Wasn't this supposed to be Dragon Quest 3 but Cover didn't actually get or bother to get the permissions? I wouldn't be so hard on Axel about it at this point because he probably had to choose an alternative last minute and Cover's pool of permissible games might be shit for him right now. JP XBC3 is probably one of the fresher permissions they got and Axel decided to give it a go.

I think once he gets more time to consider what he wants it may get better. Maybe chat and brainstorm with some close buds about he wants. He managed to talk a lot more in this stream than the Chivalry one, so that's a pretty good improvement already, and he was self conscious of this. He leaned a bit too much into reacting to what was happening on screen instead of light zatsu at first, but it did start to turn around into showing more of his personality and telling his stories during more calm moments, but the stream had to end at that point. Looking forward to more.

I feel like Axel is at his best when he's just going on about the things he's into. Which, you know, could apply to any chuuba, but he should lean more into it, maybe. Something like a "ranking the FF games" stream, perhaps? It's just zatsu in disguise, but about a subject he has knowledge on, from a unique perspective among his audience (can play the original versions without the localizer middle man) and it's a long series that followed him throughout his life most likely, so he could put some personal stories about how life was at the time he played each game, like he mentioned FF14 being dropped for having no friends, or in the zatsu him not being able to remember western names for characters because he played them in japanese. This kind of stuff is endearing, and has a bigger potential audience than "people who care enough to watch a new JRPG but not enough to not want spoilers".

He could still play his types of games on stream just fine, but I feel like people with his interests should also focus on appealing to those who shared their same past experiences, which is a much bigger audience than people who are interested in watching a full JRPG on stream. They do English only streams sometimes and they will often talk to the kaigai nikis in the chat like Rio and Aruran. But sadly none of them are doing a regular English only stream series if that's what you are looking for, maybe except Uyu's English Duolingo but he hasn't done it for a while.
That said, If you are willing to watch other stars content. I find stars collab streams are pretty fun (like the recent gartic phone collab) and you don't really need to watch Japanese to enjoy especially if you know the game.
You can just pick and choose what you like to watch, the JPstars dabble in a lot of content so I'm willing to bet there's something you will like. The key thing here is that you are willing to give them a chance, that's all.
