As a guy who's not very into vtubers, but found myself gravitate towards them, let me try to give an outside opinion on it.
I can't buy into the personas the other groups put up. They feel like an act, which is what they are and is frankly what you should expect from vtubers, but it's still off-putting to me. VShojo seems more like people just being themselves which I prefer, though some of them I think lean too hard in the opposite direction and are overly vulgar because it drives sales or whatever.

I liked Nyanners back in the old days when she made edgy parody songs. Later I occasionally watched her on Twitch, but didn't got that interested until she got an avatar and started doing more elaborate bits. She is funny and I like that sort of humor that's charged by irony and self-depreciation. I started watching Vei because of Pink Cat, and she is even more irony poisoned to the point of absurdity. Mousey I liked immediately because of her singing in Spanish, which is pretty relatable.

Before getting into VShojo my experience with VTubers was mostly Kizuna and watching Hololive clips and highlights that YouTube recommended. Now after a few months I also watch streams from Hololive, Nijisanji, and some indies. It's feels more like an emotional dependency since I haven't recovered from the lockdowns.

Also I don't watch vtubers for their models, that's just intially how I found the medium, I use vtubers like a podcast, and I find Vshojo doesn't really come off like people trying to pretend to be characters, but just a bunch of dumbasses having fun, and it's easy listening when I'm doing things and if I'm doing absolutely nothing, I'll watch it too. Mouse in particular is a great watch and listen and her collabs with Connor tend to be a lot of fun. Her collabs in general are a lot of fun because she's an easygoing person who wants to get along with everyone.

Management has almost no say in what they do at all. They also take none of their money at all. For instance, the only money Vshojo as an "agency" makes iirc is from merchandise and sponsorships. Vshojo also doesn't own anything, it all belongs to the girls individually, so if any of them were to split, they'd take all their assets with them, models, art, etc. However their merch does very well, as do their sponsorships, so it's worked out very well for everyone involved. The whole thin at AX over the past couple days as shown how insanely fast their merch moves and how much people flip their shit for the company.

Vshojo is for people who follow them for relatability. They're like the friends you had at your anime club in high school, cosplayers you meet at cons, gamers you play with at tournaments, etc, etc. They're people I can actually imagine hanging out with in real life

Hololive is totally different due to the idol persona they try to uphold and them being put on a pedestal makes them not so relatable to me. I will still watch them, but not for the same reasons.
