I am not calling you out on trying to hide the fact that funds are an incredible money sink, I just brought up the returns report because it was the fastest way to give everyone an easy example to look at

Furthermore, the market deflating should not influence your decision at all, if the market deflates your best move is to sell coins because funds don't, if the market inflates your best play is to buy funds because they also go up, the thing is, as long as the person who is managing the fund has even the smallest idea of how to play the game, coins that go up will get sold and coins that go down will be bought, it's a simple as that, prices are not limited by adjustment, you could say that funds are constantly beating the market, and thus, constantly rising in price regardless of what happens, selling most of your coins will always be the perfect play here

I agree with you, the game and its mechanics had been stagnant for 9 month or more (didn't check), new changes and alternatives are a great thing, however, I would like for all alternatives to have an appeal or be viable in comparison to each other, maybe the best player would be one that mixes all of these alternatives into his play style, who knows? What I do know, is that given how funds currently are in the game, they are indeed the best option, they outperform any chuuba, if you really care about climbing and making money you are actively hurting yourself for not using them, and when it's so easy to profit from them, it makes me really mad, you say that you can see people who didn't adapt to funds in the report, but that doesn't matter to me, just because the majority or some of them are not using it doesn't make the problem I have with them go away

>>29929848
That makes more sense, forgot that the males thing happened, and that's even worse too, I hadn't really thought about it, but new funds don't get made that often, do they? This is once again turning into a time played will beat any skill thing, as you say, rich players that have been around since the start of funds could really grow their shares and will constantly make money from them as time goes on, for rising players or future ones they will have to invest in funds that have already grown a lot, heavily limiting their options and profits, it would most likely be quite hard to catch up, making new funds is not an option as, again, like you pointed out, rich players will also buy into these new funds anyway

>>29918058
As I said before, I do not know, the one thing I'm sure of is that fund managers/CEO need a huge buff to at least give back some the retarded amounts of money they print, that should give people an incentive to manage funds and not feel like they are getting robbed, as for how to balance people who invest to them, it really escapes me, I don't really have tons of data like some players of this game, just what I can get from F.U.C.K. and some other outdated things I keep around, I also don't really know how stock market works, my best idea would be to look into real funds and how do they work, where they adapted like an exact match to nasfaq? Does that cause problems? And try to take it from there, but I'm no gamedev, I simply point out exploits and things that make me mad

Nah, you're right for the most part. Sometimes I do a little "extra" like buying more Okayu for mogu, more Aqua for smiles, or more Miko for hoguchi+smiles. Hoguchi's had some really bad MPP on early trades so it kept me from selling certain things until they spiked really high, e.g. some really expensive Fubuki that I only got rid of once she hit $30k. Someone else finally set its auto-trader sometime today after I initially did, maybe hoguchi's back again.

Not entirely true, depending on the amount of liquid at their disposal there might be better or worse trades you could make for each fund, Also if they micromanage throughout the day it could get tiring doing that for multiple funds.
I manage a private and public fund currently and I find it to be quite a bit of work.

Anyways, w/r/t funds in general, one easy way to nerf them quickly would be the obvious tax hike. But they're already "gimped" in the sense that you need +~21% to break even on 10% buy + 10% sell. Anything else, like flat 20% buy, 0% sell, would just be shuffling the deck chairs around on the Titanic, but that example could technically reduce both how overbought coins get and how often it happens - and just move it over to how often they get oversold. Not endorsing any of that, just spitballing.

Real mutual funds presumably pay less in brokerage fees than Joe Sixpack would trying to buy stocks, economy of scale, so that's somewhat accurate. I don't think it's quite as massive a difference as 10% vs. 225% theoretical 50x by a player though. I also don't think it's worth trying to pigeonhole yourself into how "the real thing" works when it comes to nasfaq, if anything because the shares are infinite and can disappear into the void.
Real stocks and by extension, mutual funds, as long as they're traded through individual shares can also undergo stock splits and reverse stock splits.
A stock split is exactly what it sounds like, one share becomes two (or more) and is now worth half (or less) what it used to be - grug pot worth same as before, but have more rocks in it now.
A reverse stock split is the opposite, two shares become one at double the price - grug pot worth same as before but have less rocks in it.

>>29952957
It does get tiresome. Raymond James gets adjusted a lot more often than the others because it has more liquid though, and I don't always trade the same in it vs. the smaller ones. If someone else keeps trading in 桜靴下投資信託 then I'll probably leave that one alone.

I think that the key with funds is to:
1. Provide more incentive for CEOs to run them at the cost of investors, since they are already amazingly good to hold,
2. Somehow make them be able to reap the benefits of economy of scale?

>>29953190
>I also don't think it's worth trying to pigeonhole yourself into how "the real thing" works when it comes to nasfaq, if anything because the shares are infinite and can disappear into the void.
I just mentioned in case it is a 1:1 copy from real life to nasfaq, and maybe that is what causes these problems, I don't think it's a good idea to be a market simulator, the game should borrow stuff from it and adapt it in some way, though that's just my opinion, maybe folks in here like it to be more realistic

The one change I can think of that would maybe fix it, or at least change the approach, is dividends, as of right now funds get everything from coins and stay better than them, if you alter dividends in some way that could change, you would have to start to evaluate which ones are better, say now funds get their dividends reduced by 50%

Which one is better in the long term? Share inflation and smaller payout or coins dividends return? If you go for shares only your liquid returns will begin to stagnate at each payout, your networth would be growing, but you couldn't do anything with it unless you sold, if you sell and plan to reinvest then you would be buying back shares at the current price which makes them worse for inflation, if you go for coins only you are back to old play style with taking a ton of bad deals, maybe you can find a balance between the two in some point, maybe 40% of income for coins and 60% for funds

I just want something to not make them brain-dead easy mode, at least with that there would be some form of decision making and thinking ahead

There is something that has been bothering me for a while now.
How would (you) manage the fact half the playerbase are sheetautismos and the other just buy oshi mindlessly? Making the game more "accessible" would bore to death the autists. While making more complex, engaging mechanics would alienate the casual player, and make the learning curve steeper for newfags. How do you balance this so that it is both engaging and fair to everyone equally? I am not asking for specific solutions here, just some general thoughts and ideas.
Feel free to suggest anything, even if it sounds retarded!

Accessibility is not mutually exclusive with Intricate/Autistic. You lure in the people with accessibilty then uppercut them with the mastery via autism. I found the game in the catalogue and it looked interesting. My first goal was to make a bot since it looked like it'd be good practice. The first step was figuring out what the most optimal strategy was as a bot does nothing more than what you tell it to. So in order to make a good trader bot you first need to trade well yourself. Besides that, as a secondary goal I wanted to reach the top 20. Getting into an oshiboard already looked impossible back then.
I stayed cause the early game was quite engaging, and the thread was fun to read. Back then you could YOLO your entire wallet for some stream and either make riches or go broke. There was an incentive to play, and by that I mean, actually pay attention to the game. Not only did I have to press the buy/sell every 10 minutes but I was constantly making decisions regarding when to stop or start buying/selling, and how to shuffle my limited capital around to maximize profits. I had to check on streams to make sure I bought the right coins and I had to check on the other players' activity to watch out for trend reversals. Interacting with the community/thread was fun as well, there were lots of speculation around and the game felt like a wild west of sorts, waiting to be explored.
Now, if you excuse me, I'll add one question to yours: What made you stop?
Gradually, as coins started to accumulate, your agency as a player started to diminish. You no longer were able to make crazy gambles, nor you needed to. As long as you had 144 of every coin you never had to look for good streams, as you could sell any spike regardless. As people started maxing their trades per day, the intra-day movements in price started to matter less as the graph looked more and more like a straight line, which meant in turn that you could also buy/sell a coin the entire day without much thought. Players started to feel like the game was solved (even though it was not, as the RR proved months later) and stopped speculating as much in the thread. This has only gotten worse.
Eventually, I achieved both of my goals, plus a couple more. Of course, I don't play anymore.
>>29960514
>What would make (you) come back to the game?
Nothing, maybe. There is something that's rarely mentioned whenever one of these discussions is happening and that is... there was a fucking pandemic, remember? I would spend hours clicking buttons and watching streams cause I had the time and could afford doing so. I don't have such luxury anymore. Life must resume.

In any case, I'm happy to see something on-topic in the thread for once. I haven't checked the place in a week so this was a nice surprise.

Literally could not care less about that aspect of it, I just want the mechanics and feeling of actually competing with people back. At least, competition that was engaging and showed results (and I don't mean over months). I miss buying ahead of time for an upcoming stream and making BIG FAT GAINS off of it, I miss fucking up catastrophically and almost bricking my account overnight, and I miss spreading FUD that actually did something. It doesn't have to be a new experience or something that's "not figured out," it just has to be competitive in a way that a new player won't have to spend YEARS to reach the top 10 or maybe even 20. Right now, that's the kind of game we're playing. A boring, snail-paced game that is neither engaging nor rewarding. A game that is all but dead.

Stock autism was something fresh in my mind from the hijinks going on during that time, and figured it would be interesting to see how it would work for vtubers and my oshi. Couldn't play much early days due to the adjustment time but I enjoyed the thread and lurking, but enjoyed the little I could play and figured I could eventually climb the oshiboard considering the close race going there at the time. Time went on, became half decent at game got to top 50 and enjoyed the people around and the chaos, but began feeling like climbing got progressively harder/slower and less interesting, so slowly lost interest besides the oshiboard goal I set for myself. Eventually got it with the death of the guy at the top, and no longer had any reason to play. Managed to force myself to try playing the game after talking with a friend on the game, soon after, mutual funds came out, and I realized how much easier/simpler the game is with it, and put me off of playing the game seriously again. Here I am now, just chilling, waiting till that last milestone which'll come in a long time till I'm finally done with the game.
Still genuinely believe the game can be "saved", but the only way that comes to mind to me now is the r-word since options are a meme.

I agree seasons can fix some problems with the game, It won't encapsulate the initial release, but it will bring a sliver of it back. I personally would like to see the first seasons as a carbon clone, but doing some seasons that spice things up or making trading different, even vastly different would be really big in my opinion. Even if it ends up being broken or exploitable it won't tarnish the integrity of the core game so a lot more can be done.

There was a cool OP that made me read the info page and the game intrigued me. I kept/keep playing because of personal goals and rivals. I was personally really lucky in that whenever something I try to achieve gets fulfilled, some new thing happens. Getting to top 100, competing with my (now dead) rivals up the board, getting on the oshiboard, keeping on the oshiboard, grabbing the crown, beating the thinkpad for the real crown. Topping the RR trading report and finding new rivals to beat. Now it's to make the best fund. I guess the trick is to find your own fun in the game.
>>29917709
>>29951448
I think the best solution is to tax buying fund shares (scaled by amount purchased) and give the tax to fund managers (x% of the total tax collected).1.5% from the fund pool was always a bad call since it hurts the fund's growth, provided basically nothing for managers and shifted the risk/cost from the buyer to the fund and managers. If tax is implemented, the free money part is hurt greatly while also incentivizing people to manage (and manage well since there would be competition and reason not to invest) funds. If the shares are taxed, that slows the profits made by buying large amounts of small funds that exponentially grow. It also stops big funds from being strictly better divs than coins since there would be reason to not blindly buy and dump liquid. Rich players would avoid fund buying to zero out the same way they avoid 10xing every coin to zero out.

Pls no add more tax to the game, its just a sad layer of complexity to the game. It's just "i should do less" mechanic to the game. im not even sure why we added taxes to the game in the first place, inflation?

To punish stupid multicoining? I don't know, I wasn't around back then. I was going to suggest removing the tax on single coin purchases, but it seems like a mechanic that'd be abused by rich players by buying every single coin in the game at all times when they're not spiking

Hello all, trial dev here, with a slightly better explained form of my ramblings in GC.
Been digging through things for a while and might have found the root cause of the issue. Browser local storage is a rough limit of 5MB, and getStats is around 7MB. The stats in that file consist of data points for the graphs. We have two contributions recently that looks to have caused this. Males and activity across the board seems to be way up causing the size of the file to grow and thus your browser clears this every so often I guess, meaning we have to call the api again to get the data back.
Basically every coin we add increases the data by a decent-ish portion, every day that passes increases the data slightly.

The too indepth bit on this, basically the graph updates every 15 unique trades or every 15minutes, whichever is first. On good deals this means we are updating that coin nearly every minute as everyone buys it. On bad deals/coins that didn't change much it seems like it averages to maybe once every 5minutes. So worst case scenario in a day there is up to 1440 data points (of unique numbers), best case its 288. Lets just say an average of this is 500, per coin. For some reason we also mimic this exact behaviour for 'shares in circulation', so its about 1k data per coin, each day. For the rest of the graphs we have just daily totals, so lets say this is about 400 days of data? With 8 graph options and 66 coins this is 211k data points.
For daily data points the total is 1k * 66 coins = 66k data points (remember this is rough work).
How to fix this? A few different ways I guess but easy ones is limit the graph updates to 5-15 minutes for price, every 30min-1hr for circulation, 66k -> 288*48*66=22k. If we keep just the past 6 months of daily data totals and then average the rest to weekly this saves about 1/2 of the 211k.

In the meantime i'm going to try look into preventing the whitescreens until its fixed by maybe giving it 0's if it doesn't have the data? Not fully sure on the best approach, but graphs would probably look broken if you reach the limit, but you could still trade which I assume is most peoples priority.

TLDR males+activity broke nasfaq.. I did ask you guys to vote no...

Why not hard limit the graphs to update every 10~15 minutes? Nobody is staring at the graph waiting for it to shift every minute or so. Unless the graphs being live is something that affects another mechanic, there's no real reason for them to update that frequently.

The reactions during adjustments, spamming BUY to get your trades get through or even happen twice, us all shouting at everything happening be it big or small, haatonsheet, the first aggay, the offtopic posts that somehow still relates to the game, the community just fooling around with everyone, to get in top 50, to get top oshicoin leaderboard, and I really enjoyed the armchair dev arc but also got burned out there because of how it felt like everyone was just shouting to the void.

seasons is unironically the simplest way to bring back interest to the game. No amount of game balance is going to return real genuine interest, I would like to see things like mutual funds fixed, but as I mentioned earlier here >>29962140 what people really want and what they say they want are often 2 different things. I know what the people want and I am not afraid to say it. Seasons are the closest there can be to a fresh restart without a fresh restart, which is why I do agree with others who suggested that seasons are the best possible answer to this.
Its why people keep going back to games like path of exile flooding it at the start of a new season, then it dies after a couple weeks, yet they all come back again for the next season. Having periods of large activity then little activity is better than just little activity.

nta but ill argue that mutual funds already provide what seasons will give, the fresh player experience, with all the fast profit etc of the early game + modifiable starting money. I unironically think mutual fund, with the way it is, is honk answer to people asking for the restart/early game experience. will season revitalise the game? I dont think so especially if its going to be a mutual fund 2.0 but limited time only. step 1: ask honk to delete all mutual fund every quarter of a year
step 2: all participants will start with the same money
step 3: some sheet autist will make a pseudo-leaderboard with agreed upon variables.
step 4: ask devs for a prize for the top 3 at quarter end.

how out of touch do you have to be to genuinely believe that funds are seasons?
This first of all cannot attract new players, because it requires starting money. Actually suggesting that this gives a fresh player experience is absolute bait.
Second of all, they are deleting private funds, I wouldn't call that their answer if they are deleting them.
Third of all, how are seasons mutual funds? Seasons shouldn't have mutual funds, it should be strictly solo trading to promote competition.
Fourth of all, seasons are the answer to NOT fucking up the market, you can fuck up the season market all you want, but you can't fuck up the core market for a multitude of reasons. Seasons go around the faction of people who desire a stagnant leaderboard and feel that they have earned the right to sit at the top because of time invested, rather than their aptitude at trading. It means you can create a crazy new market and way of trading for every season.
Your saying it won't be exciting if its done in seasons, but that just doesn't make any sense. Your asking exactly for what seasons would entail, but without seasons. So why not just take seasons? We must come together, together if we all clamor for seasons we will get them, and they will be glorious. We must cast aside our differences. We need unity.

>aren't attracting new player
yup. people asking for the fresh new player experience are obviously not new players, im looking at the vet side of things
>the rest
sorry i dont understand your point. what do you think seasons would look like then? Mutual funds are just normal trading with friends and less taxes so i envision that seasons are just normal trading but strictly solo and with the same starting money for rankers. Will people EVEN have reasons to play seasons? Will this be just normal trading but official returns report or whatever its called the thing we got every week? It is true that adding seasons will affect nothing, but is it going to be another feature nobody will use and just bloat the site? describe to me what seasons looks like to you

The basics factors of a season that must be fulfilled for them to be successful: Starting line, rewards, different every time, not to long/breaks.
>Starting line
obvious, everyone has a fresh start and now has the motivation to compete with other players
>rewards
this is very important, some people will be happy with just a seasonal leaderboard, but having actual rewards would drive many more to play. What I would personally suggest is top players receive items, with the top 3 players receiving a rare version of their chosen chuuba's hat, on top of this create a hat that everyone in the top 20 will receive as well, perhaps voted on ahead of the season. all of these would be limited with no rerelease, and tradeable on the AH in the core game, for players that REALLY want some monetary gain from seasons. There could of course be other rewards added, but for now I think this idea will suffice in the case of a first season.
>different every time
absolutely crucial, if you just do the same exact thing every time, you will burn out and already know what to do at the start of every season. Here is where the fun part comes in, Make the system different every season. Make volatility fucking insane so everyone starts daytrading against each other, switch it up so only the views from the day of matter and previous days are ignored, hell make a season where you place ALL of the next days buys/sells and they all go through at 9:05am at once instead of trading normally through the day. You can actually do a lot of things, and it doesn't fuck with the core game so nobody can cry about it, they can just say the season isn't for them if they actually hate trading in it.
>not to long/breaks
Seasons need to be fun and exciting, but to prevent player burnout, I think they should be 1 month long, and there should be an equally long break, maybe even a 2 month break. 3 months of competition for example is a bit excessive, and generally the winners would be determined long before then, having a break gives players a breath of fresh air, and not being pressured to ALWAYS play the game is a good thing.

>> No.30057870

Options have supposedly been in the works for over a year
God knows how long it took them to get funds out
Then it was an entire month to put out a barely functional fund trader that was quite literally a copy from zhonkbot (and it didn't work properly)
I'm thinking we will see seasons in about a year if they start working on them now, that does not account for all the broken shit that will happen just like funds release of course, so proper seasons in 1.5 years, I wonder if nasfaq will be alive

Having one that was heavily influenced by RNG (or in this case you could even consider it skill if someone were to tally up the average amount of times a Holo ID streams minecraft for the past few weeks for example) could be very fun.

Im trying to figure out if what you want is the competition that seasons will bring or the modifications devs can do that is also possible in normal trading. The only problem that i have with seasons is that it might struck the disease that we call balancing which happens in every other games that got seasons on it, why? because you introduced rewards. And players want a fair chance of getting that shiny rewards. Why do the effort on doing something temporary if you dont have the fair chance of winning?
Also consider this:
>everyone starts daytrading against each other
to
>Bots starts daytrading against each other
another reason to balance the fuck out of seasons which will inevitably murder fun out of it.

Just added a few mechanics changes to the funds as I mentioned earlier this week. Those changes include:
Increase fund multicoin to 100, add incremental tax up to 50% above 50
Allow CEO to set fund share fee and the dividend distribution
Fix fund autotrader step quantity being invisible in light mode
Removed private fund ability to sell coins to prevent abuse

Seasons will do nothing to help. Anyone suggesting these sort of things clearly don't think ahead at all. A seasonal system will work sure, for the very first one and partially for the second one. But nasfaq isn't an fps or those type of games. Seasons isn't going to bring people back after the very first few. This isn't the sort of game that a "season" can make people regain an interest in the gameplay loop.

Equally important thing is the implication that older players care about ranking anymore. I feel like people who make this suggestion either are new or one of the very few older players who actually still care about ranking. Even if you add this shit in most of us aren't going to give a fuck. We have already gotten the thrills back in the day and won't get it from some new board. Might get some thrills on the first instance and then partially the second but after that there will be no thrills.

You are simplifying player retention way too much.

Nothing, its just another game in my list of daily games to look at. Not the answer you are looking for? That's because most people probably went into the game not wanting anything out of it. Literally half the fun was the thread AND the broken nature of the game. The thread was active and fun to participate in and read. But the game was not stable in anyway and had constant up and downs that made it existing. When most older players think of the game being fresh their perspective of "fresh player" isn't going to be grinding their way up from nothing it is also going to be the excitement the thread generated. Do you really think you can actually recreate that experience and /quality/? Nasfaq is too stable to ever be able to remake what it once was and the devs are also clearly too busy to be able to make lots of active changes like they used to. In-fact, the existence of the gc means you can never ever recreate similar speed, quality, excitement etc. The thread was the lifeblood of the game and gc kills that so you can never give the game similar amount of life again.

You are trying to fix a retention problem but are looking at it like you can just throw toys at people and suddenly make them care. Those people you are throwing shit at are already satisfied with the game. Satisfied being an important keyword here. How can you engage and retain people who are already satisfied with what they've had and done? Some new funny leaderboards isn't going to make these people ever care and new players will eventually become the same. People will get bored of the gameplay loop and you can't make them interested in it again with some quirky toys that entertain you for like 5 minutes.

It's not the case for everyone, but a few of the anons arguing here don't seem to play the game anymore, or are getting tired of it. I think that when they say they don't want a certain change, what they mean is "It wouldn't make me play again"

>> No.30090221

If that's the case, then, why not give the game a chance to change? Whatever happens they will still be upset. If the game doesn't change, they're upset that it's dead or is tiring. If a change does happen, they will be upset because, well, a change happened, and they didn't like it or didn't want to adapt to the change. They probably don't notice it or do, but their voices matter a lot because of them being oldfags and rich, and that they're the ones holding back honk on experimenting on his game.

>>30089105
In my case I wasn't arguing no change I was arguing don't just do random shit in hopes something works and actually fucking think about the changes. Think about their impact, short term effects, long term effects, etc. Random pointless changes wastes dev time and some of the things might have a negative response from some players and thus losing players.

>>30090221

>> No.30090645

>>30090342
>Think about their impact, short term effects, long term effects, etc.
I think it's almost impossible to be sure about these impacts as long as the devs or honk don't try to implement new changes. They're still just rookie game devs. They need to implement a change first to know if the change is doing good or if it's doing bad. They can always just take that change back and reason it as "trying a new feature" if the players are really upset about it or doesn't want to welcome it.

Having the idea of change happening = mass murdering oldfags in itself is very wrong, and is exactly why honk is holding himself back or is very scared of experimenting.

Damn I'm late when doomposting was happening. I will still do it anyway.
The thread and game were bound to go like this; rather, it's amazing we're still alive. The lack of updates, even if an update do come it's just the exact same thing as already existing feature, honk trying to force the game to be just a simple proper stock game, the lack of events, even if we do get one it's just items, simply nothing fun happening in the game and honk always being disconnected with what the users from the thread are saying is probably the nail in the coffin. The last one is more apparent during armchair dev arc and when a dev showed a note and the notes don't really go that far. Not to mention the upcoming updates they tell us takes 6 months minimum to get implemented just to turn out it's a recycled feature made into a new one.
