You don't have to be a unicorn to stop giving money to someone who talks about their bf a lot, a lot of people don't mind if it's kept in the background but this is too much for them. Also, hearing about how successful and happy they are makes saviourfags or just anyone who wants to feel like their donations make a positive impact more likely to stop their support.
That said, it's a spectrum and some of the more diehard supporters surely lean strongly to the unicorn side.
