What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

i love you /asp/friends

What would you want, asp, from a group? Let's say a couple of aspies get together and manage to get some traction.

What would you hope they provide? What do you think they *would* provide?

Fully paid models are obviously out of reach unless you're going to make the corp their money back.

So raids into each other? Shared collabs around channels to get numbers up? Clippers/editors (how'd they be paid)?

What would you want, and what would you sacrifice? Not in a weird way, but in a "would you let them take control of your twitch payouts?", or "clover finds the editor, and gets group rates, you pay"?

>What would you hope they provide?
They can't provide anything but minor assistance, there's quite literally nothing Clover can provide that can't be done as an individual, at best it's just another "friend group" discord. There is no "corp", there is no "company". Being realistic about it, it's a group made up of and "organized" by people who have no clue what they're doing.

I like to draw and people tell me I am apparently decent enough

I'd say for an "ideal group" I would have each member learn a skill they are interested with, so they later can contribute to the network ?

As a drawfag, I would illustrate in shitty sketched Animatics/short comics the interaction of a hypothetical group of "allies".

A shared "realtime built lore" where each person collabs or at least interact with each other, and relatioship charts get created with sub-quests or goals like a TTRP.

An experience like Hololive Minecrafts or Nijisanji Tournaments that spawn a lot of fanart from viewers out of enjoyment.

Maybe can be done with a shared Google Document where the members of the group add their :
- Motive and Goals for VTubing
- Personal Lore
- After a collab, a throwaway voiceline opinion about each other

I'd like it if the group had skills to help each other out. Not necessarily things like giving each other whole illustrations for free and whatnot, but say, I can help with video editing, have fancy pants software etc. Maybe someone else knows how to do really cool things with OBS. Another with a graphic design background can give feedback etc. Basically contributing something beyond just views.

I would say providing a group banter chemistry is more than enough, having a colorful cast is the main draw of any vtuber group. I'd reckon since aspies has more or less the same humor and self awareness being in 4chan and everything, shit would be fun to watch as a viewer.
Problem is the level of energy since the aspies I've watched are all mild mannered. Viewers want a dash of chaos and insanity like niji group collabs, eg. like a zoo

>>23532062
This sounds like a nice idea! Everyone being able to just do some little contributions would be really nice, especially if it's things that can actually be used during streams.
Sharing lore is possibly the only concern, because nobody started their designs this way, so you'd have a space-faring bodysuit cat, a witch's familiar, a cowboy, and a self-harming teenager.
Together they solve crime.
>>23533090
It's very useful to have a group to bounce ideas off of! I've done some video editing before, but only minimal, and (this sounds shit) I know how to use google, which means I can often find guides on cool shit other people do.
The amount of chuubas in group discords who post stuff like "How do I get alerts when someone follows?" makes me think actually being able to use the internet must be a skill they lack.
>>23533524
So you think it would need to be a lot of interaction, both in stream and in media? I think Chuchubu are a good model for this - Takako and KK have great chemistry, even when it's just in each other's chat!

Thanks, it's not exactly sharing lore together so the VTubers are already related before (like HoloX or Luxiem who share or have interrelated plot in their background lore before they debuted)

The setting I have in mind that can work might be like this ?
>"After a certain event (pandemic), the original world of only humans was flooded with "fantastical creatures"
>Alas, becoming anime characters :
each person can become anything they want ! (Appearance and superpower wise)
>But many individuals want to rise above others ... currently, it's quite fragmented ... everyone creates their own world without connecting to other people
Even if they started or aspire to stream for this very reason"

My dream was to make an animatic or manga of people "working together", like a realtime building anime season or telenovela LUL

For facilitating collabing, I also wanted to learn making games with Godot and making Co-op games ... but I haven't even started learning how to even code the basics, as I'm procrastinating on my own VTuber career LUL

So, Uncle Anon here with some advice on what to do for an affiliate celebration!

There's four ways you can do your celebration
1 - Normal stream - literally nothing is different. Don't make mention of it.
2 - Extended stream - do a playthrough of a (short-ish, 10~15) game. So Portal, Half-Life, Getting Over It. Do the long stream until it's done.
3 - Chat plays stream - do a series of games with chat. Phasmo, What the Dub, Jackbox, Gartic, CaH, etc. You play with the viewers
4 - Marathon stream - play until you hit [x followers/10 subscribers/founders], etc.

As a final option, you can do a 'debut' style stream, where you walk through your lore, likes, dislikes, expressions, etc. That works for corpos, and your affiliate delebration is a decent reason to do some lore drop, but don't wallow in it for an hour or two - it's not like the majority of your viewers will really care about it.

Personally, I would plan for a Extended Stream, play through a favourite game, with a mini-lore drop mid-way through at peak viewership.

twitter is doing better, it's not just "now live", "now ended" tweets, which is good.
Watched some of your latest VOD, at the 35 minute mark... There's "I don't remember because...", then 40 seconds of silence, "I think... Here", 15 seconds of silence, "hmmmm"
you need to be filling this silence. It's dull. Never mind how you speak, you need to actively make sure that there is always something going on.
I have no idea what you're doing, what you have been doing, or any plans, or anything about the stream. just that you're playing minecraft, and it looks like you're paddling.
I watched 60 seconds, and literally all I got from it was "this guy has a vaguely boring voice and doesn't finish sentences".

I did the same at the 1 hour mark
"like, it's dependant on how I'm feeling, which is pretty good. Ummm.... let's see here"
seven seconds silence
"umm, hard to see in the dark"
four second silence
"I think maybe"
"uhhhh"
"I think we're going to have to explore at night"
"let's see"
"Actually"
"Let me actually check my screenshot"

This is so incredibly boring. Here's an example of what we could be fitting in (I don't play minecraft, so made shit up to fit).

>"Let's see here, what I want is to explore and find somewhere to build a diamond mine, which means we need a large island. Our current one is too big though, so let's hop into zoom mode and scan the horizon. It's a bit challenging to see, because it's dark. Maybe I should check the map co-ordinates, hold on one second chat. Whilst I'm doing that - Do you tend to explore MC at night, chat, or do you hole up and hide?
>"Right, found our island, we need to head west. Let's GOOOOOO"

Did you collect gemstones as a kid? Are you a fan of crystals with modern witchcraft or whatever? Did you dig holes in the garden? An uncle who's a miner?

Add some stories. Fill in the holes in the conversation. Talk about the next steps in your plan, what you need, and then lurch sideways into anecdotes.
Go and watch "Mock the Week", where comedians get a random topic, and have to talk about it until they make the judge laugh. Watch how they segue between topics.
In fact, any stand-up comedian panel show can be great for this - they don't leave much silence.

NTA, but thank you for the tips! This is something I personally have been struggling with as well.
Personally, my approach has just been to play more interesting games. Games with a lot of dialogue, or prompts to talk about. I still struggle to fill those silent gaps, but I'm getting better with practice, and hopefully with enough of that practice I'll be able to fill dead air even in dead games.

Keep in mind the successful blockgame streams are mostly collabs. Every time someone praises a blockgame stream, it's because Gura did something zany with Mumei or her house or some shit. And the purely solo streams only succeed if you're already high-level at zatsudan, the blockgame is just eye candy. If you're already "boring" and just playing solo it's going to make for a boring watch.

>> No.23539818

>>23539563
>play more interesting games.
That can definitely help, but you need to be able and willing to fill in the gaps in silence. Basically running a string of narrative.

>Games with a lot of dialogue
I'd argue these are actually bad - you basically have to shut up during these segments, which means you're not doing any input, unless you can time your speaking between NPC lines.

>or prompts to talk about
This is what you need. Link the action on screen, however tangentially, to your stories and anecdotes. Link back to chat semi-frequently ("so tell me about YOUR favourite gemstone, chat!"), so that they have input; but if you're silent, then there needs to be a reason.
Minecraft is not, by itself, a good enough reason.

I have stopped playing games on stream before, because I can't keep up with the game, and chat, and talking, all at the same time. I missed three people saying hello in chat, so that game has since been uninstalled, to avoid it.

A room inside a room is not as stupid as it sounds, but... you might as well use plasterboards wall instead of tarps. And stuff it with rockwool.
Honestly I have my doubts. Just having pic related won't actually soundproof your room, it will just reduce the reverberation. It's only going to improve the acoustics.
You're renting, right? That's why you can't make it a permanent structure?

That's what i'm afraid of, i have tried to find some resources on how it works in terms of sound absorption i think depending on the foam used it can also trap the sound inside, but i'm not sure if that applies to a flimsy construction like that without real walls.

i thought about plasterboards or just full wood, but the problem is i can't easily move it and even if i could its hard to use the space otherwise. if its too unflexible it might piss me off because this is my only room and living space.

I do live on rent so thats the biggest issue. The option with the fan is a possibility, but i still have a ton of reverb in my voice and i think this construction is still gonna be cheaper than soundproofing large parts of my room.

Alright, I had a shower and it gave me some thoughts.
There are thick, heavy, sound-proof curtains out there. You could drape them around your cage.
I remember reading articles about them when I used to live in a noisy neighborhood. (or use blankets on all sides like >>23548655 said, I wonder if thrift stores sell used blankets... could be cheap)
I would try that instead of the tarp+foam combination because my experience with tarps is that they're crinkly as fuck and would be noisier than a furry convention if there's airflow.
Additionally you could look into making your cage out of metal studs (pic related) which could be lighter and cheaper than wood.

You could try PVC piping, with 'heavy' curtains around to deaden the sound?
It should all be able to be slotted together, possibly without glue, and it should be cheaper and lighter than wood, as well as easier to dismantle.

As another alternative, see if the landlord would let you put in ceiling hooks, and hang curtains from them?

I'll try to list all the stuff that's being said here and adding my own research to see what could possibly work. Even if this is gonna fail i'm gonna probably have a lot of fun with it on the weekend. If i wasn't a chuuba i'd stream it lmao.

1. Office Dividers
Not a bad idea to be honest, i've actually worked in customer support so i'm familiar with these and the walls are pretty neat and i wont need to do much tinkering, it might take a while until i can find a good offer though. If they don't do enough i could at least stick more foam on them and not worry about them falling over because they are heavy as fuck.
2. PVC Pipe solution
Am i underestimating the power of PVC Pipes? I feel like they are gonna be crushed if i use them for more than just a vertical recording booth (I want my pc desk to fit in there afterall (its 160cm so it roughly needs to be that squared), especially if put more than 1 layer of moving blankets over them. But if i can't really stop sound from getting outside anyways, this is the best solution i believe (cheapest too).
3. Ceiling Hooks
oof, that sounds dangerous. I'm not quite sure how robust my ceiling is, it seems to be decent concrete, but for single blankets that should be fine if i want to hang more though it might rip them off. Probably unwarranted though unless i attack like 4 layers of moving blankets onto 2 hooks or something like that. This solution sounds pretty elegant and it let's me easily just take off the things if i want to get it out of the way.
4. Steel Cage Match
That's a cute outfit, did your husband make it for you?

So overall i believe the wood approach might be a little overkill, especially because it's gonna take up 1/4th of my room. My initial thought was it would be rigid enough for acoustic foam, but with how popular blankets are, they might just do the trick and i can combine the two if i wanted to since the foam itself probably isn't that heavy. The office divider method is good, but takes careful searching for a good offer. I hate doing that, also i'd have to add more than just the dividers because they are at most gonna be like 120cm/140cm in height and that isn't even really enough to put a blanket over it, really depends on what i can find. The PVC Pipe version could work, but i don't trust those, someone shill me on how strong these actually are and i'll believe you. Might still be kind of a lot of work for something i can get cheaper.

I think i'm most gravitating towards ceiling hooks, they are almost infinitely scaleable with how thick i can make the walls and it's gonna be easy to live with than with a fukken cage in the middle of my room. The landlord might not approve but i've been living in this place for so long it has to be renovated anyways if i ever move out (he has to pay for it, yes we have renter rights here in germany) and as long as the entire ceiling doesn't come down i should be ok with putting a couple holes in it.

So who wants to collab with me in the babicage, just imagine the boysmell.

I've commissioned an actual model which is in the works now and I'm looking to fix up my setup since I'm using a Blue Yeti on a $10 mic arm held together with superglue.

Some things I'm aware of that I think I should change are my lack of socials (I barely use Twitter or Insta), dogwater audio balancing, inconsistent schedule, and I often fiddle with stream stuff while I'm live.

I was hoping I could get some advice from you guys? Would be much appreciated!

Us /asp/ies are very supportive of each other. Revealing yourself just opens yourself up to raids (fast track to affiliate) and advice from people who struggled in the same way you might be.
As long as you aren't making your stream self posts "no fags allowed" or something, it would be hard to cancel you simply by association. So long as you play your cards right, you can't really get cancelled just by posting asking for help.
The trolling will happen regardless of /asp/ status, if you are consistent and maintain any growth. It's just part of being a content creator.

Good points. I might gradually ease into it like yourself, make sure people are on board with who I am before I delve into that kind of stuff. Thanks anon.

reads like a girl to me. first two could simply indicate a weak-willed man, but fortune-telling has a much, much bigger female following than male.

It's much better but I'm still not sure why you have a giant bow on your forehead. What is it tying together? It's not a headband, it's not a hairtie, it's just a random bow pasted on your forehead.
There's something uncanny about the size of the head and body, but I can't pinpoint it.

Funny how you have so many schizos going after your head accessories. Also funny how you don't give a flying fuck and just roll with your ideas anyways. Godspeed.

The fortune-telling thing is effeminate as fuck. It's a good gimmick tho, so if you know how to use it you might have lots of female fans interested on it.

Oh...Well I mean isn’t that the point of these threads? To help guide people who are unsure and looking for opinions and criticism?
>>23569153
I guess it’s something I’ll have to keep in mind. The idea of specifically appealing to females is certainly not what I had in mind but it’s an interesting thought.

Thanks for the help friends. I might do some thinking, and hopefully the next time I post here, it’s to introduce myself formally and show off my design.
