I've only ever watched Nijisanji since then, but what's so great about Hololive? Do they have any cool vtubers like Pomu? Any good streams you guys would recommend?

Hololive has no one like Pomu, they're pretty much vtubers on kiddie wheels for GFE fags. You might enjoy them playing a specific game from time to time but I find it impossible to consistently watch any of the ones that I've tried. Vtubing is such a huge hobby that you're quite literally not losing anything by never touching Hololive. Try Phase Connect instead or Selen.

Another thing I like to recommend is just searching for a game you like + hololive (or nijisanji, or just vtuber) and see if anyone has played it.

Right now Pomu is better than literally every HoloEN, so you're out of luck unless you know japanese or is satisfied with clips.
HoloJP is a whole different ballpark, however. There are many different talents that are straight up better than her and extremely entertaining even if you can't understand them at all, but not everyone has the patience to deal with the language barrier.

Hololive is like Apple, everyone is locked in a walled garden to preserve "quality". They all used used to stream a lot, but all their talents are now mostly burnt out and with an exception of a few of them stream only a few days a week at most.

Former Holofag here. The only ones on the HoloPro side worth noting that offer something you can't find somewhere else easily are Suisei for her top tier original songs (and even there you can just listen to her music and ignore everything else about her), and Vesper for his EN dadtuber zatsudan energy. Also if you're learning Japanese and want listening practice, then Okayu is an great place to start because she speaks really clearly and slowly.

Other than those three though you can just stick to vtubers in Nijisanji or other (non-Holo) companies/indies and you're totally good. Even if you've only ever watched Nijisanji EN, they collab often enough with other branches and outsiders that you already have an idea of what other vtubers are like, which means you're already much better prepped to get into vtubers outside your comfort zone than the average holofag is.

They're basically idols. They have to maintain a clean seiso image and can't swear or banter as much as the Nijis can. They also lack friendship. They're higher viewed, and higher paid than the Nijis. But that's mostly because they were first-to-market in the EN sphere.

Other than that, they are basically burned out and tired, and fading slowly in popularity

I've watched multiple chuubas from indies to small corpos to the big three and no one in nijiEN was interesting enough for me to watch repeatedly except for Petra. And yes, I've watched true 2views, males, jps, etc too. NijiEN turns me off just like some indie circles because of their collab frequency, leaving little room for viewers to interact or just enjoy the streamer. Petra is an exception because of her collabs are curtailed to a specific list of people that barely grow larger as the EN branch grows, and thus you know what to expect.

For interesting topics I wouldn't bother with corpos in general, not even small corpos. All you're going to get are lukewarm topics about nothing in particular, or worse parrot /vt/ opinions for brownie points. I'd rather have 2views talk about Uncle Ted or Orsha violations without manager breathing down their necks.

Hololive only has a few actually entertaining streamers (who are very entertaining, don't get me wrong). The rest, however, either make up for their lack of entertaining streams properly by being good at singing, video production, skilled gameplay, etc. (which is respectable), or by pushing the GFE angle to suck in lonely men.
