This is neat! The mushroom's takeover of the host's nervous system while the host is still alive in order to make the host more appetizing to potential predators reminds me a lot of the way green-banded broodsacs take over snails. Perhaps you could take some inspiration from that, and have the mushrooms also noticeably alter the host's behavior in some way? In the case of green-banded broodsacs, they cause snails to sit out on high leaves beneath the sun, to better attract the attention of birds. Since the mushroom's goal is to be eaten, likely hosts' survival instincts will be more or less completely overridden. Perhaps when the host is harmed, the mushroom causes the host's body to produce oxytocin, the hormone responsible for trust and affection. This makes the host more likely to stick around potential predators.

well, my thoughts were that, since mushrooms are the chemists of nature, they would release a chemical into the body that would stimulate the nervous system to feel a constant, sharp pain, and that a combination of the mushrooms growing out of every orifice and the fact that they are intoxicated and likely blind, that they would just sort of stumble around, with some of the mushrooms falling off from the wiggling and writhing of the host. i like your ideas too, though.
keep in mind, it being intoxicating means it probably does some of that, anyways, but maybe not a complete overhaul of the survival instincts unless it's more complex. my idea was for it to be applicable to most forms of life, partially because i want it to effect demihuman types, but also because it just makes sense from a survival perspective.

My issue with this is that if the mushrooms can also just casually grow on the ground then, from an evolutionary standpoint, just spreading spores normally is way easier and less risky than the parasitic takeover route. The mushroom must absolutely need the host, and therefore to be consumed by a predator so its spores can infect a new host, as part of its reproductive cycle, or it being parasitic at all doesn't make a ton of sense. In the first place, mushrooms are already capable of creating their own airflows in order to spread spores. A writhing host may be able to spread the spores further, but is it enough of an advantage for the mushroom to have evolved that way over staying a normal mushroom? Now, on the other hand, if the host is in fact absolutely vital to the mushroom's reproductive process because it can only grow in flesh for whatever reason, it becomes more important for the host to be consumed, thus the altering of behavior through the increase of bonding hormones when near potential predators. There's no particular reason this should only work on humans, by the way -- oxytocin is found in all mammals, and some other animals besides.

Of course, all this being said, this is a fantasy world. You could very well have a parasitic flesh mushroom that also spreads normally and just kind of developed this way for whatever reason. It could even be that these mushrooms originally worked the way I described, but when /meat/ realized they made host flesh taste better, they specially bread new cultivars that cause intense pain, since that's of interest to them, and then further refined them so that they could be grown normally, so that it would be easy to keep up their supplies of the mushrooms without having to jump through complicated hoops to spread it from host to host.

that is true. i was imagining having cool looking mushrooms fruit out from the body that could be gathered and put in another body, but i wasn't sure if there would be a point to it, maybe just to make it more visible or something, but then i thought evolution would get things to avoid it. i suppose it makes more sense to have it rely on a host, but i figure it should be able to survive on a dead host for a while as it returns to soil.
since it doesn't kill the host, all /meat/ needs to do is use mushrooms from any of the infected to infect others before they sacrifice them, which would probably be better for the meat, giving the mushroom ample time to spread and make sure every part of the host's flesh is affected. it might not be too difficult to just keep it reliant on a host, so that's what i think is better. ty for helping me flesh it out.

On the subject of speculative biology and bringing back into the discussion the food situation for /meat/ I was thinking of a mushroom that could solve that problem. The idea is that there is a parasitic mushroom or fungus that grows in the bodies of living things that eat it that causes its host to feel excruciating pain, causing the release of chemicals such as adrenaline that would make meat taste bad, which the fungus consumes, and uses to grow out of any orifice that the living organism has, including eyes. This doesn't kill them, but it makes living harder for them and also makes them feel like they are really intoxicated, which effects their judgement and survival instincts.
The mushroom causes the flesh to take on a more savory, addictive flavor that is somewhat intoxicating in hopes that prey will eat it and continue it's life cycle. If cooked at a certain temperature, it is harmless, but otherwise it can only spread naturally through consumption. I was thinking /meat/ could surgically attach some mushrooms to the chest of the humans they plan to eat, near the heart so as to be as close to the circulatory system as possible. Ideally, this would not only solve the problem we discussed, but reverse it, making the flesh more savory and intoxicating the more pain the host receives.
Allowing the mushrooms time to spread through the body before sacrifice is the ideal method of growing it. During this time, the mushrooms will bear fruit that can be used to infect other hosts. while the mushroom can survive for a while on a dead host, it requires a host to survive for long periods of time. The mushroom can infect most kinds of animals.
Any thoughts?

tell me if there is anything you would change. also, i was thinking about the possibility of a cure. looking it up, it looks like a reliable way of dealing with internal fungal infections is with antibiotics, which /meat/ chuubanite might be able to stimulate, so i was wondering if there should be a way to make it get around that, since our sacrifices will be expected to have a lot of chuubanite in them for ritualistic purposes.

Also want to state this about NijiEN gods by my intepretation. Each nation has their own patron but that does not mean that the Gods themselves are exculsive nor does it mean that the Gods don't interact with each other.

Think of it like this ,Aeneas' patron was Aphrodite but that certainly didn't mean Apollo didn't help him nor did Ares.

I do plan on doing some interactions between the gods in my story as seperate pieces for fun. maybe even start a series that goes each deity (that I have power over as rep)

Hamdani logs ch.2

Ok I forgot to catalog a lot in the last chapter so here is the plan and what we have been doing. First off I have been instructed directly from both local witches and the elders of Silvanus to take anything I am capable of getting that will benefit the magical forests of my homeland.
To achieve this we needed to first understand the sapling language. I discussed this with Jayawan earlier in /who/ and he thinks this is the best first step. So like him I intend to first learn the language along a few others who wish to be translators. Basic communication is a must of course.

We originally started off by running in the edge of the forest and meeting a few saplings. They are a strange mix of human and plant and I personally find that to be kind of erotic desu. But before I would offer them myself for their nuts I needed to exchange for food.
We offered them a variety of nuts. Almost every type of different nut was shown to them and they seemed to be at least somewhat interested. Perhaps they would show more interest if they realized they could have whole new trees with them.

In exchange for nuts we want food. Specifically we would want any food that can either be grown with seeds, or food that is unique to their land that we do not have back home. Even if we cannot get unique food it would be nice to stock up on supplies. The expedition to /nasa/ is with us as well and we don't have too much.
In order to obtain food I decided to send out scout teams in pairs. I need to do this for 4 reasons. Biggest reason is climbing trees and scavenging any fruit that can be found. Second is to scout ahead a route for the /nasa/ team to go on ahead. The third is to test out the supposed conversion magic and see how long it takes for it to have an effect.
From what I have heard from the hoomans, the conversion is reversible if not too severe but can be deadly if there is too much prolonged exposure. Finally the fourth reason is to test the freindliness of the natives of the land. All scout teams are to document anything they find and to report it back to me. Anyone that goes missing for whatever reason will of course have a partner who would serve as an eye witness and be able to tell me what happened.
If these people are indeed hostile then I would have no choice but to make the path to /nasa/ by burning down that specific region. An option I would rather not do but if it is necessary then it will be done.

The first of the scouts are out now. Within 2 days I should hear back from them. May Risu protect us in this magical forest and hopefully it is more helpful than hurtful.

The rest of the armies of either realm have not got this training and will be fighting as they have with Pike and Shot formations from the mid-17th century. These reforms were made in the late 17th century IRL to Sweden.

Cavalry is different because they were already elite forces and not much has changed. Just reduction in the armor and Lancers having different tactics.

Artillery is the biggest change and that was done immediately because of Pomerlanes understanding of how important it was.

Regarding other nations, they are using the same tactics that other countries IRL would have used against the Caroleans. These methods aren't out of date at all. The only real change I have made mentally is that infantry breastplates are more common with Pikemen and Halberdiers. My problem was I started this TL thinking it was in the 15th century and not the 18th century. I am trying to fix that now.

Risuners use hit and run tactics. Their ability to live off the land better than most people and their natural fast running speed makes them VERY fast. They can either retreat easily or pursue a fleeing enemy no problem. This is especially true in a forested environment because they can climb trees so easily. Their main weakness is actual direct combat. They do not have the military training other nations do nor the technology so they just use speed and ambush as well as seemingly being everywhere at once. Napoleon I believe did this a lot in his campaigns.

>Napoleon I believe did this a lot in his campaigns.
What napoleon did was he pretty much got rid of the baggage train and his army lived off the land, which along with columns allowed him to march faster. What you are thinking of is Spanish Guerillas from the wars.

Ah. Well yeah that's what risuners do. They pretty much live off their land since it's so good at growing food and since they can climb trees to get stuff it's super easy for them. That's sort of a myth about our revolution. It didn't happen as much as it was said (Only really relevant at Lexington and Concord, which were conducted without the knowledge of that there was going to be a war that started from this). The British very much knew how to deal with this type of warfare, they had just experienced it 20 years prior in the same region against the French.

I guess my point is that enemy armies will counter this when they know a war is ongoing with their own skirmishers, Risuners should try instead to defeat an enemy in detail by attacking smaller detachments with their speed. Read up on Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign of 1862 and/or Lettow-Vorbeck's 4 year long struggle against the British in German East Africa in WW1. It will help.

Selenium has no navy aside from maybe a few Brigs and sloops protecting their one port. Pomerania's fleet is controlled by the Stormfuries, who as stated, do not want to see their rivals succeed too much so that fleet is not doing anything. Pomerlane has no real fleet aside from a few Frigates and smaller ships. Eliria has a small navy but they aren't going to use it unless the Pomeranian navy is committed. So long as the mushrooms are native to /meat/, I don't think you really need some complicated explanation for why /meat/ chuubanite doesn't do anything to them. Feel free to include him in your stories if you'd like! It'd be fun to read. In general, I think it should be fine for any niji anon writing about the Empire to include any of the Empire's gods in their stories. Due to the nature of gods in Vitubia, mentions of them in "real" stories wouldn't be more than as mentions of worship and such anyways, which would be a silly thing to restrict. Myths where the gods would have actual presence, on the other hand, are essentially just in-universe fanfiction (fanfics of our fanfics...). Any mischaracterization can ultimately be put down to different cultures' interpretations of the gods alongside the writer's own biases, which is a thing that tended to happen in real myths for widespread pantheons anyway.

Some Lucubs would likely join up, if you want them. Even though they split from Pomerania long ago, I imagine there would still be some loyalists who consider themselves Pomeranians first. Comfydants would also absolutely be chomping at the bit to join what's essentially a revolutionary army, but I doubt you want the hassle of dealing with cyborgs in what's largely being written like a historical text. Battle-relevant shit for Comfydants:
- Retractable blades. You can't fully disarm one. They'd be pretty menacing at close-range given the tech levels Ninisani is at, as they'd be able to shrug off any blows that don't directly connect with a fleshy bit. Low-caliber guns would also be shrugged off if it impacts with a cybernetic part, but given your military knowledge I assume you're well aware what will and won't pierce steel.
- Built in air filtration, artificial eyes. Dust storms and other such environmental conditions that may make breathing or visibility problems for full organics would not affect them. Sharper vision than a human.
- Between themselves, they're capable of short-range radio communications. I've been debating what range wouldn't be completely overpowered given Vitubia's current militech levels, but honestly, you would probably know better than me. Thoughts?
- They have a small amount of "internal storage" where they can store photographs/recordings taken through their eyes. Useful for espionage since this essentially gives them perfect memories, but of course, storage space is limited, and regardless of whether they can perfectly recall something they'd still have to actually notice anything worth noting. Assume they can store around as much as an early flip phone before things need to start being deleted.
- They aren't used to formalized military movements and are kind of shit with authority. While they can march with a group well enough, they would likely serve poorly in tight battle formations as they'll fuck off to do their own thing if it seems to be going poorly. You're better served using them as scouts, or part of a small shock troop. Roles where their tendency for independent action would be beneficial, rather than harmful. Of course, they can be trained out of this, but it would take time and you'd better earn their respect first.
- They're used to navigating and fighting on tricky terrain, but wide open flatlands would throw them for a loop. Hell, some of them probably have agoraphobia. You can actually see the sky here. Weird.
- They've figured out how to essentially use chuubanite as batteries for their cybernetics, but they burn through it quickly. You'll need to ensure they have a steady supply or they'll die as vital components like their throats and spines begin failing them. (If this does end up happening, they'll likely keep fighting right up until their limbs just stop working. They're stubborn sons of bitches.)

Not Pomerlaneanon, but I know a bit about radio communications. Basic radio walkie-talkies have a range of about 5 miles, but since comfydants don't seem to have antennas poking out of anywhere, their range would be a lot more limited, maybe 2-3 miles? And that's uninterrupted line of sight, radio comes can work around hills, forests or valleys, but it reduces the range further.

>>27037949
This was actually my eventual plan, but it's something that would happen over time as keeping up their current level of tech with the resources and infrastructure available to them becomes unsustainable. This would level them back off with Vitubia's timeline instead of me essentially forcing all the countries around me into rapid tech advancement. This war of yours is taking place 20 years ago, Comfydants have only been here for 20 or 30 years themselves. I doubt they would have had time to adapt. I'm absolutely open to suggestions for how to make them work better in current time, though, so do feel free to offer your suggestions.

You can give it a super short range or come up with an excuse for why they're all busted at the moment if you like, but I'm not getting rid of it as a whole. Radar...this wasn't something they had to start with. Perhaps you misunderstood the point about their eyes? They would simply fare better in environments with high air pollution than a regular human as there would be no burning sensation or whatever to deal with. Just pretend they have built in goggles. The "photographs" would be internal use only. Just treat them like they have perfect recall. Large scale use of coal/wood for energy is something they would never do. Chuubanite is natural resource in Vitubia, typically found in places associated with a chuuba's power. Just spitballing here but for the countries under your control, I suspect Dragoons would have it near the dragon mountains, and Syrenia would find deposits underwater by the coasts. Some of it would likely wash up on the shores in tiny amounts, like iron sand. You can think of it as a rare mineral if that makes it easier for you to wrap your head around? While I watch the girls casually, I don't know enough about them to offer suggestions for their status as deities. From what I do know these sound good, though. What type of love were you hoping for Elira to represent? We have three love deities at this point so that's probaby
important to hammer out. Vox is definitely eros. Uki could easily work as either philia or storge, so if you pick one for Elira I'll give Uki the other. There's double crossover in Vox's case with Fertility too, but the difference in gender will inherently make worship between them differ, so that's not as big a deal.

Regarding the boys, I gave a rundown of some of them last time so I won't repeat those. Of the ones remaining:
- Shu is God of Magic and Mathematics. Yaminions will insist to anyone who stops to listen that magic IS math.
- Sonny is the God of War and, surprisingly to many, Agriculture. Brothels are sacred institutions because Briskadets believe he's a whore (affectionate). I'm keeping that unless the Briskadet tells me she hates it, but she didn't bring it up last time so I assume it's fine.
- Fulgur is the God of Diplomacy and History. His other facet, Legatus, is God of Justice and Science.
- I think I forgot to mention it last time, but Uki is also the god of Divination.
- The gods of Noctyx are considered by many to be a family, with Fulgur as the father, Uki as the mother and the rest as their offspring.

Perhaps so, yeah. I think it does make sense if the Empire just sees Rosemi as one of the quieter gods with very little input to things that are ongoing. Just like in collabs.
The Empire sees Rosemi as just a Goddess of Nature. /rose/ (actual nation name still pending) knows Rosemi as a Goddess of Nature, Suffering, and Creativity. Say what you want, but Rosemi is still one of the most creative in NijiEN. I will hold my ground on that, as her detective stream holds a special place in my heart.

Relations wise it's all going to be a bit of a mess. Off the top of my head, we decided before that Nina and Mysta are twin gods, yes? Since Mystakes fucked off largely due to ideological difference and not liking how their god was viewed, perhaps some see him as a God of Misfortune and Calamity. Closer to Mystas, he'd probably be regarded more as a trickster god ruling over Fortune, Mischief and lost things. Vox and Fulgur are brothers, of course, as are the dragon sisters and hoeL brothers. Luca and Alban...I don't think the fanbase generally mentions them being brothers and they don't bring it up on stream either, so I'm ignoring their relation entirely. Partially this is beacuse trying to figure out how that works when Noctyx is a family makes my head hurt. Should Finana and Uki be considered cousins?

Ah, and Vox should probably also be god of theatre.

Most saplings know how to speak basic Hooman, specially those in the southern forests where you are. Youre welcome to try to learn the sapling language, but without Forest Sense, its just going to be caveman speak at best to you

>Perhaps they would show more interest if they realized they could have whole new trees with them.
May come as a surprise to Risuners, but yeah, the plant people that live in the forest do know how seeds work

>In exchange for nuts we want food
We would offer you some food even if you didnt give us nuts, we value sustaining all forms of life, specially guests, but we dont really have huge larders and stockpiles of food lying around to give away

>climbing trees and scavenging any fruit that can be found
This is your best option; many saplings would be happy to help you do this and show you around to different places where different food can be found

>test the freindliness of the natives of the land
Be friendly to the forest, and saplings will be nothing but friendly back. The first things the saplings would have warned you about though is the deep forest, the Elder trees, and the Ents/Elder saplings. If you need details on these, let me know (or read the /uuu/ lore)

Superhuman robot strength is often explained as robots having more mass than humans. Keep in mind robots also need more volatile power sources than humans do.

He not the only one who can play well at this game and despite the ego that most Pomudachis seem to have, he is not the top dog.

I was just about to ask if you're still and whether you wanted to anchor your document, and here you are! I got distracted by deity talk but I have a few things I wanted to add to your merfolk lore. Some mention should probably be made of their webbed hands and claws. Have you thought about their teeth? Do they have a typical carnivorous mammals fangs, or is it more akin to sharks/piranhas where they can lose and regrow their teeth all throughout their lives? Additionally, they would likely not have to actively use the Uki/Vox chuubanite. It would be an effect caused by living near to large deposits of these types of chuubanite, and thus having the magic radiation seep into their bodies over time. That's why I suggested they should nest near Stargard. They absorb lots of its energy due to living by it. Many fish travel long distances to spawn somewhere entirely different from where they live most of the time. Perhaps merfolk eggs require freshwater to spawn. Threfore, merfolk swim inland down the river cutting though Ninisani to their spawning ground near the Holy Kingdom. Their young are raised there until they're strong enough to make the long journey back to Stargard's waters, and this gives them enough time to absorb energy from the Vox chuubanite. The ability to shift to a more human form may have even been an adaptation due to the risk of low tides leaving merfolk stranded in shallow rivers! Perhaps the shapeshifting ability of a merperson gradually weakens as they grow older and that chuubanite leaves their bodies? Or perhaps they recognize the Vox chuubanite as important and those who swim inland to spawn will also collect some of it to bring back to Stargard.

You are not stronger than both the Dragoons and Pomudachi combined lol. Not only that but how would they even know being as isolated as they are? Do Rosebutas magically know where places are too? Look, maybe in your own lands you would win, but you arent taking the fight across the empire, far from your home and toppling Pomerlane at his peak. Rosebutas know nothing of siegecraft (why would they anyways?) to even take a city. I understand you are upset by this turn of events, but be real with me. Yes, I had very similar thoughts! This is why they're pretty strong even running on minimum energy, because some of that is simply the way they're built, so to speak. But for the most part I was basing their muscles off real research done on robotic "muscles," specifically ones made of micro bimorph coils. They become stronger when heated, so a cyborg using more strength requires both heat generation to the "muscle" and increased cooling to prevent heat damage to other parts. These things would both consume higher amounts of energy. Hence, my cyborgs' strength is now limited by chuubanite consumption, since I'm using chuubanite as batteries.

Of course we aren't. I'm not stupid. Do you really think I would just call a war right away? No. We will abide our time. If you decline us we will feign friendliness. We will attempt to appeal to you to appear more favorable. We will continue to ask now and again for your sect. If, at any point, you choose to accept... Then we remain friends. In fact, we may end up the strongest of friends.
Should you continue to decline, then upon your weakest moment we will strike. Pomerlane will not be at his peak forever and by association, neither will his empire. We will learn. We will observe and adapt to the technology of siegecraft and the rest of the world.
You requested me to be real? I am now being real. As a theocracy, it is plainly impossible for /rose/ to just ignore this. They will become a plant, cease their false worship, or die on a cross. Do not tempt the crusade.
Your entire empire rides on the shoulders of one man. One mortal man that you have built up to be the apex of your people. You have twenty, maybe thirty years. We can do this the easy way, or the most prolonged and painful way.

When it comes to other religions or gods, they do not care. Rosemi is a different story. It is their divine goal to have only plant life remain on this planet. Do you think it makes sense for a religion, with that being their big goal, to just let the direct opposition to that stay there and worship the same Goddess they believe in? Even if we don't factor in their divine goal, this is a separate faith built upon their same Goddess and they would likely be proclaiming their version of faith to be the right one. I know it's a nitpick but most early WW1 tanks did let gunfire through and let it hit the crew inside. Their armor was not good enough yet.

Compiled the discussion, will see if I can tidy it up a bit. Also, should it be anchored under /meat/ or crossthread? It's mentioned in the discussion, but I don't know if it's decided to be endemic to /meat/, or if it's also in Niji

Fair point, as long as they keep up the bookkeeping, separation should be fairly easy.
That reminds me of something else, though: /meat/ sometimes make use of chuubanite-enriched flesh to accelerate injury recovery: https://rentry.org/vtwbg-meatlore#chuubanite
Do you think infected flesh would/should cause issues when used this way?

I assume the meat used this way is not cooked. If infected flesh is used for it, it would stand to reason that whoever was healed using it would end up infected themselves. If care isn't taken to carefully keep track of the mushroom's propogation, it's entirely possible that what looks like completely normal meat could have dormant spores inside it, and the spores will become active again once the infected flesh has been integrated with a new host for them to germinate in.

My kind of sleep apnea happens because my brain forces me to stop breathing when I sleep. The sleep anxiety came from periods where I was called at or yelled at in the middle of the night. So my body absolutely rejects sleep. Which is killing me in the end.
