I never understood what the appeal of alcohol was. Like I understand the appeal of social drinking or a glass of wine at dinner. I mean I don't understand how drinking alcohol for the sake of it alone, and posting about it online got popular or why. On other boards and threads I have seen trips almost revel in posting about how they're drinking (at their pc) again. I never understood it, it's stupid, and they will actually become alcoholic and not be able to stop. What is cool about that?

I think the difference is Lamy is a low tolerance east asian who gets drunk pretty fast and has lighthearted fun at worst. Mori is your typical genetically inclined alcoholic who needs to keep upping the amount she drinks over time in order to get drunk at all. So it becomes just a joyless addiction for Mori where she doesn't want to show up for many streams or events anymore without making sure she is good and drunk beforehand.

Drinking at the computer is unfortunately pretty fun.
I quit smoking weed in December after having been a huge stoner for nearly ten years, and I certainly drink more than I used to now. I used to never drink alone, but since quitting THC I began to drink on the weekends, and now I've been drinking two or three days out of the week. I'm trying to wind down sooner rather than later.
My parents are alcoholics; they go through a case of light beer together (ew) just about every day. It might be hereditary or it might just be because I was raised by alcoholics, but I seem to be a polyaddict. I just like substances too much.

This will sound like bullshit, but I replaced my weed and alcohol use with exercise and dieting. But objectively was addicted to it in sadly a similar way I have always been attracted to "Feeling Good". It wasn't the endorphins or runners high everyone talks about, it was the feeling of stepping on the scale and seeing the numbers go down.

I was obsessed with every pound, I did Keto, intermittent fasting, I joined a jogging group, and turned my life around... but in the evenings I was forcing myself to throw up when I ate too much... But I looked good, and I was addicted to it. I was working out every day until my muscles were jelly, I was jogging 50KM a week. I was looking good, I was feeling good, but I was still for all intents addicted to it.

I was losing 10 pounds a month at least, and as weird as this sounds, I would stand in front of the Mirror like Dennis from Always sunny and just look at my new body. I was obsessed, but felt attractive for the first time ever, it was strange, I had a new found confidence. By the end I went from 260 pounds down to 160. Went from a size 40 pant to size 32, it was amazing, as long as I didn't mention the daily purges. (fun fact, after a year of puking, you can puke on command, at least I can)

Sadly when Covid hit, I lost my job and things went pretty badly for me. I started smoking weed again daily and gained back 50 pounds since then. Ever since April I've been sober again and trying to get my shit together but the purging is back... I eat to much and feel guilty and run for the toilet... Man, it's rough. But I've lost 10 pounds... Here we go again

So, maybe take up self improvement

I've been really consistent with body weight exercise and intermittent fasting up until the latter half of last month when my drinking really started to ramp up. When I see a drunk stumbling around the hallways and then hear them puking their guts out in the morning, I just think, "oh to have it so easy". The three or four times in the past fifteen years I gave in to drinking in a moment of weakness, I immediately realize I should be doing this everyday and while the quality of my life overall would go down, the amount of happiness I'd feel would go up. It's no different from drugs generally in that sense. But when I'm sober I just choose not to reengage.

The first time I quit after smoking ten years, the first 2 months were hell, the disassociation, the constant anxiety, the sweats, and the biggest is the insomnia.

Every day I would keep a journal, at first I used it to time my use as I weened myself. I have pages and pages of schedules like "6PM 0.3g" "9PM 0.3g" 12AM 0.3g" and then how I was feeling, some days are just insane scribbles of suicidal ideation, some days are sad reasons to keep trying, but some days are genuine happiness and feelings of accomplishment from doing something about it finally.

And slowly my journal became less about my suffering and more about how I was getting better by the day. Sleep was finally back but I had extreme lucid dreams where I couldn't distinguish them from reality until I woke up. It was very intense. But the biggest thing was my anxiety was toned down a huge amount, so much was caused by my smoking.

And from that point there are many ups and downs, but quitting has never been as hellish as those few months were. I've relapsed a few times in the years since then, but I've gotten sober quicker and the withdrawal is easier every time. Addiction is something I'm probably always going to have to watch out for but I'm getting better and better at it.

Alcoholic here. Just so you know, alcoholism isn't how much you can physically drink but the psychological need to drink. Here are some examples of my alcoholism:
- Getting mad at friends who said they'd give me a ride home but staying so late that the stores have to legally stop selling alcohol (NY)
-Looking at 4 beers and thinking 'Wait, I need a few more so I don't run out'
-Plain ol' getting hammered
-Worried that I won't get a 'feel good' buzz, so I drunk more
-'Rewarding' myself for getting through another week of work
-Taking nips from a bottle as long as I don't get drunk
-Confessing to my parents that I'm an alcoholic then that night going out and buying beer

I think all my dieting and working out at the gym partly is so I can drink on the weekends. Anyways alcoholics don't really care about taste. At my worst I used to drink Milwaukee's Best and Natty Ice, two piss water beers but they were cheap and they got you drunk. As an alcoholic you don't care about the taste, the only thing you care about is the Alcohol % number on the bottle. Since Mori buys cheap wine you know she's not drinking it for the taste and if she's drinking lean, well lean is just another cocktail if you think about it and cocktails are a fast way to get wasted. Anyways I think Mori is an alcoholic and it's not like we can turn a switch on or off inside ourselves, quitting drinking is a very hard thing to do.

Nobody needs a pretend alcoholic's perspective. Not every addiction gets a new word coined to describe them but at the core they are all the same shit.

He says alcoholism is the psychological need to drink, that is just addiction. But alcohol is unique from other addictions in that it has a class of people for whom it is a physiological need to drink. >an alcoholic is a person is his addicted to alcohol
Everyone knows this is the case for an alcoholic but it is oversimplified and not even necessarily true. The point for an alcoholic is always the alcohol so if they quit drinking, they don't typically take up another addiction. By contrast, the point of an addict is the addiction. Thus, an addict may be addicted to alcohol and has all the symptoms of an alcoholic but quitting drinking typically just results in changing addicitons, be it exercise, video games or sex/porn.

I said quitting is hard which is true - quitting any addiction is hard - but I never said it was special to alcoholics. It was over the bit where people said Connor heavily implied he didn't think Holos were talented and they could be massive hacks and lie because of the name brand, then (probably former now) deadbeats brought it up to Mori where she then said that Connor apologized to everyone about it (I think she said "personally" or something that VERY heavily implied he'd done so individually), then when kfp casually asked Kiara about that she'd said that she wasn't in contact with any members of Trash Taste, basically making it look like Mori was a liar. Deadbeats typically defend it saying she'd never completely said he'd apologized to all of them individually and that she was just saying he'd said some kind of blanket apology when people misunderstood, and everyone else more or less says she purposefully phrased it in a way that made Connor look better. Just another incident on a long list, really.

Old World class systems are based on your ancestry while New World class systems are based on how much money you have. The idea that your parents were of a lower class only matters in the Old World because no matter how much money you ever make in life, there's an entire class of people who will look down on you even if you have more than them. But in the New World you can change classes, and as she is now upper class, whatever she came from is completely irrelevant (even if we pretend it was literal poverty like some famous American billionaires claim). It doesn't build any character or identity because nobody thinks she's whatever she came from. All those people who were a class above her growing up are now beneath her and if/when she squanders all that money again she'll be lower class and nobody will care that she ever had any money.

Yeah but old world is also based on other things than ancestry now. New money was more of a thing in the Victorian era, unless we're talking about peerage and upper class today. A difference seems to be how middle is defined with it being more like a median in the new world and a mean in the old world meaning richfags pull the bar up higher and leave a larger poorfag class. Still it's mainly about how you identify and how people identify you, and she identifies with rap culture and a street mythos, even if it's questionable.
