>watch JP or EN vtuber
>feel good inside

>watch vtuber in my native language
>cringe myself into oblivion after 20 seconds of watching

Does this happen to anyone else? I don't really understand why, they aren't even bad I just cringe out of habit idk why

I remember squeezing my bottle so hard because the cringe from kobo streams is way too much for me, i don't feel that from her genmates since they don't really use local jokes and languages much.

Maybe you've developed a different sense of what's cringe or unappealing for your second language than you did for your first? I'd imagine that the differences in vocabulary, grammar, and cultural context could cause something like that.

Understanding entertainment in another language adds an extra layer of mystique. It tricks your brain into thinking its better and/or more highbrow than it really is. Nothing wrong with enjoying it, though.

i get that a lot, but i feel like it's more because most of the native english speaking vtubers are inherently massively cringe in nature

Can relate. There are some EN chuubas that make me cringe as well, but my native language chuubas, oh god. Most of them have the same fucking voice timbre, it probably sounds pleasant for most people and most of these chuubas have nice and clear pronunciation as well but I just can't. They either sound like a popular chick reading out some heartfelt shit at a school event or some cosplayer in a shitty comedy skit, I've been to a few cons and ALL cosplayers participating in these skits sound exactly the same.
If you look up someone like Sati Akura you'll get the idea. She does a good job making song lyrics translations and she's fine as a singer but voice types like her filter me hard.
