So what's really the advantage on being with a corpo anyways?

I thought independence was way more beneficial

>> No.28257989

The corpo is the reason you even know and care about your OP picture, anon.

Imagine this. You are Good Smile Company product manager. You want to do partnership to make new Nendroid. You saw this 1M vtuber that are fairly popular, but nobody can vouch for her. Nobody can ensure that she will not implode within a month or so and stranded the IP rights of her lookalike, and therefore the product. Product development is on the span of months, and they are taking pre-orders to help finance at least part of it so if they are cancelled, then they are fucked. Just see Rushia's case, all her products that are currently in development still go ahead because her IP rights belong to Cover, even though it will never be re-issued.

That's just one example. Basically without you being corpo AKA bound by the rules they are playing in, there is no guarantee for the other side that she will not suddenly disappear and the other side cannot have recourse. No matter how much you want to trust "her character", its still quite a leap. Especially when she might even need to negotiate with someone who don't know who is she. 1M subs are big, but its still puddle compared to say, Pewdiepie.

Basically being part of a corpo gives her sort of legitimacy. She can now put her business card as "I'm Kson from Vshojo" compared to "I'm Kson"

More credible, higher income, more supports (yes, even as bad as /vt/ made them out to be, Holo and Niji supports for their members are way better than what indies get) and usually, more viewers

In theory, corpos can handle behind-the-scenes stuff.
Business connections, various protections like legal stuff, financial support, legally required benefits, all that stuff.

I say in theory because they can still fuck up. (See: Activ8)

Branding especially in this industry is important. If you want a future in the larger entertainment industry (particulary in Japan), corporate is really your only chance to break into the industry. Advertisers prefer to deal with corporations instead of individual talent, plus you can pull a salary even when you're not working.

/vt/ just doesn't understand, you can have opinions about vshojo, you might like them or don't, but in the end they are corporation, and Japs especially like to make deals with corpo rather than individual, like you said brand is all, it's easier to move on entertainment industry if you are backed by corpo, and vshojo model just suits her, she can do whatever she wants and if she wants corporate backing she has it.

Pros of being independent: No rules, no one to answer to (Outside of the platform itself/the law), greater creative freedom, get to own your character/creations, get full profits from your business

Pros of being with a corporation: Stability, support network, access to greater resources, and as >>28258001 said, legitimacy. Even in independent minded societies, people would rather deal with a group with an established reputation than an independent, and this likely goes double for Japan.

Both have their cons of course, but everything is going to have a trade off. If you like Kson then I would say I'm sure she weighed her decision carefully and chose whichever was best for her.

Kson tried to merch, failed, hired a manager to do the paperwork and only then everything worked out; people that play video games for a living aren't smart to run a business alone.

I would argue she made an incredible deal then. Having a corporate partnership to access resources and have staff/legal teams handle things for you AND getting to keep ownership of your IP and any money you make in the backend is HUGE. There's a reason Michael Jackson died with a $500 million estate and George Lucas was able to sell Star Wars for billions while most of their contemporaries went broke. They owned the rights to their respective IPs, and merchandising residuals alone was making Lucas rich. While not on the same level, money wise, Kson probably has a lot more leverage in her relationship with Vshojo since she can always threaten to take her IP and walk.

No. They allowed people to cancel orders and offered people refunds if they wanted them. It wasn't just Rushia merch, they made this offer for people who had already bought tickets for 3rd fes too IIRC.

thats pretty much what Vshojo is offering to them

and as far we know Vshojo is free to do anything including involvement themselves in alot of drama without the company interfering

Vshojo isn't the same kind of corporation, they still own their shit and don't have a fuckton of rules to follow, plus they can get sponsorships and merch rights easier.
