I worked on translating Shukkou, keep in mind I am no translator this could use much better adaptation but at least I feel it passes a good idea of the feel of the song.

I don't know, man. Seems like you're trying too hard to look into things to have a hot take, and ended up missing the obvious. She's been talking about how much she's been doing her reps, just in the MV teaser reveal someone did the usual "our captain can't move like that lol" joke and she kind of took it personally. She didn't seem offended, but she was playfully saying "you don't even know, I've been working hard on this".
And in this concert she's practically yelling it, she's begging you to witness the fruits of her labor. The Suspect choreography is a direct improvement on the basis of the Kuro-obi version, some of the same moves, but everything made more complex and layered, and then in Ahoy you just have the most blatant example, webm related.
Her usual dance routine of the "宝鐘海賊団!" part that consists of the iconic key poses of her introduction + her just as iconic "idol step" that looks like ice skating, which has been a staple of live Ahoy performances since Beyond the Stage. This performance was the first time since 2nd fes that the idol step part of that bit was an actual idol step. She didn't go for the joke moves that actually suit the song even better, it's a funny song made for people to have fun and laugh, but she wasn't having any of that shit. She wants you to see how much she's improved, and how hard she worked to overcome her limitations. And she wants you to praise her. But instead, here you are, being a retard.
Why are you like this? Just enjoy. It's awesome how far we came from having literally no choreography whatsoever when the song was revealed to her altering specific bits of it to make a statement. She's got to be the best pirate I've ever seen.

I kinda disliked suspects choreography. She wasn't lazy at all, and probably practiced her ass off for it, but it felt like she was a old lady trying to hard to be sexy. (which is the point I suppose?) But also some of the moves looked weird and distorted her tiny model, and probably would've looked better on someone with say, Mio's proportions.

I like this guide. I suggest you spend a considerable amount of time reasesrching the topic "how the fuck do I go about learning a language to fluency". Most people do it wrong and spend years before they can read simple manga. Language teaching has a long standing tradition of being shit. They'll sit you and make you memorize a random list of verbs, or declinations. Silly shit.
So, do a lot of reaserch, apply critical thinking, then profit. Also in the first 2 months or so allow yourself to experiment and find what is most cobfortable/engaging/effective for you, but then just try to stick to it.

I don't know. It took me that long, and while I'm doing a lot i don't think it's 8 hours a day. I usually spend like 30/40mins in anki, and 1h reading. I watch a lot of raw jap media (mainly streams), but not really focusing on it. And i'm pretty shit at focusing.
I started back in september and am now reading komisan as tadoku. And its super understandable. Some words I dont know, some lines I won't get, but overall I can enjoy the content and get a lot of the humor. That's huge, being able to read manga written in fucking runes and getting a laugh out of it. If someone told me "hey kanji is actually really not that hard at all" sooner I would have learned the language earlier.
All of that being said, I don't really have anyone to compare to. I am reasonably smart, but not autistically smart. And I'm a bilingual which I suppose is advantageous too.

I can imagine that happening. As I said I think being a bilingual already really helps, not because any of my 2 languages have anything in common with japanese, but because I have my prior experience guiding me. I learned english by playing games, watching shit and reading the internet. Language was always a tool, and never an end goal. So I am trying to replicate that. Of course there're lots of works that i'm saving for latter, because I know i'll enjoy them more and learn more from them in a couple months.

In komisan there's this chick that's super M and acts like komi's dog, and whenever she speaks the furigana next to 私 reads いぬ. Isn't that shit absolutely beautiful? I really like the way japanese is written a lot.

Yeah, playing with kanji meanings and sounds is commonplace in the japanese language, this practice is called 当て字, for example I have no idea how to read that 古代長耳族 of yours but just glancing my eyes I can see its meaning, and then the author puts high elf in katakana and if you are familiar with any medieval setting this "ancient race of long ears" makes perfect sense, you will find endless examples like you just put. We really lose a lot of flavor text when reading translations. what I would recommend is literally go through everything she says word by word, line by line and make sure you put the time in to learn and understand every little bit. Even if you start off knowing nothing, eventually you get to a point where you understand everything already because you've encountered it and learned it before. I think it is a valid strategy, but it isn't necessarily for everyone, can be a sure way to burn out. Not every little word matters or is helpful for your learning really, specially at the beginner stage. Can you learn by continually watching the same anime episode 50 times? Sure. I wouldn't mind it at all, I'm interested in seeing what would come out from that, but also can't say it's something I yearn for. I think she strikes a wonderful balance with keeping with the themes but actually explore different ideas and her personal feelings using the imagery of the pirate character. Unison is entirely about her need for validation, but on the surface it's a song about four people on a boat deciding who's captain and fixing holes. It works very well, and I don't see the window dressing as a limitation at all. It would be a different matter if the composition itself also leaned too hard into sea chanties and the like, but it's definitely not the case for Unison.
And while Ahoy and Shukkou both do lean more into that aesthetic with the sound, Ahoy flirts with pirate folk while Shukkou has more of an "epic" sound, it's really cool. I respect how she can stick to the theme while still exploring different ideas. I respect that Shukkou's lyrics wasn't a repeat of Ahoy's "join my crew, it's fun as heck", but instead "things may not be as bright anymore, but don't give up on fighting for happiness". It really ties to her situation and how she's been struggling since pretty much Unison, actually. But also, perhaps inadvertently, I feel like it correlates with the vtuber industry as a whole, how it's been long enough for it to lose its novelty, and be carried by the overwhelming excitement and positivity, but regardless, it's still better than it was before, and worth fighting for. Also works with Hololive specifically, and how ups and downs seemed to be more frequent since Coco's departure, but that's probably just reading too much into it.
