His character designs are actually pretty it's just that they can't be adapted 1:1 for anime or vtubers. If they wanted to use redjuice's design they should have gotten an additional artist to "simplify" it for vtuber rigging in different art style just like Guilty Crown anime team did. Of course, it would have been better to choose an artist whose design could be easily adapted in Live2D without those extra steps.
Even after debut seeing what fuckery they had committed, they could have easily hired another artist to rework the design in a different art style but chose not to.
They could have ditched IRyS 2D altogether and made her into another Miko (3D only) and the person working on her 3D would have properly modified her design to be more in line with other Holos. Then Cover could have shat out an excuse to redjuice or any of his fans "that's what needed to be done to have IRyS in 3D" and everyone would have been happy including IRyS herself.
Finally, it makes no sense to have a VSinger in 2D to begin with. If her role is to sing then obviously 3D concerts and even live 3D studio karaoke would have been great for her career. Instead she has to appear as fucking cardboard in her collabs with senpai. As a vsinger she may be under different contract but still treating her like shit is unacceptable.
