DMC's default controls are okay for a casual playthrough on Human/Devil Hunter, but if you want to do any special tech with reliability, you need to at bare minimum get Gun and Melee on different fingers. Most Nero players swap Exceed (L2) and Gun (Square) because putting Melee and Exceed next to each other is more to the rhythm of Exceed's input requirements.

V is literally optimized to spam Nightmare all the time.
