The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Well, let's start with Niji being insanely popular in Japan for starters. Her debut was solo and not cut across 4 or 5 different gen members, so all the attention was on her, and she was a solo debut for a Niji milestone so even more attention. Aside from her talent and personality, her streams are only about an hour too, so to watch her isn't a big time commitment like some other chuubas might be where you'd have to sit down for 2 or 3 hours to watch. havent kept up with a lot of these new debuts and shit and just clicked a clip and i can already see the appeal. shes genuinely playing a character with a half decent desuwa gimmick that is easy to market and over all just sounds much more professional and kept in kayfabe. reminds me a bit of debut kronii where the voice is incredibly appealing and viewers have a lot of fun interacting with the kayfabe and trying to break it down with chat interactions

unfortunately the thing with kayfabes is that it only really works particularly well with corpo debuts because they can actually benefit from a hype period where they maintain it and slowly breaks down. other wise you have to play a permanent character like cimrai or kabhaal and thats your main appeal

i'm a live 2d artist and rigger. small-time stuff but it's money and it's fun! i'm working on a commission right now and i just HAVE to get this off my chest.
the person I'm working for is a fucking idiot. probably a good person, but god damn are they fucking DENSE. their original model they sent as reference was so ugly. but thats why they're coming to me im an artist i can make what they're envisioning a real quality product. i gave constant updates on the progress, CONSTANTLY mentioned to let me know if they wanted any changes as early in the progress as possible. they gave an okay on the sketch. an okay on the lineart. an okay on the coloring. an okay on all the tiny details i tried my best to make fucking presentable. finally i send the finished art and THEN is when they decide that it's "missing something" and I slowly piece by piece change shit until it eventually looks like the shitty original design again.

i stated MULTIPLE times after every suggestion to let me know if they don't like something and that it would be okay and i wouldnt be mad. theyres SUPPOSED to be back and fourth during a commission but if you dont say anything its going to make it harder for me in the future. of course they dont listen and wait until the end.

the worst part is they werent an ass about it. they were an idiot, and clearly super indecisive, but not rude or anything but it still manages to piss me off so much. to work on something for months and then to not be satisfied with the work done feels fucking horrible. theyre satisfied, theyre happy, which is GOOD but like GOD its such a bad design and i couldve made it so much BETTER if they just told me what they wanted when i fucking asked in the beginning.

Yes, she was a nobody until she became a vtuber. Her "something wrong" was not having a target audience. That's why a lot of people who struggled suddenly did well when swapping to vtuber content. With a chuuba it's not as much of an issue with animations as it is love capture. Most of those gloves aren't capturing millimeter precise movement which is what a lot of fingering is. you'd be getting what'd basically amount to a general hand position with finger twitching most of the time and you can do that with cheaper tech, not to mention the difficulty of playing with the gloves on to begin with. You are right about other instruments being easier for mocsp though

The reality is most people who get into streaming whether it's irl or vtubing do t know where to begin and get overwhelmed with all the numbers they see others have and fancy models, art, etc but don't think of what goes into getting all that and think they just have to hit Live and be cute.

I see people with a hundred viewers and their chat is still slow.
That's my biggest fear. Not to have a low viewer count but to have so low engagement that people don't even bother talking to you or each other.
