Eh, would /meat/ chuubanite really cause antibiotics to be made? I thought it's more about accelerating biological functions than anything. If anything, on healthy lifeform it would encourage growth and healing rather than the opposite. One /meat/ chuubanite use mentioned is that it increases your resistance to pathogens, but I think it works through your existing immune system than anything directly against the pathogen themselves (for one, otherwise it probably won't work against virus otherwise).

>>27130597
Personally I'm not too sure about /meat/ pathogen being stronger due to the above although I'm not too against it
If that's the case, though, it would suck a lot more for people who got raided by /meat/heads back then tho

your body naturally produces antibodies, that is a natural function of the immune system. /meat/ chuubanite would accelerate the production of those antibodies when they are in use to fight against infection, but it would also regenerate the infection. that was my reasoning.

then it's not really antibiotics to begin with
More or less, yes, since /meat/ chuubanite accelerates those biological functions, and odds are pathogen would be able to benefit from any /meat/ chuubanite they can get as well. I guess that might be another reason why the disease resistance magic is done in the form of chuubanite tattoo/scar, since the glyph patterns would allow the effect to be concentrated in specific part of the body (for example, your lymphatic system, so that your immune system benefits the most from the effect without also boosting the pathogen too much).
I suppose that does mean if a foreigner caught a pathogen that's currently being boosted by /meat/ chuubanite, the infection would be worse than their more mundane counterpart. Not sure how long the effect will persist once the pathogen's outside /meat/ though

Fuuchan was in an accident a few years ago that almost killed him. He survived, obviously, but it left him bedridden for a while and permanently fucked up his spine and left with a whole host of other disabilities and health issues -- tremors in his extremities, neuropathy, etc. Early on the pain was so bad he apparently considered medically-assisted suicide. He's doing a lot better these days, but it still wouldn't surprise any of us if he just suddenly dropped dead. This is also why comfydants are all such massive saviorfags.

Yup. It comes up on stream from time to time, like he has a standing desk because his spine issues don't let him sit for very long. He had to abruptly end stream early once because it broke, and after sitting for like an hour his voice was noticeably strained from the pain. He bonded with ironmouse over both having totally fucked central nervous systems. His vtuber persona having artificial limbs + a metal spine was clearly not a coincidence.

Sadly its not strong enough to carry all the Risuners. So we still have to walk on the way there. Now there is a way for Risuners to enter Universe Square of Lammington Station at least. However it requires Risuners to take a "test". Now the only thing Risuners have to do is spit in a dish and wait a few days. Same with Deadbeats or any native that wants to enter. Universe Square is the most clean and sanitized public area. Its also at the entrance so it can be isolated quickly.

Luknight Expedition to /risu/, Entry #6

Our journey to Kenkerto is complete, but not without one final hiccup. Our proud armor seems to have been too heavy for the Risuner paths, and Sir Sucre caused a minor cave-in that got him stuck from his waist down. Winardi and our other Risuner guides tried to help pull him out, but it took the help of another, strange-looking Risuner who had already been in the hole. Winardi said this was a mole-Risuner, and that the squirrels and them don't talk much. Curious, nanora...

The Kronies of Kenkerto aren't truly that different than us, nnaaa. The local Risuners actually thought we were a new type of Krony when we first arrived. They seem to love clocks and are much less guarded about exchanging 'nuts' with the Risuners.

Our gifts of candy pleased the Kronies, nanora, but did not wow them as they had the Risuners. I suppose part of that is we did not expect to be meeting a second people, but it seems they have already been making their own sweets (though not as well, or as magnificently as our Hime's loyal subjects)

Loyalty to Luna,
Sir Saccrhin Plumdrop III

Report on Deadbeat LABEE, Entry #6

Nasedina, a mining town, and the last Lunaito settlement before the mountain divide. The Deadbeat engineers watched with amazement at the efficiency of the mines. Luna Chuubanite "lampposts" are scattered around the mines, which candify the rocks and dirt we can't use.

Shige, Gaia, and most of the Soldiers have gotten along well with the hard Lunaitos of Pick and Lantern that make up most of the population. Cinnama may be a little disheartened at how well they enjoy freshly-mined, totally unprepared hardy candy, but he'll recover.

Still, some of our guests are uneasy. Some of the researchers and engineers feel the mining tunnels would make all too great a habitat for a giant mythical Morijian snake. Worse still, one of Puffison's students has confided in me her nervousness about a possible Deadbeat vulnerability to gummy lichen. Citrora, Akira, and I assured her that gummy zombification is far too slow to catch a Deadbeat unawares, even if they were vulnerable. Visting Zomrades have been known to detach offending limbs, collect replacements from their personal luggage, and eat the gummified body part.

Still, gummy bear or gummy horse attacks are always risk traveling the mountains and north. Our squadron can take them, but for diplomacy's sake, conflict must be minimized. We come equipped with salt cannons to desiccate the gummies if needs must.

Your glorious frozen north awaits, Himesama,
Lady Noravera Jaggery

Their long term objective would initially be to return home, but there's a good chance they'll eventually come to the conclusion that things have changed too much. They've been gone for many years and they've become far too different compared to a normal Rosebuta due to everything they've seen. With that knowledge, after some time since they wouldn't come to that conclusion right away, they might try to form their own new faction of Rosebutas dedicated to the mass cleansing of schizos. Not all of them might accept this and decide to try and make the long trek home anyways. Not sure how well that makes sense, I'm pretty out of it. I hope that all checks out.

so, after i came up with the idea for the mushroom, i noticed that /meat/ should have a lot more biodiversity than what we've described so far, and also that speculative biology is just worldbuilding in biology instead of physics. not to say speculative biology isn't part of world building, but i wasn't sure how well my interest in one would translate to the other. anyways, while we were still discussing the impact the mushrooms would have on our society, i came up with another, completely separate idea. i suppose it's partially inspired by the guy who mentioned nurgle, though i would like to point out that i brought him up all the way back when i wrote about mai-chan's blessing.
anyways, one problem with the idea i had is how it evolved, but /meat/ chuuba makes evolution go faster, and nature finds a way, so i figured as long as i explain how it works, everything else can be explained by a combination of mutation and natural selection. i'll write the idea in it's own comment so that we won't need to include the full conversation, but feel free to make any suggestions if you want.

>> No.27148099

>>27148054
basically, the idea i had was darwin wasps, but unfertilized eggs become hives that also serve the purpose of producing and fertilizing eggs. one of the two predominant sexes of these wasps is replaced by a parasitic mound of flesh that intertwines itself into whatever it is parasitizing that can be used to produce more eggs to be injected into other organisms. the hive uses /meat/ chuubanite to keep the host alive and capable of fending for itself for the most part, and produces a strong, bitter/spicy scent (and flavor) that is supposed to keep predators away, mark its territory, and inform other wasps of the location of the hive. it also has the slight ability to make its host more susceptible to suggestion, but this effect does not always work, and can be undone with the use of certain medicines, making it unreliable.
the main advantage of a moving hive is that it can be used to gather resources passively, as the eggs that the hive produces can be a source of food for the wasps if they lack the resources necessary to survive, with the host itself as another option if that should fail, but also because the wasps can access more environments to "invade". the wasps are highly territorial against other wasps and will fight to the death to kill enemy wasps and their hives, but the wasps will be passive against most other organisms as long as they don't threaten the hive, since they could make for a potential new hive. this conditional passivity applies to the host itself.
if the host is not made more susceptible to suggestion by the hive and goes on to threaten the hive in any noticeable way, or alternatively if the host dies, the wasps will eat the host and start anew. this leads to a more r selected reproductive strategy. if the host, or nearby organisms do not appear to be a threat to the hive, the wasps will go about their business as usual. regardless of whether or not the host is under its influence, it will still feel pain from having a bunch of wasps crawling around in it as the hive slowly burrows itself deeper into its insides to maintain its production of more eggs, but it might be better at ignoring and living with that pain as a result of the increased suggestibility.
a particularly strong willed /meat/head could make use of this by intentionally infecting themselves and entering enemy territory, as the wasps will protect the host from things that threaten the hive. the scent of the hive can also be used to reduce hostility to the hive at the cost of making other wasps go completely irate, but this won't stop the hive from defending itself. another way of making use of the wasps is to smoke out the hive and transport it in enemy territory, but this is less reliable and has a higher likelihood of either backfiring or failing due to the wasps being incapable of defensing themselves until they are back to normal conditions. the wasps retain any natural weaknesses that wasps have, including a weakness to smoke or gas-based weapons, but they also can't reproduce without a hive, which requires a host to live.

because the wasps would want to nest in the monkeys. the thing about the infestation of this species is that if it creates a hive, it technically is symbiotic instead of parasitic because it produces a kind of mutual benefit solely from the fact that it makes the interests of the hive the same as the interests of it's host, the problem is, why limit this only to monkeys when they could do it to any other species, as well?

This isn't true. Symbiotic relationships in real life are often really, really specific, not super generalized. So long as the wasp found even one species which understood it was beneficial, both species could theoretically flourish. In fact I think you may in fact be making it a wee bit overpowered if you're also giving it brainwashing powers. What is this wasp's natural predator? How has it not completely taken over its local ecosystem?

I guess it also depends on which part of the body the wasps need to attach to. Softer parts of most animals tend to be the most sensitive like the stomach or face. A lot of tougher skin for predators is on the back of their necks to give them an advantage against other predators. Herbivores would be the more ideal animals to attach to. Wasps would sting a predator before the herbivore becomes aware. Which could be a very frightening enemy. Especially if the herbivore becomes aggressive with this behavior. The swarm of wasps could eat a predator alive, and the herbivore lives on.

>> No.27157004

>>27153878
didn't i address most, if not all of that in >>27148099? it's parasitic, first and foremost. the symbiotic effect is purely the result of it defending it's hive, which happens to be the host. while there is a bit of mutual benefit, it's clear the wasps benefit most from, and hold all the leverage in the interaction. it doesn't have brainwashing powers, it basically makes the host follow it's normal routines and behaviors, ignoring the pain that comes from being a hive.
it's weaknesses as wasps are the same as before, stuff like birds and what not are probably common predators of them, and these wasps attack other wasps to an irrational degree. furthermore, i said that smoke and gas-based weapons are effective against them. the reason i mentioned gas-based weapons specifically was because /meat/ doesn't use guns since they are unreliable and can damage goods, they use gas-based weapons instead, and we both know /meat/ can find a lot of uses for wasps, i even mentioned the taste of the flesh of the host for that reason. finally, any predator of the host that can handle the wasps trying to defend it pose a great threat to the wasp's survival, although if they can manage to infest the predator, it would be a minor setback.
>How has it not completely taken over its local ecosystem?
ok, this one is a better question. despite the fact that i apparently didn't make them obvious enough for you, i added a lot of disadvantages with the goal of preventing this species from doing just that, but it's not because of anything i did to make them harder to deal with. if anything, lacking a consistent hive that they can return to is a bit of a disadvantage, but it is offset by the advantages mentioned in the second paragraph.
the thing i was basing them off of, darwin wasps, are known to take over ecosystems. if you want to know what effect they would likely have on the ecosystem, i suggest looking to their real-world counterpart. with that being said, yet another disadvantage that looks like an advantage, the fact that they can use /meat/ chuubanite to keep the hive alive, would limit them to /meat/ and nearby areas.
the way i imagine it is that the host might get the advantage of being infested by wasps that will defend it, but that would never offset the disadvantage of being infested by wasps unless they were both really smart, and really strong willed. even then, it would only be a benefit for as long as it was being used to defend the host, which is why /meat/heads would probably remove it as soon as they didn't need it anymore though i would imagine /meat/ would also enjoy the pain, so maybe they wouldn't do it too soon. it is only technically symbiotic, and solely as a result of the intertwining of the hive's interests with that of the hosts.
if it is used intentionally, it is very rare, i just thought it would be cool if it was possible. if you still don't like it, or think it's overpowered, i can find more ways to balance it, but i was somewhat proud of the fact that most of the advantages are disadvantages in disguise.

as far as predators go, i imagine it as a win condition sort of thing. there are some animals that completely counter these wasps in every way, and there are some that are completely countered in every way, but for the most part, the win condition for the wasp is to incubate a host, and the win condition of any potential host is first to avoid it, and second to eat the wasp if applicable. most species would be capable of countering it depending on the situation they were in, and how events would transpire, but wasps are capable of countering most of those species, as well. monkeys specifically being a primary predator seems strange to me when other species might have stronger advantages over these wasps than monkeys.

as far as predators go, i imagine it as a win condition sort of thing. there are some animals that completely counter these wasps in every way, and there are some that are completely countered in every way, but for the most part, the win condition for the wasp is to infect a host, and the win condition of any potential host is first to avoid it, and second to eat the wasp if applicable. most species would be capable of countering it depending on the situation they were in, and how events would transpire, but wasps are capable of countering most of those species, as well. monkeys specifically being a primary predator seems strange to me when other species might have stronger advantages over these wasps than monkeys.

You keep calling your wasps parasitic but the only real downside I see to these things is the excruciating pain they cause. They don't kill the host, they don't steal resources off the host, and they're an added, completely automated defense system for the host. They even serve to make the host unappealing to potential predators. What predator is going out of its way to essentially fight off two animals at once (the host and the hive) when the only reward is a foul-tasting meal? Even when it's not an absolute pain to go after, many predators will completely avoid bad-tasting prey. You see many species of animals in real life who have taken advantage of this as their main survival strategy, such as the case with viceroy butterflies. Viceroy butterflies taste good, but they've evolved to look like monarch butterflies, which taste absolutely foul. As a result, most bird ignore them entirely unless they're absolutely desperate. I suspect you'd wind up with a similar phenomenon in regard to animals hosting these wasps - predators would learn they taste bad, and would then not care to go through the hassle of hunting them. The host has gained nature's equivalent of a notice-me-not field.

The only real drawback, the pain, is mitigated by the brainwashing (yes, I think most people would consider "ignore the excruciating pain you're in" brainwashing, albeit a very mild form of it). The only time the hive actually becomes a problem for the host is if the host tries to remove it. Aggression against other wasps is not a drawback unless these wasps of yours are abnormally weak. Otherwise, these things probably fucking obliterate other wasps and may have become the only wasps in their native biome. Hyper-aggression is a valid survival strategy. As for them still having a normal wasp's weaknesses...I don't know about that. Those are heavily mitigated by the existence of the host. Smaller animals like rabbits may not be able to deter a wasp's natural predators, but would a bird divebomb a monkey or wild boar just to get at these wasps, when they can eat other, easier prey? I have my doubts. While smoke and gas are, of course, effective against wasps...this is only in regards to its weakness vs humans. What's its weakness in its natural habitat? I'm really having a hard time imagining an ecosystem this wasp doesn't just bulldoze over.

I think your main problem here is that you spent a lot of time thinking about how these wasps interact with humans, but not a lot about how they'd affect the local ecosystem outside of that.

>> No.27158380

>>27158160
I think the obvious, simple solution is to make them actually parasitic, IE they actually eat a bit of their host. Little enough that it survives, but enough to steal a significant portion of its resources. This would make it more logical that the wasps would go through the effort of infesting the victim, and this would give incentive for the local fauna to create natural counter measures (thicks skin/fur, grooming behaviors).

i'm starting to realize that i failed to properly describe a whole bunch of stuff that was going on in my mind. i thought i clarified it, and i can point to places in my description of them that i would have thought would make it obvious, but apparently nobody else is getting it.
so first of all, please read this line.
>regardless of whether or not the host is under its influence, it will still feel pain from having a bunch of wasps crawling around in it as the hive slowly burrows itself deeper into its insides to maintain its production of more eggs
now, maybe i should have clarified it a bit more, but when i said burrow, i am imagining the kinds of things that i would get banned for posting here. fun fact, in the editing stage, i used the word "eating" but figured that wasn't descriptive enough of what was happening. i guess that was a mistake. it isn't painful just because, and as i have said multiple times before, it is only technically symbiotic, as in it provides one slight advantage to counter the massive disadvantage that comes with being infested. i said they had to have a more r selected reproductive strategy, looking at the context, you should see that i was referring to the hive's survivability. a normal hive doesn't have the risk of dying the bigger the hive gets. i added a whole paragraph specifically to explain why the wasps would still be able to survive despite this disadvantage because i thought it was too harmful to their survival.
second, darwin wasps often give their hosts aids. when i wrote the description, i removed a line comparing the suggestibility to behavioral aids because i figured it would be obvious, but they use aids to cause the immune system to ignore the eggs in the same way the hive makes the host ignore the wasps.
third, when i said agression against other wasps, i was thinking that, since other wasps might take their potential hosts, they would want to reduce the number of wasps that weren't from their hive. not their species. they are not the predators of other wasps, they are the predators of their own kin and relatives as soon as they stop being part of the same host. if anything, other species of wasps would be less threatening if they don't take away potential hosts.
>>27158225
my main problem is that i came up with the idea of it parasitizing humans after coming up with the idea in general. i said the guy who mentioned nurgle was an inspiration for it, but i had the idea long before. it was when i realized how it could apply to humans that i got interested in writing about it here, hence why i felt like i had to go into more detail about it than the stuff i said before.

i'm pretty sure brainwashing involves a specific process. otherwise, spiking someone's drink would be considered brainwashing. now that i think of it, "succeptible to suggestion" implies making someone do something they wouldn't have otherwise done if it were suggested to them.
i am imagining that depressive, almost empty feeling you get when you just sort of live without any enthusiasm, where you just sort of do stuff because it's what you usually do, and if things exist that prevent you from doing it, you just sort of push through and ignore it because you can't be arsed to respond to anything outside of autopilot. i don't know how to describe this, which might be why there is so much confusion over it, but i wouldn't imagine it being all that complex, even if i didn't specifically say that it was unreliable, or that the wasps only kill the host if it does anything to threaten it. with that said, i figure if i tried i could think of a way to make it more reliable at the cost of increased complexity, such that it actually could be a mild form of brainwashing, but i'll leave that for later.
>As for them still having a normal wasp's weaknesses
the host is a hive, not a mecha. the wasps can't rely on it to be self-sufficient, they need to exit the hive and gather resources like all other species. also, wasps and bees change their behavior depending on whether or not they have a hive to return to. i said unfertilized eggs turn into hives which can fertilize eggs, implying they need to be in need of a hive to bear a new hive. for the most part, they are not protected by a hive.
if we applied this standard to normal wasps, then they would have fewer predators because wasps can protect themselves from some predators by going inside the hive. while it's true that the hive has it's own prey, it also has it's own predators, and as i have been trying to emphasize for so long, the host isn't just fine and dandy after the parasitic wasps parasitize them, the host is less even with the automated defense system, but the wasps are more because paragraph 2.
>What's its weakness in its natural habitat?
this isn't a serious problem for me, but it's a pet peeve of mine that people keep acting like the way man effects things shouldn't be considered because humans are supposedly unnatural or something. the only difference between us and any other species is the degree of our ability to intentionally change our surroundings, but every other species can change the ecosystem dramatically, sometimes in intentional ways, sometimes with rudimentary technology that, again, only differs from our technology in degree and not method. even the pace of advancement is beat by other species, so pretending that the way we change things doesn't count for any reason seems flawed to me. /meat/ would have a noticeable effect on its population, especially because it would likely kill its hive if it left /meat/'s territory.
>nature's equivalent of a notice-me-not field
i suppose i didn't mention that the hosts get aids before, but wasps can't defend them against bacteria, viruses, and other microscopic predators, so that is worth mentioning. with that said, the more i think about what you said, the more i realize that you are accidentally making a good point. your main point is completely wrong, the hosts are obviously infested, even if there are no wasps to defend it, so unless predators stop hunting their prey if they encounter too many rotten corpses of their prey that taste bad, they won't evolve to avoid the prey.
they would evolve to avoid the wasps. part of that was the intention of the scent, since i figured the hive would be too weak if they didn't have it, but if the mere presence of the wasps can deter predators, that could make the scent unnecessary, though i still think the hive itself should have that flavor. with this said, i would imagine the number of predators that would ignore or fail to notice the wasps is higher than the number of predators that would ignore or fail to notice the scent, so your desire to give it more predators can be satisfied with that simple change.
hopefully i am not overcompensating, but if you think it is still too powerful then i really have no idea why. again, the way i'm imagining it makes it extremely weak, and even if it is powerful, keep in mind that i said it was only in /meat/, and that /meat/ chuubanite's effects on evolution would give the place a lot of biodiversity, which would make everything there more dangerous. hopefully me and the other /meat/heads or anyone else that wants to throw a suggestion our way, wink wink can come up with a bunch of species, though i doubt we will add enough to cover an entire ecosystem, especially since it might start getting more complicated than it's worth at some point, but hopefully we can make an in-depth ecosystem to work off of.

I can't magically draw new land (though I would if i could) for the others because the reality is I want everyone to have better borders and with ocean currents, I don't want to mess with that unless we really want to fix this as a community. I never planned to. I am not the "god" of this world in my own mind. I am not this awful unreasonable person who just wants to take land for no reason.

What I am is getting sick of hearing how I do not care for other's works and the map as a whole when I have repeatedly said the map is not this thing for me that I have to have my way. The map, for me, is a useful resource for storytelling and lore building. If umbrage is held against me for messing up a border because I didn't have it the way it is, that's unfortunate.

I made an agreement with /2434/ about this, if that is insufficient, please vote on it. Same thing with everything else. I will happily redraw the map if everyone agrees I should. But please stop with this demeaning attitude towards me that I am some serial offender and inconsiderate asshole when I am just trying to write a fucking story that I find interesting, and I hope others would too.

I am seriously annoyed at this point that everything I fucking do is somehow offensive to someone or breaks something, like yesterday about "Gods" appearing in Dreams going against HoloEarth.

Furthermore, me talking about Nasfaqg wasn't my own opinion at all, that's just what several hear have actually said, that they do not understand why /ahoy/ and Nasfaqg are so close to Nijilands.

At the end of the day, If I am such a fucking problem, I'll gladly continue my work somewhere else. This is merely a fun past time for me while I am struggling to find a job for my family.

Sorry, rant over but I really cannot stand this shit at this point when I try to be reasonable and get looked down on.

Never actually tried smoking meat with green wood before but from my experience camping, green wood usually produces a kind of unpleasant smell when you burn them. I'd imagine the meat would be ruined if you use anything other than season/dried wood. Also the smoke they produce isn't that high temperature as they still need to evaporate most of that water first. I'd stick to normal sapling wood.

Oops, in hindsight I missed some obvious points. It's for the best we didn't continue this conversation last night. You're right that I should have noticed the wasps already slowly eat out the host's insides as the nest grows. But, again, given the host doesn't die, I'm not sure this is a disadvantage. Of course form a human perspective, "oh god I'm slowly dying because my insides are gradually being scooped out" is a terrible, terrible thing. From an evolutionary perspective, however? Not so much. When luna moths emerge from their cocoons, they no longer have mouths. They die slow, painful deaths over the course of one week, but evolution did not particularly care to correct this. As long as the creature reproduces before it dies, as far as nature is concerned, that's a grand success. These wasps' hosts would presumably still have enough time to reproduce, since I assume the wasps are smart enough to avoid vital organs for as long as possible for the sake of the hive's survival. But with your clarification on the wasps essentially just giving their hosts existential depression, I think this is neatly solved. The host probably just loses all mating drive.
>wasps attack their own
Ah, alright, this point wasn't clear. Yes, this is fine as a drawback then, the wasps would naturally curb their own population.
>the wasps need to exit the hive to gather resources like all other species
They need to exit the hive, but because the host continues to behave as normal, they would never have to travel very far. Normal nesting wasps/bees (of which parasitoid wasps are not, though I assume you know this) also prefer to stay as close to their nest as possible when hunting for food. They only begin to range further when the hive grows too large, consuming all nearby resources. The "hive" for these wasps move, eliminating that problem. But even if that weren't the case, the biggest threat to a wasp/bee hive's survival is not predation against gatherers. It's attacks directly to their nest by creatures like mice, honey badgers and bears which eat the larvae. I suspect this is the point you were trying to make about the wasps having their own predators, but most creatures that prey on wasp nests are quite small and would be offput by the "hive" being a living creature with the potential to fight back. Very large predators like bears won't give a shit if the "hive" is now an animal, but the medium sized and smaller ones, which make up the bulk of a wasps natural predators would be less likely to attack your wasps' nests vs a regular wasp's nest.
>humans shouldn't be considered unnatural
Ah, I realize I'm the one who failed to extrapolate my thoughts here due to my assumption that people are autistic about the same things as me. Of course humans are considered a part of the environment and will affect the biome they live in, but you still have to consider what the biome looks like without humans because humans are an incredibly young species. If we're very generous with what we consider human, humans have been around for about 3 million years. Wasps have been around for 240 million. /meat/'s biome would have been shaped by these wasps long before humans came into the picture.
>predators would evolve to avoid the wasps
Yes, this is the point I was making. There's no disagreement here. I did not mean predators would evolve a host animals entire species, or I would have said as much. I meant that predators would evolve to specifically avoid "hosts of the parasitic wasps," which is enough of an evolutionary advantage that some animals are very likely to allow the wasps to nest in them willingly, forming a symbiotic relationship. Of course, this has already been solved with the lack of mating drive -- the hosts are now decidedly parasitic. Given the additional clarification that your wasps attack their own, there is also no concern about ecological domination. I now think your wasps are fine. Good work on these guys.

"Meine Generale Schwerin Nund Feldmarschall von Quedlinburg ,

Nun adjö, Luise, wisch ab das Gesicht,

denn träfe jede Kugel apart ihren Mann,
wo kriegten die Könige ihre Soldaten dann!

Die Musketenkugel macht ein kleines Loch,
die Kanonenkugel ein weit grösseres noch;
die Kugeln sind alle von Eisen und Blei,
und manche Kugel geht manchem vorbei.

Unsre Artillerie hat ein vortrefflich Kaliber,
und von den Pommern geht keiner nicht zum Feinde hinüber;

the thing is, this is not the fanfic writing thread. this is the worldbuilding thread

i have nothing against your writing or had issue so far with your interpretation of stuff for your mythical story so far.

but stuff like how gods work, the way the borders are set and other stuff have been discussed by many and agreed upon by the overall concens of the thread. It is supposed to lay the foundation so that everyone can work with the same principle and can interact with each other. at the end the stories you write are not just supposed to stand in some corner of their own but also be potential pieces that other anons can interact with and implement into their own things too.

same with the fact that borders are not to be changed on a whim of 1 or 2 people, we had ACTUAL trouble because of such things with /uuu/ and /who/ for example in the past.
as well as it sets a precedence that than later can be used as "well pomerlaneanon changed the map to suit his stuff so why can i not take 1/3rd of this nation because it suits mine?"

But your wasps are only capable of existing in /meat/ and explicitly make use of chuubanite to keep the host alive. There is no scenario where the host does not have access to chuubanite. And of course that's a gross prospect to humans, but again, animals don't care. Perhaps when the wasp first began appearing, potential mates would avoid infested hosts, but given an evolutionary advantage they would quickly cease to care as it became evident infected animals did better than non-infected ones. This no longer matters for your wasps specifically, but it's something to keep in mind for future speculative biology projects. Evolution quite simply does not care about what humans think of as offputting.

I mean, it would be a long travel either way. But you're correct in that they would have to locate some border area to speak with. They'd locate the first town or fort they can, then look for directions to the capital and other information they can get from the people without arousing suspicion.

On the surface, Quilldren territory is mostly untamed forest. They have cute, quaint little hamlets dotted around and it appears their only major metropolis is their capital city. But in reality a ton of shit is hidden underground. This is to hide the fact they actually think their god is an eldritch time deity responsible for all creation who must be appeased with sacrifices lest he grow bored of our universe. Sometimes lone travelers in Quilldren territory just "disappear," but nobody thinks much of it because the forest is dangerous, littered with sinkholes and difficult to navigate.

That's pretty based. It's a bit like a less intense version of /rose/, except your forest is dangerous in a different way. Where /rose/'s forest is dangerous mostly because of the wildlife, Quilldren's forest is dangerous because of environmental hazards.
>>27189378
I can see that happening, yeah. The Rosebutas would probably have a Sunwalker with them as well, one that's snuck around /NijiEN/ territory long enough to have a basic understanding of the language. Since Sunwalkers are far more human looking all they'd have to really do is hide their heads, unlike a Tunnelhog that would have to hide the legs and hands and such.

Yeah, it is quite similar in some ways! The biggest difference would be that Quilldren still keep a public face above-ground, and it's one that's generally well respected. They're considered somewhat pretentious but mostly helpful and aren't seen as a threat at all, given their physical frailty. But then they have this whole murder-suicide cult hidden underground. I wanted to give their society a dark fairytale sort of vibe, since Ike is a novelist with yandere tendencies.

Rosebutas don't have much in the way of land travel, but they're pretty quick on foot so it wouldn't be too big of a deal there. I think the best way to go about it, with everything in mind, is a fort that knows of Sunwalkers one day has a group of them show up at the door step. Perhaps they haven't actually spoken with Sunwalkers, due to their inherent aversion to other people, which feeds into the sudden pressure of a whole horde of them appearing in front of the fort. With them is a small number of hooded individuals, which the Sunwalkers explain is the Tunnelhogs. Then the Tunnelhogs unveil themselves and describe the situation of /rose/. Something like that.
>>27190262
Very fascinating! I'm pretty excited to see that now, to be honest. I'll say that the difference in physical strength is kind of funny, since Rosebutas are normally much more powerful than the average human. Would be funny if a Rosebuta went to politely shake hands and accidentally broke some poor Quilldren's fingers.

Enoch logs ch 1.

Well this is a massive surprise! We were next to Hamdani's camp waiting for her advance scouts to give us a route to /nasa/ when suddenly /nasa/ came to us. They had these really cool looking cart things that somehow drove themselves. I bet they use magic.
They had on really cool looking suits and spoke similarly to the hoomans and saplings. They all seem to share some sort of regional language I guess. Makes it easy to communicate for sure.

The first thing they did was make sure we weren't carrying anything weird. All we have is nuts and basic weapons so they didn't really find much. Sure they raised a few questions about our swords and bows but they probably have cooler stuff so why are they even asking?
It was really funny at least to see them search the tents and see 2 of my crew fucking in the storage room. The poor man just face palmed but that's what he gets for snooping around. Probably just jealous he cant get any sex for himself.

YUP HES FUCKING JEALOUS ALRIGHT! These idiots have some sort of super strict "no sex" rule which to me is baffling. No wonder they had a civil war recently according to the one named Mac. They must have been so sexually frustrated they just killed each other for the right to nut. And god dammit this means all 3 northern nations have rules against nutting what a fucking disappointment.
At the very least they have actual nuts to trade. At least that's what they told me. They are preparing some really fancy stuff and even some of the luknights will be there. I never saw a luknight in person but I know a few of my crew has. I hear they have tasty candies. Hopefully they can at least appreciate the fine art of nutting.

Were currently headed to their land to their presentation area. Hopefully it will be fun but if the hoomans are right about them, then they will be plenty of enjoyment and have lots of cool things to give us for nuts.

Deadbeat anon, are you still here? I was working on Kindred and came up with some suggestions for their potential relationship with Deadbeats that I’d like to run by you. Perhaps way, way back in the day – like, far back enough that Moriji’s volcano was still active – Kindred and Deadbeats were one in the same. Two deities were worshipped on the island – a Japanese goddess and a Latin god. Closer to the volcano, the god was believed to have more influence while a little further out, it was the goddess, but both deities were equally respected and rituals were observed for them both. But the volcano. Periodic eruptions, at first only once every few centuries but then in shorter and shorter intervals, would almost wipe the settlements near the base off the map. It happened began happening with enough frequency that some people eventually got sick of it and set sail for greener (or at least less explosive) shores, this being exaggerated into the near-extinction event in Kindred myth. The worship of the less prevalent deity was eventually forgotten by each respective group, but enough remained that we get the weird mixup of a Latin goddess who’s strangely Japanese and a Japanese god who’s strangely Latin.

Oh, I like that a lot! Kind of ties in with some Deadbeat lore, what with us going through purges to remove ficklebeats, and deadbeats tending to stubbornly stick around no matter what happens.
I like it a lot! The only change I would suggest is in light of the lore regarding the region around Mont Mori. The Underworld as it's called is a region around the Mont where the ambient chuubanite concentrations are too high for humans to settle there long term. Almost everyone is driven mad by it after a while. So there wouldn't be any settlements near the base. But instead we could use the East/West separation as a cultural distinction. There is a chain of volcanic mountains running vertically through Moriji. The East of the island has a different climate due to the ocean currents, it's more mediterranean while the West is more tropical. There is also less land area to the East, so the people living there would have to settle closer to the volcanic chain. So I'd say we put the Deadbeat ancestors on the West side and the kindred ancestors to the East.
This also makes it so the kindred leaving the island need only sail straight ahead to hit the continent, if this is happening in the very far past, they'd have limited navigation capability. Once they hit the continent, they would migrate south, eventually settling in the Nijilands.
Also, Mont Mori is still active, just sleeping...

I don't want to crash the party here but why woul deadbeats and kindred have any potential relationship? There is no connection between the two chubbas and there no connection between the two fanbases on /vt/ so why would there bee one in the lore?

>> No.27197271

>>27197093
There is a connection in lore, both chuubas are Underworld entities. Also, both are culturally a japanese-grecoroman mix, which is an odd coincidence.
I don't think the two peoples have a relationship in the current day though, this is more akin to a population movement in prehistory, like steppe people crossing the Alaskan landbridge to reach America. Vitubia is only reaching the level of globalization where Deadbeats and Kindred could possibly be in contact in the current times.
