. Hoshiyomi are a particularly funny case, because Suisei is absolutely beloved in /morig/, but Suisei's thread basically hate us and Mori. She'd do her best to camouflage these thoughts in public though. The shared persecution complex might be a good place to find common ground between the two individuals.

The city itself is sprawling, organically sweeping around a ridge. Right on the northern side of the mountains, the land is flat and very dry. Retired Luknights bring out little heater/humidifiers, where they boil some water, sitting and chatting around it like a campfire, enjoying sugary warm teas. There are no real local specialties here, but the goods are varied and quality. Lollipop tree leaves are wetted to make them flexible, rolled up and redried to make "Lunaito Cigars", sticks of hard, sweet candy, that seems to be a big hit with the deadbeats. I can only hope they'll soon learn they aren't to be smoked, however...

It was my duty to check in and greet the local government. Citrora, Magnus, Cassandra and I had a dinner with them, high quality Lunish fish, with much of the interior meat not yet gummified, yet still juicy and sweet (a favorite of Citrora, I learned). They're all very happy for the extra protection; secure goods benefit the city, after all.

Everything, objectively, is good, nanora, but when I hear the cold winds howl through the streets, I can't help but feel scared for our trip into Nanoramune. For my and the Hime's sake, I will tell myself to have courage. Citrora won't admit it, but facing the arctic schizos isn't something she has finished preparing her mind for. Natural grassland tend to be developed in dry areas with high evaporation - it's listed as steppe (and scrub, depending on how you define it) in the Holdridge life zones system. Basically, trees need a certain amount of water to grow, so when the land is dry enough, trees will be mostly absent, resulting in grasses taking over as the dominant plant. Of course, if it's even drier (and without other sources of water like oasis or river), xenic grass and scrubs will take over, resulting in the hot Mediterranean and semi-arid biomes that dominate many of the (somewhat) more hospitable desert borders.
In /who/'s case, you might have a better chance of finding them further inland, since those places tend to be drier - which also matches where many of the bigger grasslands on Earth (steppes and prairie) are found. Of course, many modern RL grasslands are actually not natural per see, but a result of human deforestation - the British Isles, for example, has been in the process of deforestation since as early as the Romans' first arrival. In a way, the spread of grassland is something human plays a major role in - after all, most of our farmlands are used to grow specific kinds of grass for food - either for ourselves or our food.

Well, /mans/ is actually not too far away from having a Mediterranean climate - the temperature is at around the same range (which makes sense, since both have the climate code of C_a), with the thing differenating between them being when the majority of the rain falls (w means they come in summer, while s means they come in winter). Coupled with the factor that /mans/'s prevailing wind will be southerly in summer and northerly in the winter, it means that /mans/ can have the right rainfall pattern if the wet southern wind in the summer is blocked from a specific part of it - like if there is a mountain ridge to the south. In that case, the majority of rain will be from northern wind during the winter (since the north of /mans/ is still water, what with being an island and all), matching the rainfall pattern for Mediterranean climate.

This is where my main character for this cross cultural thing comes into play. Main Character and Timeline:
Charles Philippe, Marquis de Maumigny

34 Years Old in 1120, Colonel of the 24ème Régiment d’Infanterie de Ligne and overall commander of the initial risu force, which includes an an Artillery Battery, an Engineer Company, A Cavalry Squadron from the 12ème Hussards and a Chasseur Battalion, the 7ème Chasseurs Royaux. Total of 2,800 Men.

Enters into Risu in the Summer after being ordered to build a fort in this area to prevent Watamelon raids and begins construction of Fort Saxe on a hill. Risuners attack because they see this as an invasion and destruction of their lands. Skirmish breaks out but the Risuners are forced back. Risuners continue to raid the Fort as it is built but the Chasseurs counter them easily. Fort is finished in the Fall. A Risuner is captured around this same time and brought to the Marquis. The Marquis knows who Risuners are, given he has grown up in the border lands and hunted game in the Region. The Marquis, doing his best to communicate in a way that the Risuner understands tries to explain to him what is going on by drawing things on a piece of paper.
