Emotionally charged, plenty of tribute and massive events, fanart exhibitions, everyone writing letters and eulogies praising the deceased and elaborating on how they were the most important person in their lives, everyone crying their fucking eyes out. The graduation of Coco was literally and unironically treated as if she was going to die - Kiryu Coco, the dragon we've formed so much memories and experiences with, is GONE. Maybe I'm a fucking retard or just not part of the anime/streamer world in a way that would make it make sense, but the concept of "graduation" seems to be something carried over from the Japanese idol community where everything about the language and presentation has to be scrubbed and sanitized to be the most friendly possible and make it seem like the idols are not just normal people doing a normal entertainment job, but are in fact this special class of person that has these special terms for what they do.

So the idea of calling quitting/retiring/being fired "graduation" always just smacked of useless sanitizing. Maybe too many people buy into the character fantasy, so the "graduation" is this super impactful deal, but you literally are aware these aren't fictional magical idols, these are just normal people streaming on the internet. Most "idols" had a shelf life of a few years before they quit or moved on or were replaced, and streamers aren't any different.

Obviously if someone quits from one thing, they're not dead. The person still exists and they're going to keep doing shit, whether that ruins your fantasy or not.

The character did "die" in the sense that we'll basically never see her again. The VA can still go around and do stuff. This is like when Tony Stark died, he died for all the marvel cinematic universe. Robert DJ is still acting but he's not really "Tony Stark" anymore.

For me, the Coco event stung because Cover spent 8 months blanking her and denying her EN collabs, when it was something both sides clearly wanted. She finally got the go ahead, only to discover... Graduation in 3 weeks.

And I still miss what Coco brought. The fact that nobody has regularly revived Asacoco or Meme review shows what a big hole she left.
