Hololive has shitty rigging and their 2D program is also kind of low-quality in comparison to Vtube Studio, which is legitimately at the point where now people can pin Live2D accessories onto their model.
Cover are catching up, but they're doing it way too slowly (their 2D models now look like 2D models from a couple years ago, and they finally added support to items in scenes which Vtube Studio had for a while).

Holo prob isnt upgrading their rigging like this as they feel like they dont need to spend that much on this( no pressure for it). Other company see this and hit it harder, they want an edge. If attention comes to these rigs and its clear people want more of em, then we will see more of em. Thats a positive side of competition.

Because VShojo operates on indie sensibilities. If a VShojo wants to upgrade their model it's an investment into their own brand and identity, so they're willing to spend more to get a better final result. Holos and Nijis don't do that because it only strengthens something they don't own and will be taken away from them if they ever leave, so they stick with what they're given by default.

Basically it's expensive + time consuming to get high end stuff, and VShojo being such big names mean they can afford top tier models. Time and money that the big 2 don't want to spend because quality doesn't matter to the unwashed masses. Quality over quantity. VSJP picked up 2 solid chubas, while Niji and Holo were more of an incubator and testing ground for struggling 2views to get noticed. The fact that a lot of /vt/ only heard about those two from their Holo days is exactly the point. Not every chuba is guaranteed to become a /vt/ favorite, and the reputation of both Niji and Holo has really taken a hit due to putting guys and girls under the same roof like a public school, but it was a chance for the chubas who got in to bring their best and hope to be well received.

With that said, it's not exactly necessary to go the Holo/Niji route. Vshoujo's a harem of egirls being pimped out by a backpack merchant. Now they have kson and Nazuna, and are expanding overseas. It just goes to show that being a chuba is ultimately about being enterprising, figuring out your niche (aka whatever you're good at), wrangling together a collab network to form an expanded universe that's neither too big nor too small, and...riding the coattails of whichever one of you breaks out as the ensemble dark horse. Rather than being a bootleg, the goal would be to figure out what others do right, adapt it to your own abilities, and become the best chuba you can.

Nazuna is one of the patron saints of this, having supposedly tailored her character around what her fans wanted, while also tailoring her persona to be the cute anime pettan tenshi gf version of herself that people liked. Rather than being a mere off brand version of another chuba, she's crafted herself as the one and only irreplaceable her. That iconicism is her strength, and it's what I believe chubas should be striving for.
