The audience is to blame for continuing to watch and incentivize whores who are blatantly phoning it in, and have been for the longest time.

This includes almost all of HoloEN except Kiara, Gura, Fauna and Irys. The rest are largely devoid of any passion for streaming and just play the 'how can i do the least work for the most pay' with varying degrees of cuntiness.

Feels like a weird trick question, because you'd normally think that "x" Vtuber doesn't have fun streaming because this other Vtuber streams a lot more, or engages with their audience in a different more meaningful way, And there'll definitely be days when a Vtuber will be on a mood or hint that they're 100% not having fun while streaming (Coco had admitted to doing that before) but that shouldn't dictate that they completely hate the entire idea of having to stream constantly, or that they don't like their audience for whatever reason (Or at least as long as the audience isn't a actively bullying the streamer like a few certain Apex players), so it just falls into whatever people want to believe based on the time they spend watching their fav streamers.

OP here. To be clear, it's the audience that "thinks" they are having fun watching the stream. For example, Amelia's streams are veiled under the shroud of creativity, which leads the audience to think they are enjoying an otherwise boring stream. Example: the trampoline stream; once you take away the VR and the trampoline, you realize you have, in fact, been tricked into thinking you enjoyed a boring zatsudan stream. The king has no clothes.

What you're digging at is that there is a core shallowness to the potential of vtuber content generally. If the model can't animate/emote it that's a limit. If the company doesn't want you to do it that's a limit. Hololive has both those things in spades. So basically, if what they do appeals to you as a niche, you have a cornucopia of entertainment. If it wasn't quite accurately targeted however then you will never be satisfied.

Thing is between niji/small corpos and indies, I really do not see much in those that is so enticing, whatsover. I've loved the shit out of moe SoL/comedy/maybe light-yuri anime since like 2007 and Holo feels like a bit of that all the time. Guess what, there are maybe 0-2 of those kinds of shows per anime season if you're lucky, so like 20-40 minutes a week of entertainment, vs several if not dozens of hours a week of entertainment from girls pantomiming these behaviors as the chubba vtubbers week by week. In that context it makes total sense why vtubers took such a prominent angle in the 2D otaku market, the sheer volume of content makes them pretty hard to ignore. Sooner or later, you'll be really bored one season of anime or after whaling in your gacha again and stumble across some vtuber clips and go "ok, that IS kinda cute" and go on from there.

Ame has her charms. She's not funny (as 99% of women in general) or witty, and her social skills while acceptable are definitely lacking - especially during collabs - but somehow she's still amusing. Well, at least for me and that's all that matters. I have this feeling she won't stick around for long, so I try to enjoy her as much as I can right now

I agree but I have to ask, by Holo you meant HoloJP right? HoloEN really lacks that SoL feel. Member interactions are one of the keys to it and Myth doesn't fucking interact, there's no "gen" feel. Council collabs (+Gura) can be funny but they don't feel like SoL at all, they feel like regular Western Twitch streamers collabs. Respect to those who try branching out and collabing outside of EN (Kiara, Ina, IRyS, Bae) but that's not enough.
One more thing that makes Holo SoL-style is chuubas talking about their everyday experiences, I mean just mundane things like how their day went, how they interacted with other Holomems, their dancing and singing lessons, their meals, minor life happenings like home renovations or catching colds etc. Of course HoloEN does it too but they're just a bit more distant than JPs and strangely that small bit of distance kills SoL feel.
And last thing, I think idol stuff and things like celebrating milestones hold the whole atmosphere together. Say like a SoL anime where it's CGDCT 85% of the time but 15% of the time it's working towards some big goal like reviving a club or something and it makes the whole experience more engaging. JP Holos have something like this with their 3D lives and milestone streams where you can have an emotional moment and feel proud for your oshi for coming this far. ENs lack these special moments too unfortunately because most of them aren't interested in singing stuff. Sure they want to stand on the same scene as their senpais and all that, they all say it and I think it's genuine, but most don't care enough to actively practice for something other than Holofes.
