As a person who has dealt with 2 kitchen fires. Yes. The fire tends to burn the stove, the range hood and any cabinets you might have above the stove. Also the fire department will be visiting and doing an inspection to see if the house needs to be condemned. Lastly, the smell.... the smell doesn't leave, it stays in the air for a very long time unless you get a remediation company. It's an awful thing to deal with.

You also have the emotional aspect, you DONT KNOW that a fire is a minor fire, some people panic, and it can take a while to recover.
