Why? What's the appeal? Most the time you're literally just watching some egirl play video games. Why not just watch anime instead of someone pretending to be anime?

Because vtuber fans are mentally ill, just like the vtubers themselves. They're streamers but use an anime avatar to hide their faces due to insecurities or to be "lolsorandum", the later usually reveals their irl face anyways. The fans are your usual kind of retarded streamer fan but holofags are a special kind of retarded that genuinely believes their virtual whores are pure virgins and act the same both irl and on streams, in fact a former vtuber from their company made fun of that fact and she was called a traitor, only to be proven right recently (see "do you rele beleb et").
