Honestly, I'm surprised that vtubing is getting bigger and bigger than before. Everyone's numbers are increasing every year, and there's more references of vtubers in animes now. I just watched isekai ojisan and I didn't think they'd reference virtual youtubers. Now, there's actors, actresses and celebrities who watch this kind of stuff like it's normal. From what I see Nijisanji is still barely on the top if you only count JP market, although VSPO is eroding some of that due to fps autism. Flooding the market isn't even inherently bad since making your brand synonymous with your medium is the goal. Netflix is(was) synonymous to subscription based streaming service, not because they were showing kino level shows but because they showed many shows that were good enough. They also had Iinchou who is basically Salome but actually a way better entertainer and that's not a slight at Salome either since I view Iinchou very highly. Only current Pekora can probably rival her. Even the move to live2d was a historical moment because it redefined what it meant to be a vtuber and allowed smaller startups like Tsunderia, PC and Kawaii to exist because they sure as hell weren't going to be able to afford Ai's set up. Really, the reason for Nijisanji falling to Hololive isn't even entirely their fault. No one could have predicted that COVID was going to be a thing. If Hololive never existed, the industry would be following the Nijisanji model which would be multiple debuts in a year with CoEd generations.
