Not exactly - China has been in decline for centuries by the time UK started selling opium to China (a drug that has been circulating in China for a millennium at that point). If we have to pin China's decline on a single cause, it would be the Mongol invasion (as it also did to many parts of Central Asia and Middle East), or the fact that neither Ming nor Qing dynasties fixed Yuan's administrative system (and made the effort stick).
Of course, it's always easier and more politically convenient to blame the foreigners (who admittedly were often pretty lacking in terms of morality when dealing with China and other "primitive" people) for their decline. It also helps that the idea of a sick people in need of "self-improvement" also suited the ideology of some of the more prominent thinkers of the time - Liang Qichao is particularly notable for his tendency to blend Eugenics into his own modernisation narrative.

Not an economic crisis, but this bloodbath of a war they are in with Pomerlane is diluting quality (which also gets built from battle, double edged sword.) They are still very much one of the best in the world, "Royal Dragoons" (Cavalry) in particular are feared. Army Quality decreases in large wars but also goes up over time. it's an odd complex.

Hmmm.. haven't given that much thought. The society places the King as the Divine Ruler who protects them from slavery and the King has to deal with his nobles, which Magnus has been successful with. I've made them a society that focuses on martial abilities as integral so perhaps there is some sectarianism between the military and other sects.

As for Dragons in combat roles, I absolutely refuse to consider this, not because it wouldnt be fun but because there is no proper way to balance it within my story and it would certainly screw over a bunch of writing. I can make the case that having cannon balls fired at them, even if they don't hit them scares them away, or getting hit with musketry does the same. But the opposite could also be said. Instead, what I have developed is essentially the Dragoons having "Dragon's Breath" as weapons, which is basically primative flamethrowers. Dragons overall would just mess up my battles because its another factor that I have to take into account and honestly, Famelira should have them too then and Pomudachi have some other fantasy thing. It just adds up to make something that is simple for me to write and for everyone to understand more complex that it needs to be. I'd rather focus on what I am good at.

Also, hard to imagine this happening in the future because that raises the question of why not in the past. I'm not a fan of handwaving things personally.

the lack of an ability to use abstraction isn't a sign of hyper-logical thinking. if you can solve barely complex mathematical problems in your head without using blocks you are doing abstraction to a degree. if you can think of a process across it's different stages without needing to see every stage of progression right in front of you, you should be able to imagine most of the concepts of chuubanite without much difficulty.

Can't speak for all anons who contribute for /who/ but the only reason why I don't really deal with chuubanite is that I don't have many ideas on how to make it unique. The winged mutation was shelves because it screws with biology and the dazzler idea was a little too complex even though I do think it can work. There were a couple of proposals but they also have some problems. One problem I have personally is that "civilisation" is such a grand concept I don't really know where to begin. Well we are reworking the system right now so I'll wait. But chuubanite still wouldn't be central to /who/ both because it's a little too late for that and it doesn't fit with our aesthetic that much.

Phone posting on someone else's phone so I don't have my usual filenames. Dragoons not having combat dragons in Pomerlane's time but having them in the future is easily explained. Dragoons simply need to be in the process of domesticating them at the moment. I don't have context for this conversation, but I assume there are many different species of dragons? While some may already be domesticated, those breeds may all be unsuitable for combat -- too small, too timid, etc. Domesticating animals is a process that requires a concerted effort by a society as a whole over many, many generations, and it's a process that takes even longer for predators. It's not hard to believe that society as a whole only recently got to the point where Dragoons have the infrastructure necessary to even begin such a process for dragons large and powerful enough to be used in combat. This works out well for balancing reasons anyways, since dragons are kind of like small fighter jets and it would fuck things for Dragoons to already have a bunch of them in their army.

I'm still attached to an idea I had in the old /haha/ lore that there would be different factions for the same religion, one being more radical and another more conservative.

I thought that it was unfair, so what about making them extremely sensitive loud noises? So that they would be nowhere near the battles? Whatever works for you though, I'm fine with not adding that.

Problem is this is 10 years behind current time and the war is going to make this worse for them. you have some points but I am leaning towards being hard against this as of now for several reasons, including that it is overcomplicating things long term when I haven't even got there yet. I will write more later when my brain is free but it causes a lot of problems.

I'm a sucker for ancient asian history and this is partially true, albeit a bit wrong. What replaced the Song Dynasty in terms of bureaucracy was a more effecient administrative system that took into account all of the different people in China (Manchus, Han, Hui, Tibetans). Kublai was smart in placing a great emphasis on religion in order to stabilize China and to appease the intellectuals. This is a double edged sword however; since the Yuan is directly managed by the Mongols, the slightest weakness in the Mongol Empire quickly crumbles the Yuan.
China's problems from the 19th century, going as far as in the 20th century, comes from the great regionalism and corruption coming from the government. The Ming Dynasty was responsable for managing an increasingly hostile population due to their lack of interest to the public, and when a competitor arrived, the people were sure to follow them. That's why with even Mongol and Japanese support, the Ming fell.
The Qing didn't fare much different from the Ming, only that they were carved by the western powers and went through multiple wars and civil conflicts, making them face an even larger legitimacy crisis never seen in China.

Well. I really did not imagine that this trip could not be any more exciting. These guys once we landed and disembarked from the pinisi told us that we are to be some sort of art model. They asked for me and a bunch of the crew to be drawn...naked! IM GONNA BE A SUPERSTAR HOLY SHIT!
Not to mention some of the people here are made of metal. Like what the actual heck am I looking at and how is this possible? I know armor exists but metal people entirely? I bet the luknights would get a kick out of this. Actually I kind of want to show off these metal guys to our friends just to see their reactions.

Seriously though what the fuck is with this proposal though. Not that I am against it in any way, in fact I am REALLY quite excited to spend hours naked in front of a bunch of horny boys. Hell I hope they spread that art all across their nation just so I can become super famous. It will probably be a mystery to me but I never understood the idea of staring at someone in a picture. I'm right here and if these young boys want me to be their first I would just love to show them the ways of exchanging nuts. It's my duty as a risuner representative to exchange our beautiful culture after all. I could not think of any way this could go better. The retro reich is paradise so far.

Oh my god they really love us. All the people have been so friendly so far. And they look so COOL! They all have such pretty clothing and HOLY FUCKING ACTUAL FUCK WHAT IS THAT SEXY GEM! ITS SO PRETTY I NEED TO HAVE ALL OF IT!
I guess they call it amethyst and its something that they find here in decent quantities. Since gems are one of the most important things that the higher ranking risuners want I decided that this would be the perfect thing to primarily trade for. That and their weaponry. They do have some guns which would be super useful. Not to mention I like old stuff and what a convenient excuse for indulging in my nerdy love for relics.
We are currently heading to the big castle. I guess we are gonna discuss a few things over there? I don't know exactly what but I can't wait. Everything has been simply perfect so far.

As one of those writers, my favourite method of using chuubanite/vtubium magic in a balanced way is what I consider as 'mundane application'
Since /vt/ is a low fantasy world then magic itself is used to supplement the norm, not as a crutch. A magic-punk if you will.
Some of my examples
- a VSPO adventuress using a vtubium-infused scope
- the psychic communicators
- swords made of chuubanite alloy
- vtubium as a shield battery
- ships using a simple vtubium powered radar
- dipping arrows in liquid vtubium making them into makeshift anti-armor shells
- vtubium of sci-fi/space vbtubers can allow for limited antigravity

Problem is you are detected no matter what. Thats the whole issue. Being able to listen in on acoustic waves to get an approximate location or general direction of a ship is a major tech problem whether it is natural or magic. It gives raiders and hunter killer groups such a major advantage in an era where ships use sails that its impossible to counter effectively.

I have never been on a frigate sailing on the open seas before but I'd imagine the noise from your own ship and the minimal noise produced by sailing ships it would means that for catching a lone ship or flotilla in the open ocean would be neigh impossible. /who/ is supposed to have explosive shells too. But it's only because we have more advanced metallurgy (literally almost a century ahead than the lower end of modern Vitubia nations). Alice's explosive shells can be limited by the relatively poor metallurgy of /2434/. Even though the shell is strong enough to withstand the impact most of the time they are generally too thick to produce too much of a boom. The fuse can also be a more poor quality one, with a relatively high failure rate of 15%(?). The last thing is just the general make and quality of the cannons. If /2434/ still don't have a widespread system of standardized artillery then it would limit what kinds of ships can use the shells.
