It was a little different for me. My dad's side of the family all own several guns but they're always in safes whenever they're not at the range, out hunting or displaying them to guests. The only gun in my actual house growing up was my dad's 1911 in his dresser, but that was also in a hand safe.
I don't have much experience shooting but I do own a gun myself and am obviously in favor of responsible gun ownership (a concept some people might balk at but I truly think is possible).

As far as accidental deaths are concerned, I feel so strongly about it because I've known several people within three degrees of separation of me to have accidentally shot themselves. Only one was fatal but that was all I needed to develop this strong opinion about gun safes that I have.
