not necessarily. the voctail works more or less by combining texture and scent to control flavor. all you need is a chuuba that can change it's texture such as an octopus, and then give them the ability to release pheromones with all the basic flavors, like salty, savory, sweet, sour, bitter, etc. and then you have a meat that can mimic the taste of anything. of course it wouldn't be perfect, and there might be some difficulties in keeping the texture after being cooked, but you could definitely make something that comes close to your expectations.

I hate Avery Morrow so much it is unreal. That said I cannot think of a guro subculture that is not like that, gurochan was like that and apparently the new iteration is even more like that. Yeah, yukkuri are so interesting especially given how well integrated the lore is for something that is written collectively. Grafting, dual birth methods, paste injection/extraction, it all fits so well without there being a single authoritative controller and simyukkuri implements them in cool ways even if it is extremely broken and unfinished.

Sorta unrelated, but I've never been able to stand that niconico commentary voice. I'd prefer no vocals to that, and finding real voices for commentary was way more difficult back in the day. The "death reset" is part of her chuuba lore, she explains it on her homepage. Kyusai committed suicide but God decided to grant her the power to return back to Earth on a new body every time she dies, recovering from previous injuries.
