I know it's cope, but I could actually see Sana pulling off a return one day, especially if her back improved. She's leaving on the best terms possible right now and I don't think Yagoo will leave the door closed for her.

Honestly, I think a lot of this will come down to Sana rethinking how streaming fits with her current lifestyle. The way Sana treated her channel up to this point made working with the back injury too hard. She put all of her emphasis on energetic long gaming streams totally separate from her work, and rarely short or relaxing streams that were more part of her daily routine. If she had approached streaming and social media in a way that felt closer to her work schedule, I think she'd be doing fine now.

Even this aggressive collab schedule can hopefully show her what she can manage on a short timeframe. She knows she can trust friends to help her carry the load, and not allow herself enough time to sink back into art hermit mode.

I also empathize with the types of goals she set for herself as an idol, wanting to prove to herself that she's more than a one-trick pony. I'm not sure if there will be other similar opportunities for her to branch into those areas again though (like being able to do a song with Snail House or design goofy personalized merch with a Corpo's full support). If she still holds on to some of those personal goals later on, and reimagines how streaming works with her life, Holo will still be one of the closest doors within reach for her. With a different mindset, it would be very practical for her to consider coming back for another try.

Another key thing is knowing that she's not forgotten either. I really hope Council fanartists still include Sana somewhere, just to rub it in while she lurks and pretends to be invisible.

Sana is having a surgery later this month, sometime during the 10-day gap. It will put her out of commision for a few months.

Given that Sana was already struggling to maintain a stable stream schedule due to her back problems and that she does not need Hololive to keep her financial status afloat, she decided to graduate.
The date of the surgery was scheduled earlier than expected and couldn't be moved. They wished to at least make it to 1 year anniversary, but they decided to settle for July.

The reason why they ended up settling for a date so close to the surgery date was because they wanted to finish the smol 3D models, a project that was originally planned for the 1st Anniversary. There might've been some communication fuck-ups resulting in a late date due to Cover probably outsourcing the project to 3rd parties again. Could've been the case with Astrogirl too. HoloEN males were in the making at the time, so the EN Cover branch had a lot of things to handle.

The graduation stream will be prerecorded, taking the inspiration from Coco's, as Sana won't be able to attend it live. Probably some stuffs with her gen and Myth and some clips of most memorable moments from her short career. Sana will try to leave Hololive on the best terms possible. She enjoyed her time in the community and genuinely liked streaming, this is why she wants to leave the company with grace and, of course, to secure her return in 2023.

Cover knows part of the reason she's leaving is due to health and other work obligations to companies just as stingy about deliveries as they are, if not moreso. So a year from now she'll have the same industry clout that likely appealed to them about her in the first place, and they'd only be set to make money with her back on. Given that she's done no damage to the brand, or broken NDA, it would be objectively lower risk to bring her back than the risks they take from hiring new talent. Corpos love low-risk.

I doubt they would renew her under the same terms though. I could see them signing her for cameos/events/art but not actually reviving her channel until they know she's made streaming for them a higher priority than before.

The issue with this is that there is no sign this is related, at least directly, to her injury. She hasn't brought it up in months now including after multiple 10+ hour long streaming sessions and she will still be streaming nearly every day, often multiple times per day, until her graduation. This just isn't the streaming schedule of someone who is running into health related issues.

The simpler explanation is that she is running into issues meeting her contractual obligations so she is forced to make a decision about which contract to keep and which to let go and she has decided to let Hololive slide, which is understandable when you know about her other work and the fact that she is literally the lowest performing Holo in the entire corporation.

Many contracts have termination or exit clause where if one party or the other wants to terminate under certain conditions with no reprocussions then they can. Sana must have talked to her laywer about enacting an exit clause to end her contract with Cover with as little damage as possible. Possibly due to an injury or declining health clause. Either way Sana wanted a way out before her current contract ended and she found it. Fortunately Sana did not have to resort to sueing Cover to leave.

Saku's a special case but keep in mind Hololive is ostensibly an "idol agency" and idol graduation is understood to be reversible. In the end it's gonna come down to what the talent wants so the only thing stopping Sana from coming back is Sana. Though I can't think of any other vtuber graduation that happened partially because of a recoverable injury, so if she did end up coming back it would be a pretty special case as well.

Personally I like the surgery rrat the best out of all of the rrats that have come out. Had she been a stronger breadwinner then maybe then she could've taken a leave of absence, but due to her numbers both her and Cover knew they couldn't/didn't want to suspend her contract for her eventual return. Instead of fulfilling the rest of her contract, which she wouldn't be able to do if she had surgery planned, both Cover and her made an agreement to break the contract. There was probably much debate behind the scenes, and if what I read about Jap corpo culture then they wouldn't be willing to continue her contract and resorted to finding the excuses they could for terminating her without making it so obvious that Cover could be sued for trying to let go of a sick employee. So stuck between a rock and a hard place, Sana accepted an offer to graduate instead of being bullied and arguing with cover about medical leave.
Now that does mean out of all the graduates, she probably would have to door open the widest, but Cover wouldn't be too open to it without some sort of "proof" that she could reach her old number if not more before signing her back. A lot of shit happened behind closed doors, and I imagine from her western view, Sana may not be satisfied with the way she was treated during this process, leading her to feel upset about the decision. It could also be why all the other vtubers are very sad because they can sympathize with her decision. But in the end, it probably was the best choice she could've made with the cards she was dealt.

Here's to her coming back for special events tho, I don't see a reason why Cover wouldn't milk that cash cow once Sana recovers from surgery. They have the asset already, and the other girls probably have enough say to convince management to make it happen.
