First of all, old IQ tests were a bunch of crap, and second of all, the higher your IQ. the more difficult it is to reliably differentiate between you and another high IQ person. Simply put, it's easy to tell a person with an IQ of 100 apart from a person with an IQ of 115, but super difficult when it's 160 and 175. Because of that most IQ test, both online and "paper" tests, are capped at either 145 or 160. So don't believe all the "That famous guy had an IQ of 200" crap

The reason the website corrects the result is that, based on that survey you mention, the creators see a bias in that higher IQ people are more likely to take an IQ test. I assume the raw score is therefore based on a mean IQ of test-takers = 100, and the corrected score is based on a mean IQ of the general population = 100.

They explain how the correction works in the results page: the uncorrected results are based on the averages of the people who take the test, while the corrected results are adjusted by the self-reported WAIS, ACT and SAT scores on the optional survey at the end. This is always an upward correction because people who don't like and are bad at test don't take them, though it might be exaggerated.
I'm not going to say an online IQ test it reliable because they aren't, but I honestly believe my results here (~2SD, ~1 uncorrected) better than my SAT score that put me in >99th percentile. That's way too high and I run into people who are intellectually intimidating all the time.

If you get to the end of the test they point out it's been compared to to the WAIS in at least a preprint and got an r=0.57. That's a moderately significant correlation. It's not a real IQ test but isn't bad at predicting it.

I should of read the instructions better for the word scramble part, I wasn't sure if each choice was a word scrambled, or if I had to combine the options to find enough letters to make words? I thought it was the second, but I couldn't figure out shit because I've always had shit spelling and hated word puzzles and scrabble. I thought spelling and word shit weren't part of IQ test.
