The bots were semi-harmless before. Just some porn website ads but this year people started using them as targeted attacks against channels to abuse youtubes automatic ban system.
The bots use banned words like "fuck sex pussy" in the name and use child pornography in the avatars to take down channels since the image will show on the screen, NFT spam would also get you banned.

Most of the early attacks on streamers were to see if they could then use it to attack political channels, iirc. Of course, now that people know it works anyone with enough time to set up the bots can do it.
